@freddym223 Would it be possible to do a tutorial on the chord progressions and maybe demonstrate which notes would be good for improvising with? This is one of my favorite jazz pieces, especially when it's instrumental.
@JorgeL721 a lesson like that would take too much time, and youtube only allows 10 minutes for a video. if you check out lesson # 10, i show how i improvise . and i show some color tones to improvise with .
Thank you very much for your jazz guitar lessons, of every teacher on the internet you are the one that explains the simplest way to pick up the guitar and get the jazz flowing out without it feeling difficult.
Just stumbled onto this - fantastic playing! Wonderful tone, wonderful ideas and wonderful phrasing - what more can anyone want. Well done - and thanks for posting this gem!
@freddym223 I just looked them up. Not an expensive guitar but you sure make it sound like a million bucks. Did you have a lot of work done on the action or was it pretty good when you bought it? It just goes to show you dont need a 5000 dollar guitar to make beautiful music. A lot of it is in the fingers and how you feel the music should flow. Thanks again.
@clewi1091 .i sent for it sight unseen which i've never done before.it's stock and was playable out of the box.i adjust the action as the weather changes
Oh one more thing... your rendition of Wave sent chills down my spine. Your technique has the Charlie Byrd signature also. Overall. your playing the guitar sends me into a romantic dream state. I hope you wSill post some more music videos.
You're way too modest. If Harold Bradley would some time off as the Prez of the performing artists union to listen to your masterpieces, he would be thrilled with your solo productions. First off, I couldn't decide whether I was listening to Tony Mottola or Harold Bradley, but your rendition of Misty tipped the scale for that distinguishable Bradley style.
sorry, my bad ! that was a typo. my fingers dont work as well as they used to. it should read " one off the rack".. meaning just a stock, un-modified guitar
You are a true inspiration Freddy, wow man, if I can attain half of that I should on my way. You play phenomenally and with much soul. Great phrasing, smooth transitions, flowing, like water. Tone for days, fine touch... your notes dance with each other, like they themselves are waltzing, shuffling between themselves... Thank You for a wondrous sound and true inspiration-
Very nice playing Freddy. I've payed for lessons for jazz guitar and I have to admit... I've learned just as much from you as I have from the lessons I have payed for. Keep it up and I'll continue to listen like I do daily.
Nice work! But Johnny Mercer had nothing to do with what we hear in this video. The credit for the music goes to Victor Schertzinger, who wrote it, and died the same year it was published, 1941!
What in heck is in this guys right hand!? Looks like he's playing with a pocket comb! Great player; just never seen anyone use a huge pick or whatever it is. I thought it was reflection off the pickup cover but his hand is like three inches off the guitar. Interesting.
Thank you Freddy for sharing your knowledge with everyone. You've got alot of it! I'm really diggin on all the lessons you've posted and the tunes are superb. Keep it on!
Oh yes Freddy. Nice playing as ever.. The arthritis in my thumb got worse at this end. I gotta have metal-knee joints too. They interfere with the amp signal and I got to keep clear of scrapyards and magnetic cranes! Ah the perils of growing older! Lol!
hi John!we're missin you something awful here on youtube.since your my age,i know what your going thru.best wishes, and stay away from those magnetic cranes.lol
Great tone! Excellent execution and a great rendition of a wonderful standard. As always, thanks for sharing and keeping it real Freddy! I look forward to your next posting.
I long for the day when I can play as smoothly as you Freddy! Great lines. That was one of the first standards I tried to play when I first started, I didn't get too far. Great playing!
Yes Fred, love this style, very well played with good sound and note choices, wonderful clear sound. The music from that Era sure has something, composers where always looking for a decent progression and fine theme, thats why I loooove Jazz, let's take the time-machine and go jammin with those guys, lol greets Vic.
thanks jazzguts,i still love those old tunes,i kinda got in on the tail end of that ara when i lived in los angeles which was a good jazz city in the 50's
Yeah Fred,I bet you saw many Jazz celebrities perform in those days, I had it with North-Sea Jazz in the older days,I used to go every year and see all those fantastic Jazz men who played mainstream and Bebop, but now the festival isn't half of what it was,too much commercial Stuff that has nothing to do with Jazz and improvisation, Greets Vic.
Very nice. You get a wonderful sound from that guitar. The high notes are so brilliant and the low ones so soothing. It's been persuading me to get me a 335.
thanks Pablo! i played prewar L5's till i got tired of feedback and trying to wrap my arms around a big guitar, and worrying about it getting stolen. 335's suit me very well
This is really cool. I wish I could get the hang of guitar,...one day.
