I'd love to know why, in an episode of "The Odd Couple" which involved "Password", why a replica set was built for that episode when the actual set was available.
ABC wiped virtually all of the 1971-73 Password series and the 1974-75 Password All Star's series. It is said that those same videotapes that Password was recorded on were used to record ABC's new game show, The Family Feud. Wiping pre-recorded network media was an unfortunate (a cost cutting practice) maneuver on ABC's, NBC's and CBS's part. They didn't realize the worth of archiving and preserving so many great game shows and other videotaped programs back then. What a waste.
Yeah, but I believe CBS didn't wipe game shows, though. When will the time machine be invented? I'd like someone to go back and tell the networks not to wipe tapes, or they will realize their big mistakes in the future. RIP all of those game shows (including ABC Password) that are forever lost because of tape wiping.
@Animainiac85 Yes, the episodes aired on GSN (although not currently) are from the original CBS daytime and prime time versions, and the "Password Plus" and "Super Password" revivals of the 1980s.
Any "Password" hosted by Allen Ludden is good. But the original CBS version is still the very best, this ABC version the next best.
There is a DVD box set of the original "Password" available.
I just got a WRAL-TV 5 flashback from this, with a bit of WMAL-TV mixed in, LOL!

This is how I remember Password when I was a kid. A shame that a majority of the episodes have been wiped.
