Has one genius here not realized that the Saleen is likely the non-supercharged version? It makes about 100 less horsepower and comes from the factory with a 3.55. Give the Saleen a 4.10 and you'll see a big difference, not too mention some bigger camshafts. You guys are all pretty amusing though.

Stock s/c Saleens only make 365 crank hp on 8psi (stock boost), where as LS1 F-bodies make 345 n/a hp. why would anyone in their right mind buy one of those over-priced turds? not trolling, just asking a serious question. the fastest i've seen a stock s/c Saleen run is a 13.4 1/4 mile while auto F-bodies run 13.1s stock. thats pitiful. what is a s/c Saleen's appeal? can someone PLEASE answer these questions...

@MurryEB see? we do have a point of of agreeance. gm DOES have strong and dependable push-rod v-8's. again, they SHOULD have it right by now since they've been making it refining it since about 1952. had ford done the same thing with their vastly more dependable pushrod family, they, too, would have a similar arsenal of fine engines. however, in 1991'ish, ford looked into the future and decided there would be no pushrods in it.
the modular family ushered in a whole new era of performance.

in my opinion, chevy continues with the pushrods b/c they, as you wrote, they have some of the most powerful and reliable v-8's out there secondary to continuous refinements and improvements over the years. i know. i'm a dyed-in-the-wool FORD guy dipped in blue and have toted my share of ass-whippin's by the bowtie crowd. have given my share, too, but a relatively stock or bolt-on push-rod 5.0 against an LT or LS is a very hard race to win : )

The big ole' HAMMY isn't all that and a bag of chips (it's no easy win, either) but it does give a bigger playing field for all of us gearheads to frolick in. is good to have a mix of the american muscle duking it out for horsepower and highway supremecy. keeps things interesting. would suck if there were only one car or brand to choose from.
@woodisgood2u true, i had a 88 LX and my cousin had a 82 Z-28 with a mostly stock 350 dropped in, both cars had a T5. I had 3.73's he had like 3.43 gears I think. Normal bolt on's, before I built my motor. Those were great f'n races we used to have with those cars, lots of fun. I would put his front fender on my bumper till about 60-70mph and he would walk by me up to about 110mph and I'd end up on his back fender if both of us had a clean run.

My '95 GT (last push-rod 5.0 Mustang) has held up well and will still hold it's own when beside a comparable car. I remember when 300 hp was an incredible amount from a small-block. Now, mini-vans come with that right out of the box. MM&FF recently tested an '11 six and with nothing more than C.A.I. and a tune went 13.75 @ over 100 m.p.h.! I spent THOUSANDS of $'s EXTRA to get there : (
@MurryEB ...and inferior vs. superior can be a really subjective argument. design-wise, the pushrod v-8 is inferior to an overhead cam design and less efficient. however, as the video shows, the "less efficient" 350 schorched the saleen's ass. it was pure embarrassing. had the saleen been rocking the 351 option of earlier years, the outcome of that race would have been waaay different. again, comparing an apple to an apple (and i quote you) there's no replacement for displacement.

I can easily believe 15.3 for the automatic version, the 87 AOD coupe I had was a turd. You're actually dead on with the rwhp numbers, I dyno'ed my 91 hatch @ 189 rwhp, 262 lb. ft. FWIW, the Formula in the video ran high 11's at Houston Raceway Park way back when.

@Onewaymine used to see a guy at the track in NY run high 13's with a home made ram air, and slicks launching the car like a maniac in an otherwise stock 89 5.0L LX. I ran a 14.1@99.5mph on shitty tires with no traction, awful 60' times and just a cat back exhaust and 3.73 gears in mine years ago.
jesus......thats slow? could he drive? what was the elev of the track? Did the car run right? When I sold my 88 LX, it had trick flow heads, cam, intake, MAF conversion, 3.73 gears, full exhaust, some suspension mods, and the rest of the normal upgrades, injectors etc....all motor that car went mid 12's...without a blower.

my 2006 mustang gt has, C&L Street Intake, 62mm BBK Throttle Body, FRPP Delete Plates, JBA LT Headers, JBA O/R H-pipe, JBA Axleback, Detriot Trutrac with 4.10s, with all of that my car only makes 295 at the wheels figuring about 15% loss its about 340 at the crank cams are good for another 25-50 rwhp so 28-58 crank, so if you know a magical cam set up that will give me 135 more hp over the 40 i gained with everything else id love to know.
@LS1Brains pretty much, actually cost more to get less power on motor as to just throwing a charger on it... im probably just going to do an ignition & pulley upgrade to mine it will put me at an honest 305-310rwhp crank.. my 295 rwhp is on an performance 87 octane tune, not a race 93.. and with the 4.10 gears i still get 17.1 mpg around town. i do scca and auto cross events not drag racing... and i have enough power for my needs
@LS1Brains not anymore, trickflow has top end kits for the 4.6 sohc 2v that bumps the power to 406hp at the fly. the car onewaymine is driving has a 3v motor. the 3v with just a cai and hand held tune gets 15 hp at the wheels so i can believe he has 300hp at the wheels.

@Texarmageddon 4.6 2v does need a built bottom end for 400hp at the fly....nothing was changed in the bottom end for the top end kit in order to get the 400hp. simply change the fuel injectors from 19 to 24lbs cai and full exhaust and a dyno tune and its done....

I have no intentions of keeping this car for 15-20,000 miles. My car is approaching 90,000 miles....... it would be stupid not to get a built bottom end. @johnknight1981 These are high RPM heads.. best suited with force induction... Hence, why run something and not use it to their full potential... If you're trying to run a N/A build I suggest you go for Patriot Performance or something.
@Texarmageddon because trickflow is the only company thats makes their own heads not taken ford heads and fixing them up to be better. as far as being high rpm heads as you put it doesnt mean its ment for a power adder....look at a 69 camaro with a 302....7k redline. The only thing that is "ment" for a power adder is the stage 2 cam but many people go without one. besides even you know that a n/a motor last longer with its performance dont have to worry about heat soak like a blower.

@Onewaymine i would just get an F-body lol. the GM equivalent to the parts you mentioned would put an F-body in the 400 crank hp range. thats why you dont see people trying to build a strong N/A mustang b/c you cant do it without breaking the bank. and if you actually do get it to make good numbers, you could have spent the same on an F-body and get roughly 50-60% more power. <- thats if your still talking N/A. boost is another story.
@rahu8670 yes, 87 octane tune on a mustang dyno. and i think some people didnt get the sarcasm with the 135hp on cams, lol. that cars sold. only lasted one night on craigs list. bought a c5 vette in its place have c5 z51 springs c6 Z51 swaybars and c5 Z06 shocks on the way, C5 Z06 wheels and tires already installed :)
I'm a Chevy Fan by heart, yet i do drive an 02 Mustang Gt. I've helped in putting together a lot of chevy engines together from 283,305,327 and the bitch 350, which takes skills and knowledge. in order for ford to keep up with Chevy they made it easy to just add bolt ons to get the HP chevy engines already produce. thats why ford racers use the 350 in their light ass cars. and you can't beat the price of a Mustang compared to the Vette or Camaro.

@SupQTTS you can easily TT a stock engine, you will have to upgrade the injectors and i guess it has to be stated "tune it"... do i have to say manifolds & exhaust. now of course, you cant throw too much boost at it thats just common sense. transmissions depends auto/manual, mostly just depends on how much power. a custom cam would always help out, but for street purpose under light to moderate boost engine will be fine, yes it will cost the engine some life span.

Has one genius here not realized that the Saleen is likely the non-supercharged version? It makes about 100 less horsepower and comes from the factory with a 3.55. Give the Saleen a 4.10 and you'll see a big difference, not too mention some bigger camshafts. You guys are all pretty amusing though.

@MurryEB see? we do have a point of of agreeance. gm DOES have strong and dependable push-rod v-8's. again, they SHOULD have it right by now since they've been making it refining it since about 1952. had ford done the same thing with their vastly more dependable pushrod family, they, too, would have a similar arsenal of fine engines. however, in 1991'ish, ford looked into the future and decided there would be no pushrods in it.
the modular family ushered in a whole new era of performance.

in my opinion, chevy continues with the pushrods b/c they, as you wrote, they have some of the most powerful and reliable v-8's out there secondary to continuous refinements and improvements over the years. i know. i'm a dyed-in-the-wool FORD guy dipped in blue and have toted my share of ass-whippin's by the bowtie crowd. have given my share, too, but a relatively stock or bolt-on push-rod 5.0 against an LT or LS is a very hard race to win : )

@woodisgood2u true, i had a 88 LX and my cousin had a 82 Z-28 with a mostly stock 350 dropped in, both cars had a T5. I had 3.73's he had like 3.43 gears I think. Normal bolt on's, before I built my motor. Those were great f'n races we used to have with those cars, lots of fun. I would put his front fender on my bumper till about 60-70mph and he would walk by me up to about 110mph and I'd end up on his back fender if both of us had a clean run.

My '95 GT (last push-rod 5.0 Mustang) has held up well and will still hold it's own when beside a comparable car. I remember when 300 hp was an incredible amount from a small-block. Now, mini-vans come with that right out of the box. MM&FF recently tested an '11 six and with nothing more than C.A.I. and a tune went 13.75 @ over 100 m.p.h.! I spent THOUSANDS of $'s EXTRA to get there : (

@MurryEB ...and inferior vs. superior can be a really subjective argument. design-wise, the pushrod v-8 is inferior to an overhead cam design and less efficient. however, as the video shows, the "less efficient" 350 schorched the saleen's ass. it was pure embarrassing. had the saleen been rocking the 351 option of earlier years, the outcome of that race would have been waaay different. again, comparing an apple to an apple (and i quote you) there's no replacement for displacement.

@Onewaymine A stock 87-93 Mustang 5 speed with a good driver can squeak into the high 13's (been there, done that, with two of my own - 91 GT, 91 LX hatch). I can easily believe 15.3 for the automatic version, the 87 AOD coupe I had was a turd. You're actually dead on with the rwhp numbers, I dyno'ed my 91 hatch @ 189 rwhp, 262 lb. ft. FWIW, the Formula in the video ran high 11's at Houston Raceway Park way back when.

my 2006 mustang gt has, C&L Street Intake, 62mm BBK Throttle Body, FRPP Delete Plates, JBA LT Headers, JBA O/R H-pipe, JBA Axleback, Detriot Trutrac with 4.10s, with all of that my car only makes 295 at the wheels figuring about 15% loss its about 340 at the crank cams are good for another 25-50 rwhp so 28-58 crank, so if you know a magical cam set up that will give me 135 more hp over the 40 i gained with everything else id love to know.

@LS1Brains pretty much, actually cost more to get less power on motor as to just throwing a charger on it... im probably just going to do an ignition & pulley upgrade to mine it will put me at an honest 305-310rwhp crank.. my 295 rwhp is on an performance 87 octane tune, not a race 93.. and with the 4.10 gears i still get 17.1 mpg around town. i do scca and auto cross events not drag racing... and i have enough power for my needs

@LS1Brains not anymore, trickflow has top end kits for the 4.6 sohc 2v that bumps the power to 406hp at the fly. the car onewaymine is driving has a 3v motor. the 3v with just a cai and hand held tune gets 15 hp at the wheels so i can believe he has 300hp at the wheels.

@Texarmageddon 4.6 2v does need a built bottom end for 400hp at the fly....nothing was changed in the bottom end for the top end kit in order to get the 400hp. simply change the fuel injectors from 19 to 24lbs cai and full exhaust and a dyno tune and its done....

@Texarmageddon because trickflow is the only company thats makes their own heads not taken ford heads and fixing them up to be better. as far as being high rpm heads as you put it doesnt mean its ment for a power adder....look at a 69 camaro with a 302....7k redline. The only thing that is "ment" for a power adder is the stage 2 cam but many people go without one. besides even you know that a n/a motor last longer with its performance dont have to worry about heat soak like a blower.

I've helped in putting together a lot of chevy engines together from 283,305,327 and the bitch 350, which takes skills and knowledge. in order for ford to keep up with Chevy they made it easy to just add bolt ons to get the HP chevy engines already produce. thats why ford racers use the 350 in their light ass cars. and you can't beat the price of a Mustang compared to the Vette or Camaro.

@SupQTTS you can easily TT a stock engine, you will have to upgrade the injectors and i guess it has to be stated "tune it"... do i have to say manifolds & exhaust. now of course, you cant throw too much boost at it thats just common sense. transmissions depends auto/manual, mostly just depends on how much power. a custom cam would always help out, but for street purpose under light to moderate boost engine will be fine, yes it will cost the engine some life span.

@muzacmitchell Yes ur trying to say it would win on a track....Its a drag race......and the fact that a Bugatti would rape a ZR1 on top end and acceleratrion is better than any track times
