Call me a chauvinist but this is one of those rare performances where the female not only completely outshines her male counterpart but also reiterates the fact that being a 'male' dancer wont suffice. It takes a lot of hard of hard work and perseverance to match this finesse...
The guy has miles to go before he can come anywhere near this...
Yes there are. If you click on the side, for more from zcsay45, you will see the other dances. I have watched her dances several times and each time I see more and more beauty in her presentation. Indeed a total dedication for the art.
It is not the experience alone, but also equally important to learn the right technique, when you learn any form of art and make the roots stronger, rather than rush to learn without absorbing the right form. Sanjay is not bad but needs to do a lot of correction with patience !!!!
Sanjay Shetty needs to work very hard on his dance. Has to work on the basics a lot. Moving and throwing limbs everywhere is not a dance. He needs to have a body discipline and control his hands, wrists and the neck. He needs to be told by the right people, if at all, wants to persue his passion! I hope he would realise that!!
well...that is very true. Can't make any excuses for mediocre dancing. but just to let you know that at that point i had learnt Kathak for 2years only and obviously its just a drop of learning compared to much senior dancers like Archita. Also i was running a very high fever that evening and was on stage after eating a lot of paracetamol tablets. But i had been told by lots of people about the exact things that you have mentioned and hope that now that its been 4years, i must have improved a bit
After learning for 2 years and with a fever, that's understandable and even admirable. I've been learning kathak for a couple of months and I'll be happy if I am able to dance like this after two years.
One of the most meledious Tarana I have heard and seen. You are one of the brilliant dancer I have ever come across. By the way I saw your performance in Ahmedabad - Kadamb. It was beautiful and the best of the lot, vey graceful and excellent style. I could not see you as I had other commitments. Hope to see you again in future.
I am based in India, but travel a lot to US/UK half the time. I also enjoy watching good dance performances.Had learnt kathak from Lachhu Maharaj, and also Odissi for few years from Kelubabu. But then took up my studies and job.You are very good and keep on till you can. Best of luck !!!
I suggest you link your videos to DynamycDesi - they are a good forum to help you promote yourself and also give weekly awards to the best talent of the week
Hi Architaji, wrote to you before. You are simply awesome. I have become a great fan of yours and i would like to watch you live. I don't have words to express how elegant and great dancer you are. Hope to see you many more from you.
I just have to say that your "chakkars" are beautiful. I'm learning kathak and i've worked on my chakkars so many times that my heels are hurting...lol. it looks beautiful but sure is painful. :)
Another excellent post. The gentleman - Mr.Shetty - is a good dancer as well. I've seen Birju-ji before, and I believe this is very much a continuation of that (more youthful, contemporary). My only question: Is it possible to trip while doing some of the moves? I would think that since the dresses are long, that tripping is common. Once again, I love the music as well.
hello there. well i can say that ive never heard of anyone tripping on their costume before :) one thing that can happen though, is loss of balance especially during chakkars.
The more I watch this video, the more graceful you seem to be. Excellent control of your Laya and your movements are perfect and very clean and sharp. Good selection of costume. You are gifted Archita. God Bless you!! Your parents must be very supportive for the Art.
thank you vizag. yes my parents are very supportive of the Arts. i couldnt have achieved much was it not for their constant support and encouragement - i think im quite lucky that way. are you also a dancer? Rgds, Archita
Hello! Even though I'm not very familiar with this dance form, I want to let you know that I'm impressed with this kind of dance, and very interested in learning more. :)
hi!!! YOUR AMAZING! i see an amazin sense of control, precision n grace in ur movements...u mustve worked hard to achieve this..congrats!! im still trainin, still gettin there.....i learned from maulik uncle as well...he comes to toronto to do workshops once a year...n this year he choreographed many dances n we jus did a show this weekend too..it was so great...i actually watched ur video last week n asked maulik uncle abou u....n he said he remebers u n thinks ur good dancer too..
thank you sim. wow, thats really nice of maulik ji to say that. im a great admirer of his dance actually. i think hes got some really special qualities, making him very distinct from other dancers. you are lucky to be learning from him. good luck with the training and thanks for taking the time to write :)
Your dance is as beautiful as you are. I find you are very graceful Archita. Perhaps you are very musical as well, since your movements are not just mecanical but it seems to flow from within you, which is rare to find these days! I watch this dance almost everyday. Thanks for sharing.
thank you chhaya24, for such encouraging feedback. actually your guess is correct - i have had some training in hindustani vocal and sitar. are you a dancer yourself? Regards, archita
good danceing girl is much better the male dancer but coordination of both is good. do anybody know the names of the dancers? where this concert was held?
Thanks pushpanjali. are you an indian or indian classical dancer? i read your comments about our dance perticularly about my dance. i am now trying to reduce my waight.
I train in both Kathak and Bharatanatyam, but I am a beginner in both. I also do Hindi/Tamil film dance, and teach that to children/teens. You can read more information on my youtube profile.
good work indeed whose desiple are both of you? your combination is good but as indidual you are much better accept my congratulation. you can see me and my students work on you tube too.
sanjay recently started kathak and has learnt mostly with abhay shankar mishra. most of my initial training was with jayashree acharya, with some training later on with abhay shankar mishra. here in london we're quite fortunate to be able to learn from various visiting artists such as kumudini lakhia, saswati sen, aditi mangaldas, maulik shah, and of course pt. birju maharaji.
really fantastic. I think Jaishree should remeber me. we danced from 1989-93 in Birju Maharaj's Choreographis togather sometimes. when she danced in bombay in Kal Ke Kalakar I was there on Padant for Dr. Bharti Gupta. I heard she got merried and setteled in Londan.give my regards to her. my name is Ashwani Nigam
wow this is amazing. I love watching Kathak and Bharatnatyam dances... but i never knew that men could also partake in dancing and also performing. Had ai known this I probably would have taken lessons loooong ago. Very well done. Beautiful!
where can i find this version of this tarana? its beautiful! thanks

The reason for this is very simple: Archita Kumar is an experienced dancer, while Sanjay is a beginner.
