The greeks conquered them in the early days of Macedonia, and most the ruling class, city dwellwers and land owners were greek. @patka1982 if you ever did a proper history lesson you would find out first that out of all the city-states in ancient greece only a handful had democracy (one of them athens which is the most known), all the rest of them had either kings(especially sparta) or a few nobles that managed the cities, also the people that lived in macedon were related to the people of peleponesia and crete because they were from the same tribes that came down from the north who were called Dorians.

At this time in history, there are no Greeks. Those who considered themselves Hellenic, the Athenians for example, looked down on the northern parts of what is now called Greece. They considered them barbarians and were very suprised and embarrased to get their asses kicked at Chaeronea by this guy Phillipos and his son Alexandros. These last two however, did consider themselves part of the Hellenic community and strived to convince others of the same.

i find it funny he sais here ( 2300 B.C.) for teh freedom and glory of greece, eventho the therm or name Greece came into history in the 1870s, the years when the greek flag was invented before 1870 there never was any greek, there was hellens, sparta and peleponesia. They all were in todays Greece and had a demokratic republik as a ruling way, and macedonia was a kingdom ruled by a king.

@patka1982 if you ever did a proper history lesson you would find out first that out of all the city-states in ancient greece only a handful had democracy (one of them athens which is the most known), all the rest of them had either kings(especially sparta) or a few nobles that managed the cities, also the people that lived in macedon were related to the people of peleponesia and crete because they were from the same tribes that came down from the north who were called Dorians.

@patka1982 also the correct term of greece comes from the french who called the people of greece "grecus" which meant "thiefs" or of that sort because of their poverty. the proper name to call greece is Hellas and that term existed back from the age of the battle of thermopylae where for the first time the people of greece stood united and saw that they were related to each other, since then there were people in greece who wished to unite the greeks but a great civil war broke out.

@patka1982 The one who gave that ideal flesh and bones was Phillip the second of Macedon who united the greeks after he forced many of them (especially Athens, Sparta and Thebes who were the main powers in the area) or simply allied with them in order to fight back to the persian empire which kept the greeks busy by funding their wars and keeping them separated from each other. So that makes you think why would Phillip want to unite the greeks if he wasn't a greek himself?
