Out of all the actors with non-singing experience Emma had the most potential for actually being a great singer! Anya was my favorite character in the show after Spike.
Ugh! Anya is such an AWESOME character! I always wanted her (as a reborn vengeance demon) and Willow (as Dark Willow) to clash at the end of season 6. Anya was extremely powerful as a vengeance demon in season 3, why so limited against Willow at the end of season 6? Anyway, this song breaks my heart every time I hear it.
@timberbothy2 I don't think Vengeance Demons are really that powerful, to be honest. They're somewhat strong, and they're pretty durable, and they're supposed to be immune to mind control (but Willow can overcome that immunity). Their main power lies in granting wishes. Willow, on the other hand, was a physical embodiment of power.
@waterkeeper511 True. Her power lies mostly in wishes, but she gave Giles a run for his money in "The Wish" and in this episode went toe-to-toe with Buffy. I know Anya would've lost the fight, I think I was more wishing that Anya and Willow would clash over their differences on a more mystical platform than their silly banter in "Triangle". She could've slowed DW down more, at least.

@KalikaInLeather What happened was... Drew Goddard, who wrote the episode, asked Joss if it was possible for him to write a song as a flash-back to OMWF. The episode this song is from ("Selfless") provides a great deal of character back story for Anya. And a big part of her story was her falling in love with Xander. Goddard wanted to show that Anya had basically lost herself in loving Xander, and this is what came out.
Funny that Joss said no first, but ended up delivering this gem.

I really loved this episode I sympathize for her. Her whole life she was an outcast and she wanted a happy married life but it didnt work out. There aren't always happy endings. This episode made me love Anya a lot

I love this song, it's really intense and really sad too. I remembered I cried on this EP when she was remembering and got cut off by the end of the song, bringing her back to reality. She pushed herself really hard to love and yet she couldn't be happy. Her death was so quick it didn`t make up for it.

yeah, that's what made me love the entire episode, this flashback song followed by that image of her, Anya, not Anyanka, stabbed through the chest, crying. Superb.
my favorite part "we'll never part, (not if we can...)" the bridge I mean the changing of the melody: that very line is so intense and meaningful: you know they've parted and all's gone astray - and yeah the melody of that precise moment is magic, such strength with so few notes!
The scene is so beautiful. She was so happy! ):
