I don't really care for his politics (being a progressive), but Franken is spot-on about this. The threats to Net neutrality are scary and real, we need to stand against it.
The three most important things for Americas future in order:
1. Change the way elections are funded. This is at the heart of all of Americas problems. Without this being fixed, the best change we'll ever get is pocket change.
2. Net neutrality. The internet is going to play a huge role in the future. Who will the corporations favor? Tax-lowering Republicans. Conservative media = fact-free media.
3. Financial reform. Obamas bill is dangerous. It gives false security, until the next crash...

The government already has the ability to restrict monopolies. No new laws are required. If AT&T tried to buy Verizon the government would not allow the transaction. Franken is upset that conservative ideas are more widely adhered to than progressive ideas. Put a good progressive show on the air and people will watch it. MSNBC tries but they are ideological and are plain boring.
Franken is a dangerous man. He's lying when he says his remedy will protect freedom of speech. All this will do is give congress the right to shut down the dissenters voices on tv and radio. Imagine you want to pay your Verizon phone bill and your ISP is ATT. The loss of net nuetrality would allow ATT to BLOCK your access to Verizon's website. As ATT does not own the entire internet system that the data is traveling on (no one does)... how is that fair to the customer? And that's just one example.

marajuanna (and drugs in general) being legalized would lower crime rates and drug related deaths, lower prison populations albeit the number of addicts or user would go up slightly, but however the child who is shot in a slum in a drive by shooting is an innocent victim, however an adult who chooses to use drugs i have far less sympathy from. (cigarettes are far more dangerous then alot of drugs anyway)

Unless you count the cold war, that is not true. If you do count that, then most of the century was war and your statement has no causative bearing, since things both positive and negative occurred during that time, all of which could be attributed to war, or competition.
