@jayyfun Got the following info from asianmetalnation.
Mr. Akio Shimizu of ANTHEM uses:
TriAmp MKII
CC412A30, CC412B30
Statesman DUAL EL34 Head
Statesman STM412
For live performance, he uses:
TriAmp MKII
CC412A30, CC412B30
I don't know what pedals he uses though. The information above, regarding his amps, is a bit dated. It was given during the Immortal cd's time frame.
From the Immortal album I like either Soul Motor or Road to Nowhere the best, but one of my favorites of all time is "Rescue You" from the Overload cd. Just a killer track! I'm glad you like it man.
I noticed that you are a girl, which is interesting since most who are into Anthem are guys. That can only mean that your metal credentials are intact and up to snuf. I'm glad you're into such a great band. May I ask your age and location on the earth? Most Anthem fans are males who are roughly 35 to about 50, so you can see that you are an anomaly here. Thank you and enjoy.
@strikeofthesword LOL Really? Well maybe it's because the lead singer isn't attractive or something. Anyway I love his voice and the band. I'm 20 and I'm from portugal ^^ and you?
I'm about to turn 40. I'm a Mexican American. Born and raised in Los Angeles Califorinia where I still reside.
Wow! Portugal! Would love to go there some time. Would have to learn a bit of the language though. Not a problem though, cause I'd just listen to language CD's over and over again like I did when I was going to Japan. Learn enough in 3 months to get around. Anyway, it's nice to have a bit of female representation around here. Spread the word. KEEP IT METAL!
@strikeofthesword Nice! Oh you went to Japan?? *envious* -.- I want to go there too. I've been learning japanese for about 2 years now. Keep on going. Portugal is nice for tourists. I want to get the hell out of here XD
I'll surely spread the word and this japanese band!! \m/

@strikeofthesword My favorites have to be Rough and Wild, Mind Slide & Mob Groove and pretty much the entire last half of Black Empire. Shoot ALL their albums KILL anything out there. The only other band I respect on this level is Alice in Chains.
Yeah, but the Loudness album up until the Self Titled one featuring Masaki Yamada are also great. And you ought to check out the Blood Circus cd called Born to Love. It is a band formed up by the rhythm section of Loudness (Masayoshi Yamashita and Munetaka Higuchi). A really great mix of punk and metal. The Munetaka Higuchi project called Dream Castle is also dynamite. I'm glad you like Anthem! Keep it METAL!
I don't know guys, I don't mind paying $30 bucks a pop for something that I get so much enjoyment from, and get it for the rest of my life. I mean, I don't even ponder what I could have done with the money I spent on buying Zeps Houses of the Holy, because its given me so much more.
Call your local radio station and request an Anthem song over and over again. Maybe they'd start playing it; and maybe they'd get a distribution deal near you that would lower the price of the disc. Just a thought.
@BDaMonkey Just buy them or shut up. You can go and buy cheap shitty releases of shitty bands instead of quality stuff like this if you are that stingy.
@BDaMonkey I don't like being called an idiot, especially by someone like you. If you like a band, support them and buy a CD or a shirt or go to the concert or something. You just fucking expect others to this instead of you and keep the band alive so you can wait for the next release to pirate. Or do you mean we should all fucking pirate everything and don't give a dime to the artists who put all their souls into stuff like this? Surely, they'll keep dishing out releases that way as well...
The person who's translated some of these songs is called NaDeenheart. That is the person's name here on Youtube. Basically recorded the music onto a black background with the lyrics. Check it out.
I bought my copy in Kawasaki, actually went to Japan to see Anthem at Club Citta! However, you can order it from CDJapan, just type that in the search box and it'll come up, or there's also HMV. This footage is on the CD+DVD combo called "CORE." You can get just the CD, but why? Enjoy!
I just bought Anthem's new live release called "Live Immortal" and this footage is in the extras. I got it from CDJapan. Looks and sounds WAY better than what I've uploaded here.
You're right "strike". I guess people are so stupid they think they sound like Iron Maiden just because they have a singer who uses a lot of vibrato and crunchy guitars and a somewhat progessive feel in their chord progressions. That's like saying a Ford Taurus is the same as a Mustang because they both have 4 wheels. I swear, the older I get, the more unintelligent some people seem to be. Or at the very least, they don't think for themselves. Peace. -dave
I would also recommend Concerto Moon, early/mid-period Loudness (some of their later work is a bit too trendy, or in other words, boring), X-Japan, and Earthshaker (though Earthshaker tends to be lighter, but with great melodies and guitar work). 44 Magnum is a good 80s band. Vow Wow also did some good work. Kelly Simonz (not his real name) is a very good guitarist in a blues plus Yngwie style.
This sounds so great , what a brilliant song from a super heavy group , I really like japanese Hardrock/Metal but this is for me the icing on the cake , thanx for sharing this , made my day ( again ).
You're welcomed. Glad to share it with you. Holland fucking rocks by the way. Loved Amsterdam, but staying in Lilystat? was trippy. Kind of feels odd knowing that you're beneath sea level and the only thing holding back the ocean are the dikes.
This is GREAT music period. The thing that got me about Loudness 25 years ago is present here. It's like a baseball bat against a car. It just gets your attention. I'd like to here these guys do some material based around traditional Japanese melodies. That's what I heard in Loudness originally. BIG, melodramatic, odd intervals compared to western major modal compositions. I like the Asian scales, they are very emotional. This stuff makes me wanna' jam:-)
These guys are more minor in their composition than Loudness and less "Pop". I'd like to suggest NOT trying to "pigeon-hole" any of this music. Just listen and enjoy. Judge it by it's own strength/weakness. All metal is somewhat derivative. Some of Loudness' more recent detuned stuff isn't my personal taste, but that's their choice as artists. Metal Mad is pretty much classic Loudness style. STRONG riffs and that's REALLY Akira's trademark. Anthem-Fantastic musicians-this is GREAT stuff
I'd like to see an ENTIRE album done this way. The sound quality is STUPENDOUS coming straight from the board. GREAT band, GREAT recording, GREAT setting! Metal at it's best.
I couldn't agree with you more. I like the sound on the Immortal CD, but those songs redone here on the CORE release sound much more raw and heavy. Fucking Eizo sounds amazing here. Definitely get the live feel on this as opposed to the studio release.
Gawd damn I'm feeling old! You young fuckers call this shit "Power Metal", but I just see it as straight forward Metal. You guys have all these new categories and crap that I just don't understand. For instance, I've read elsewhere that Galneryus is "Power Metal", but I wouldn't group Anthem with Galneryus as far as style. Can one of you explain?
well maybe im wrong!sorry if im wrong, but the way they play it sounds like power/Raphsody metal, this guys have a good instrumental/experimental music metal, and the most alike style (in my opinion) its power/raphsody metal, but thinking a little more, this sounds more like Fusion,do you know what fusion is?Just hear Dream Theater and you'll know it...there are a lot of riffs here that reminds me of power metal!
Calling Dream Theater (or Anthem for that matter) fusion is quite a stretch. Fusion is a form of jazz, like Casiopeia and Allan Holdsworth, it's got nothing to do with metal. DT have fusion elements but they have elements of a whole lot of other things aswell, which is what made them pioneers of progressive metal (progressive=pink floyd, yes and such, metal meaning they added metal elements to it). I can't see anything resembling fusion in Anthem's music though.
I understand what you mean. Metal is metal but then as far as music goes there are alot of "new" metal bands that sounds like shit and is nothing near Anthem or other good metal bands or they do play riffs that are faster and heavier than rock so you would group them in metal. So these categories are just to separate them. Power metal is basically band that you can hear power and soild sound like Anthem not just speed and chaotic double bass drumming which is called "speed metal". :)
Im blown away by the timing of this band, they are right on. Akio Shimizu just fucking rip's that guitar apart. Hirotsugu Homma timing is unbelievable seriously an amazingly put together band. Thank you for posting these.
Dude J-Metal is fucking amazing. Loudness X-Japan Galneryus and of course Anthem. Those guys will wipe the with almost every other metal band out there.
Anthem alive and well in '08? My God, I remember burning the grooves off of "Bound to Break" back in the late eightees!! Great to see them still in action.
I completely disagree if you are talking about comparing them currently. Currently it isn't even close, Anthem is fucking great. I don't know what the hell Loudness is shooting at, but it certainly isn't what made them a great band once. Besides, with Anthem it's consistency like it's nobody's business. If you like this, you can buy any of their CD's and know that you're going to dig it. Can't say the same thing for Loudness. And look at my user name, that's coming from a fucking big fan.
Got to agree with you bro! Anthem has been more consistent over the years--BUT, you just have to give props to Shimizu and Akira as being two of the best heavy metal guitarists of all time!!!!
I completely agree. Both Akira and Akio deserve all the credit in the world. And as far as Akira is concerned, I put him up there with EVH and Yngwie Malsteen. Akira to me fell nicely between both of their styles, and thus had his own sound. I just don't particularly like what he's doing now. However, many of us would say the same about EVH and Yngwie.
Great take! Loudness older stuff kicked the crap out of Anthem, but Anthem's newest stuff is way better than Loudness now! Come on Akira--get your band back in the saddle!!!
I wouldn't say it "Kicks the crap" out of them. I would say that there are certain songs that reach a very special place where few have gone. Loudness was very special in their prime. However, I must say that Anthem scratches at those heights with such consistency that they're an absolute pleasure to follow.
And you know what, songs like "Onslaught, XTC, Rescue you, The Voices are right fucking there with Loudness' greatest songs. Bottom line is, we're fortunate to have a band like Anthem around. Sit back and enjoy.
What would you say is Loudness' best work? I don't have any of their albums or Anthem's for that matter, but I want them and I love Eizo Sakamoto from listening to Animetal, so I'm trying to figure out which CDs to buy for both.
From Loudness, anything from the beginning to the self-titled album kicks ass. You should know that the singers changed in between those cd's. Started with Minoru Niihara, then Mike Vescera, and then Masaki Yamada of EZO fame. Thunder in the East was the CD that broke them into the American listening audience. The early Cd's are a bit poppier, then late 80's more Maidenesque/modern for the time sounding metal. With Masaki it turned more to Thrash metal. Anthem - Seven Hills to present.
Although everything from Anthem is worth having. The Seven Hills to present CD's just happen to have the modern production that you're currently hearing. So if you like this...
Thanks. I've been listening to them both as much as I can on Youtube, so thanks for uploading this stuff. It's hard to collect import cd's since they're so expensive.
Eizo Sakamoto has got to be one of the best singers ive ever heard. those scream parts he does always send chills through my brain. Akio Shimizu has some seriously good parts in here too. i like the tapping in the solo. very good.
F that! This band needs to stick together. They've got the right chemistry in my opinion. And I'll take Eizo over Yukio any day. Watch the Anthem 20th anniversary show and you'll see the difference. Eizo is metal as balls. Always going for it!
You mean eizo should keep doing animetal? cause animetal isn't that great, but anthem fucking rock! I juts think Eizo should stop doing ANIMETAL not anthem.
Ah! Then we are both in agreement about Anthem sticking together. I actually don't see why they shouldn't do side projects. They should, so long as it doesn't interfere with the principal project, in this case Anthem.
awesome!!

Can one of you explain?
strikeofthesword 3 years ago
well maybe im wrong!sorry if im wrong, but the way they play it sounds like power/Raphsody metal, this guys have a good instrumental/experimental music metal, and the most alike style (in my opinion) its power/raphsody metal, but thinking a little more, this sounds more like Fusion,do you know what fusion is?Just hear Dream Theater and you'll know it...there are a lot of riffs here that reminds me of power metal!
6CENOURA9 3 years ago
sorry if im wrong,im a guitarrist myself and i just like this kind of music (doest matter the Style at all)..
6CENOURA9 3 years ago
It's cool man. I just trip on how the diction regarding metal has changed over the years. Glad you enjoyed the video. Later.
strikeofthesword 3 years ago

Actually, power metal has a lotto do with fantasy and stuff like that:
COMB0 3 years ago
well i wouldn't say they're better than DT, but they are for sure awesome, a little bit closer to the sound of Elegy tho

Anthem alive and well in '08? My God, I remember burning the grooves off of "Bound to Break" back in the late eightees!! Great to see them still in action.

Thanks for upping this. Watching Akio makes me just...0_0

Their good but I think Loudness are the best metal band. I like the solo.
88mpny 3 years ago
I completely disagree if you are talking about comparing them currently. Currently it isn't even close, Anthem is fucking great. I don't know what the hell Loudness is shooting at, but it certainly isn't what made them a great band once. Besides, with Anthem it's consistency like it's nobody's business. If you like this, you can buy any of their CD's and know that you're going to dig it. Can't say the same thing for Loudness. And look at my user name, that's coming from a fucking big fan.
strikeofthesword 3 years ago
Got to agree with you bro! Anthem has been more consistent over the years--BUT, you just have to give props to Shimizu and Akira as being two of the best heavy metal guitarists of all time!!!!
quito535 3 years ago
I completely agree. Both Akira and Akio deserve all the credit in the world. And as far as Akira is concerned, I put him up there with EVH and Yngwie Malsteen. Akira to me fell nicely between both of their styles, and thus had his own sound. I just don't particularly like what he's doing now. However, many of us would say the same about EVH and Yngwie.
strikeofthesword 3 years ago
Great take! Loudness older stuff kicked the crap out of Anthem, but Anthem's newest stuff is way better than Loudness now! Come on Akira--get your band back in the saddle!!!
quito535 3 years ago
I wouldn't say it "Kicks the crap" out of them. I would say that there are certain songs that reach a very special place where few have gone. Loudness was very special in their prime. However, I must say that Anthem scratches at those heights with such consistency that they're an absolute pleasure to follow.
strikeofthesword 3 years ago
And you know what, songs like "Onslaught, XTC, Rescue you, The Voices are right fucking there with Loudness' greatest songs. Bottom line is, we're fortunate to have a band like Anthem around. Sit back and enjoy.
strikeofthesword 3 years ago
What would you say is Loudness' best work? I don't have any of their albums or Anthem's for that matter, but I want them and I love Eizo Sakamoto from listening to Animetal, so I'm trying to figure out which CDs to buy for both.
CleverSleazoid8 3 years ago
From Loudness, anything from the beginning to the self-titled album kicks ass. You should know that the singers changed in between those cd's. Started with Minoru Niihara, then Mike Vescera, and then Masaki Yamada of EZO fame. Thunder in the East was the CD that broke them into the American listening audience. The early Cd's are a bit poppier, then late 80's more Maidenesque/modern for the time sounding metal. With Masaki it turned more to Thrash metal. Anthem - Seven Hills to present.
strikeofthesword 3 years ago
Although everything from Anthem is worth having. The Seven Hills to present CD's just happen to have the modern production that you're currently hearing. So if you like this...
strikeofthesword 3 years ago
Thanks. I've been listening to them both as much as I can on Youtube, so thanks for uploading this stuff. It's hard to collect import cd's since they're so expensive.

Eizo Sakamoto has got to be one of the best singers ive ever heard. those scream parts he does always send chills through my brain. Akio Shimizu has some seriously good parts in here too. i like the tapping in the solo. very good.
CaptainAshra 3 years ago
I'm glad you enjoyed Captain. They are one of my favorites. Naoto is the man though.
strikeofthesword 3 years ago
He's gotta stop doing animetal, leave the anime to JAM proj. and Robometal, Eizo should stick to animetal.
tissuekins 3 years ago
F that! This band needs to stick together. They've got the right chemistry in my opinion. And I'll take Eizo over Yukio any day. Watch the Anthem 20th anniversary show and you'll see the difference. Eizo is metal as balls. Always going for it!
strikeofthesword 3 years ago
You mean eizo should keep doing animetal? cause animetal isn't that great, but anthem fucking rock! I juts think Eizo should stop doing ANIMETAL not anthem.
tissuekins 3 years ago
Ah! Then we are both in agreement about Anthem sticking together. I actually don't see why they shouldn't do side projects. They should, so long as it doesn't interfere with the principal project, in this case Anthem.
strikeofthesword 3 years ago
They should be playing in worldwide tours and festivals... The world is missing some SERIOUS Metal here!.
