  • lol i laughed so hard when you said looking like you're having a seizure on the machine. i see this so often and i want to say hey.. go all the way back and try it then.. but then id sound like an asshole.

  • Thank you again Scott. You are wonderful.

  • Hammer Strength?? you really dont look that strong

  • @BIGBROTHERXXII im not sure how advanced you are in bodybuilding but im a beginner myself. I think what the (HAMMER STRENGTH) means on the title is the name of the "producer" of the machine? because at my local gym, i see hammer strength is engraved on most of the machines there. and he is strong, i've seen quite a few of his videos. (135lbs bicep curl, 110lbs skull crusher, etc)

  • daamn look at that muscle on hes knees!!!

  • How many reps/sets should be done on this machine?

  • @jerbear53 This depends on your training routine. Generally the reps that should be done on this vary from 6 to 24 (approximately). Abs are an endurance muscle just like legs, so they can be worked with higher repetitions and you'll see results in a different way than say... biceps at high repetitions (14+ reps).

If you want a rule of thumb and you're not doing any sort of organized training routine, I'd say aim for 8-12 reps, and do 3-4 sets. Don't make it your only ab exercise.

  • Thank you Scott... your videos are excellent. Greetings from Brazil !!!

  • Thanks I never was able to use this properly, now I'll give this a shot! Thanks for the instruction!

  • I always feel this machine is one of the hardest to use because I sometimes feel uncomfortable on it I I reckon this will help though thanks

  • 1.39 Scott really impresses himself with his joke..... good work out videos though!

  • How many reps should I be able to do? I dont know what weight to set mine as

  • How long will it take me to get a perfect 6 pack... if using this machine?

  • He was proud of his joke about having a seizure lmao

  • Started doing the leg lifts again...thats almost a guarantee for sore abs the next day aka MUSCLE GROWTH

  • whrz ur lower abs..the last two...can't b seen...!

  • wish we had one @ our local gym

  • i didn't use this machine correctly, thx for the advices

  • useless exercise.... your better off doing hang leg raises for abs or better yet SQUATS and DEADLIFTS. Abs are all about low body fat anyway so why give people false hope and teach them useless bullshit? Teach nutrition not the ab machine.

  • @Plumfire2 Your wrong.. Some people have low body fat but just need a Weighted Exercises for the abs to really POP OUT. One can have a nice soft ab appearance but in order to have that BLOCK/3D look in the ab area, yes low body fat is good but doing heavy resistance in the ab area is great also.. DON'T HATE.

  • Hahah i LOVE this machine!

  • thanks mate. Just used this machine today at the YMCA. Had trouble with it. My back kept moving from the pads and the handles jammed into my shoulder. I mean I felt the burn, BIG time. But my back in pain. After watching this video I know understand what to do. Thanks mate. Great exercise too. Works out your entire ab area.

  • LOL!! "looking like you're having a seizure on the ab machine" I gave you 5 stars for that alone! (And I could tell by your face you thought you were pretty damn funny)

Your videos are addicting... Short, sweet & to the point. I think I'm on like the 40th one, seriously.

Move to Washington state to train me!

  • I like how you show proper form in your vidoes. Alot of the videos out there don't explain how important it is to keep proper form. They just want to show you how much weight they can lift. Good video, keep it coming!

  • "everything's tight!" oh hell yeah it is!! Keep the vids coming Scott ... many of us really appreciate them! Thanks dude!!

  • Where did you get the shorts, I like the blue and red ones with white stripes on side. I know they are Adidas but no luck to find online. BTW, I enjoy your videos! ;-)

  • this video is great because i guess i didn't know how to use this machine at all, and have been avoiding it for 4 or so years. instead i'd use the Cybex type one because it didn't bother my back, but i wasn't using that one right either!

the only bad thing is... reality! i've had to lower the weight i used by 60 lbs or so, to do the full motion correctly. i guess i used to be one of those seizure people =p

  • ! i forgot to try the rule of thumb before, but it worked out great last night. a lot of the back discomfort vanished.

  • when you say to arch your back a bit, are you trying to keep the arch through the entire motion? or, do you lose the arch when you're bent over?

i get unwanted back discomfort when using this machine =(

  • thanks for the comment on abs. but also what about the other cybex exercixes you demo like the row, chest press, lat pulldown. i am very intimidated by weight lifting but can't swing the cost of a trainer right now.

  • Comment removed

  • When working on a cybex, how many reps / sets should you be doing?

  • then you are even more impressive - alot of work to buld a body like that

  • ive noticed you always wear the same blue shorts when u make these videos.. you should take them off

  • My trainer had me use this machine once, but for some reason we use a different machine now. I'm going to ask him why, because I like this one better.

I love your videos. I pay a fortune for a trainer, but I get better, more detailed advice on YouTube.

  • Nice rule of thumb. I never heard of that before.

  • mcdreamy

  • Thanks Scott. Haha I use to hate this thing! Just threw it in my new routine today, with your tips it worked perfect. oh and how much do you weight? Any tips for the ectomorph?

  • omg this man is so sexy...damn...drooling much..lmfao

  • ahh so thats why my neck is always more sore than my stomach lolol

  • Thanks. That rule of thumb is really helpful. Before, I wasn't sure what would be appropriate. And thanks for demonstrating how to properly use this machine. I used to do it the seizure way, lol. Can you make a video about how to determine what's a good weight for you to lift.

  • wow cool machine i never seen one of those before

  • Working out gets him excited hehe

  • I read in a health (research) letter that getting good abs is more about diet than various exercises. Your take? sg

  • Such a awesome fitness trainer, I wish we had these kind over here.

  • 5 stars more for the abs.

  • Awesome, once again! (:

  • I used this technique tonight!!! It made such a difference, Thanks :]

  • thanx 4 da awesom vids. stay awesome bro

  • well dont u look bigger than usual in this vid, have u been bulking up muscle lately?, today im goin to the sea ,scott can i borrow ur chest just for the day plz, btw man , thnx for the tips, yea many people do this exercise horribly wrong...

  • DUDE u the best better then a personal trainer i dont use these machines but i will next time i go to a gym and at least i'll know what i'm doin n not jus grunt for the fun of it lol :)

  • Scott, my gym as the horizontal bar in front of you with pad you fold your arms across and a stool-like bench with a seatbelt. Nothing to hook feet under. I can't do more than my body weight on that machine. It's old-school ab (bad machine). I had the same version you are using over the summer (not at school), and I could only get a good workout at ~175 lbs. I can't even lift properly on this machine without pulling myself off the chair (even with tight seatbelt).

  • It's the Cybex old-school version. The kind you're using is obviously the updated, better machine. UT has OLD equipment.

Also, with your measurement (fist), what's your height and weight? I figure it would vary based on your height right? I normally (when I have access to that machine you're using--summers/holidays only) just play with the height until I feel a good recruit of my abs.

  • Anyone else catch that huge baseball bicep at 1:40?

  • Hawt D;

  • ohh ,,, thanks dude ... for the help...

  • great video. thanx for the tip. i didn't know that arching your back n breathing were a huge concept when working out and lifting weights. now, how many reps do u do or recommend for this exercise

  • Scott, how many sets and reps of this do you usually do? Is it better to use a light weight and do a lot of reps, or a heavier weight and do fewer?

  • depends on what your trying to do, he said to lift a weight you know you can do so i would go as high as you can with 6-8 reps, and do 10-12 sets

  • Hey thanks for the tip, I usually do this machine but I was always concerned I wasn't doing it correctly... Now I know for sure what to do.... Thanks......

  • Comment removed

  • yeah i really need to do this one more often. i'm always looking so new ways to workout my abs. Never forget the ab pillow! lol

  • thanks scott for the helpful tip...even though i knew how to use the machine properly. thought i would still say thanks for this and all the other videos. good work buddy

  • Hmm,

    a) do you have a permenant erection? not complaining btw. :l

    b) wtf is wrong with your veins?

  • hahahaha

  • lmfao!

  • Scott , i love you......

do you understand? ! I LOVE YOUUUUUU !

  • what kind of gym it's called "answer is fitness"?

    jesus.

  • how old are you?

  • Yo stud, check out his profile. Unlike you he filled his out.

In life--you drink what you pour.

    --Paul Sullivan--

    Cheers

  • Great tip Scott - I do the ab machine, but the whole point out keeping one's head straight is a good one, and one I keep forgetting. Keep up the great tips for us who need it!

  • DAMN SCOTT IS SO HOTT!!!

  • thanks Scott. You're The MAN!!! :)

  • You have a REALLY nice butt Scott...especially for a white guy lol.

  • Whats your opinion on which chest exercise is the most efficient?

  • You should have your own TV show. x

  • he should.

  • Careful what you wish for. If he did he wouldn't be answering you directly in this same one on one personal way. Of course, the nature of the beast is soon (sooner than you think) he will become a victim of his own success and won't have the time to answer anyone's comments. Unfortunately that's life. I enjoy the back and forth as it gives a deeper insight to the real Scott, his persona even more "beautiful" than his magnificent mien.

    Cheers

  • hey scott,

thanks man, u cant imagine how much help these vids are doing!

    you are a star :-)

  • hey Scott what type of work outs target the lower abdomonal muscels? and also how long did it take for you to get your body the way it is now

  • @yehyasucks leg raises

  • @yehyasucks leg raises target lower abs

  • can you do a video of workouts that don't involve anykind of machine?? for those that can't go to a gym...

  • @caesarbrutus

Watch ghetto workouts...there is never an excuse why you can't exercise. Or just do plain old calisthenics workouts. That helps alot

  • @caesarbrutus he did a trx for beginners video. you can buy a trx strap and a bar to clip it onto. you could always put the bar in a doorway or something. check out the vid!

  • for better results, would it be better to do a fast crutch, then slowly release it? and maybe vice versa?

  • good vid *-

  • can you do a video on your biceps, triceps workout? thanks!

  • I've always wondered if those chairs are really effective...

  • nice vid man.
