I'm a good sniper in BF3 because it has become part of my instincts to automatically calculate the amount of drop but occasionally I'm off. I need some sort of a bullet drop chart or guide to determining the drop properly :/

Too bad there aren't more powerful scopes in this game. 12x just isn't enough at over a mile out. It's do-able, but a moving target is almost down to luck.

I have a GTX 560 Ti and was wondering if the AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE 3.4 GHz is a good choice for a new CPU? Right now I have a pretty bad one: AMD Athlon II X2 220 2.8 GHz.

BF3 has some small maps : seine crossing and Op Metro come to mind. But its nicely balanced with some of the largest maps ever in a BF title. Like firestorm and Kharg island. I prefer the big maps, and I hope they design some that are even larger.
Nice video! Just understood the thing with DPI and ingame settings. It is very annoying when it jumps that "pixel" to the side of the enemy you want to shoot! I hope this will increase my acuracy :)
Hey man, from 7:55 - 8:25 you mention how some targets do not appear at distances. I was wondering if you have found anything else on this as this happens to me all the time consistently over 900M making long range shots very hard.
What I have noticed, is that you can see standing and running targets through the scope out past 2000 meters, but as soon as they crouch or go prone, they disapear. It also depends if they are standing behind a ledge or rock, the geometry of the map changes at long ranges, this is why you can sometimes see guys floating 5 feet above the ground.
@ryandpahl Ok, I hope they patch these problems soon because it makes long range sniping tricky. my longest shot was made by shooting at where i thought they were, pure luck.

I have not been able to find any information about what happens at the long ranges on any website or forums. I think it maybe a system failure on my computer because very few people are having this problem.
Nothing. I imagine there is some sort of code that says if an object takes up less than X number of pixels, don't draw it anymore to help free up resources.

TV's run at the standard 1920x1080, large computer monitors run at higher resolutions.
2560x1440 is true HD for a single screen, although very few offer that resolution. I imagine in the next few years we will see more and more monitors offering the higher resolutions. Its only a matter of time.

I have an LED monitor with a refresh rate limited to that of 60hz as well, but that doesn't mean that if your GPU is rendering more than 60 frames per second that those frames are "wasted". Granted, the picture won't be any smoother with higher framerates, but your mouse input will be far more responsive and "snappy" with framerates above 100+ fps.
You will only get the feedback of how your mouse is moving from the 60 frames you can see. You could be getting 1 million frames per second, but if you can only see 60 of them, then you have no idea how your mouse is responding during the 999,940 frames you missed.
I would suggest that based on your analysis, the mouse would most likely feel laggy because of all the missed information.

Great video as always. Really excited for the new series. Two questions: I saw you were using the m39. Do you prefer that for the semi autos? and what do you think of the l96? I play on ps3 and it seems to have a pretty limited range. The bullet always disappears about midway after the first notch. I'm not sire if its just a rendering glitch or not, but I can't get kills over 900m with it at the moment.
@madblazars But the tradeoff is less life on your card though, if done right however, it only takes a few days or weeks off its life, if done wrong, it can take months or years off (if you don't fry it instantly)
Over clocking is running a device at more than 100% of factory specs. This creates more heat and can fry the unit if not properly cooled. Running faster gives better frame rates at the cost of lowering the life span of your device.
At this point in life, I can afford to run the risk. If the GPU fries, it gives me a reason to upgrade.

Ryan, google the Rat 7 or 9 mouse and read up on the precision mode button. You will go bananas. It is the PERFECT balance between speed and precision.

I don't know. I am still messing around with mouse settings. I have not found what I consider to be the perfect balance. I tweak between almost every round.

Dxtory is the best recording software because even on ultra settings and resolution in 1920x1080 the frames are still consistently in the sixties or higher depending if you don't use fram limiter on it.

Most of the times when I play a team boss I am a sniper, I can view my team and cover them as a sniper, as you say a team full of snipers is not a team, I absolutly agree with that
All this long range HS are cool. But most snipers are just dead weight for the team. Lying miles away from the action, missing most of the shots... Maybe killing several targets in the whole round. How boring is that? Nah... I used to be a fan of sniping, then I took a knife in the ass.
If your only killing a couple guys per round your doing something wrong. Next episode is going to cover ranking up, and analyze the best tactics for points.

People really focus on snipers as the only non-team players. But I see plenty of assault/engineer/support players who are not helping either. Thats why I said it...the team that plays the best together, WINS!
I found a flaw to this last night. The SOFLAM is almost unusable with the mouse setup this way. It requires a much higher sensetivity to move and track targets. Need to rethink this one.
i wish the console maps went farther than 1000m i want a challenge but i dont have to money to invest in a computer. i think its sorta stupid that they changed the maps for pc and consoles. any way great video, i really love the sniping in this game, just the correction for drop and bullet time is awesome.

That depends on what I'm doing.
For long range, nothing beats the M98B with a bipod.
Medium range I like a suppressed M40A5.
For the really small maps I use the M39EMR.

but one thing, lowering the windows sensitivity makes the mousepointer not moving 1:1 and is actually bad, if you are looking for extreme precision.
im not really good in explaining this, because english isnt my mother tongue..
just saying, if you get along with it its great.
best would be to max the mouse dpi (in your case with the resolution) and lower the ingame sens in the config ( e.g. 0.09)

Most of the times when I play a team boss I am a sniper, I can view my team and cover them as a sniper, as you say a team full of snipers is not a team, I absolutly agree with that

All this long range HS are cool. But most snipers are just dead weight for the team. Lying miles away from the action, missing most of the shots... Maybe killing several targets in the whole round. How boring is that? Nah... I used to be a fan of sniping, then I took a knife in the ass.

If your only killing a couple guys per round your doing something wrong. Next episode is going to cover ranking up, and analyze the best tactics for points.

People really focus on snipers as the only non-team players. But I see plenty of assault/engineer/support players who are not helping either. Thats why I said it...the team that plays the best together, WINS!

Everyone appreciates this, not just for the in depth view on your test, but also the hardware side of it to.
I never thought to max my own G5's DPI and lower ingame sensitivity, I'll be sure to try this out and perform some tests of my own.

I found a flaw to this last night. The SOFLAM is almost unusable with the mouse setup this way. It requires a much higher sensetivity to move and track targets. Need to rethink this one.

@ryandpahl I noticed that to, but on australian/new zealand servers this isnt a problem.
Unfortunately nobody uses Javs or guided missles on our servers so Soflam is rarely ever needed.

i wish the console maps went farther than 1000m i want a challenge but i dont have to money to invest in a computer. i think its sorta stupid that they changed the maps for pc and consoles. any way great video, i really love the sniping in this game, just the correction for drop and bullet time is awesome.
