yeah but the point is when Lars started the lawsuit Metallica had already sold over 90 million albums and everyone in the band was a multi millionaire. He just banned thousands of people from Napster out of greed. If you've seen the Some Kind of Monster doucumentary you can see how rich Lars is- he sold one of his paintings for $5 million. Banning people from Napster and filing a lawsuit was really unneccesary.

Honestly, if this technology existed back in the early 80's when all the metal bands we're trying to make it, I could see there being an issue, but not when you're a multi-millionaire who continues to write music for fun rather than a job. 5 million dollars for a painting is equivalent to a regular everyday person earning $62500 an hour and working 80 hours that month. Face it, millions of us everyday get by making much less than that hourly wage in a year. Flat out greed, totally unnecessary.

I hate to break this to you deathxcircle but it's the exact opposite and that is part of the anger of the issue. Metallica as well as most underground metal bands OPENLY encouraged tape trading which is essentially a form of piracy. This would have been embraced. That's partly why the napster thing was bullshit. Everyone knew they would have openly embraced it when they needed the exposure but NOW they were making millions of dollars. It rings of hypocrisy pretty much like their whole career.
