There's a cat at my grandparents house that does this but with round knobs. At least we think that's how he kept getting in the room. Maybe it was someone sleeping walking and opening the door for him.
This is about as mean as locking your friend out of his house. If anything he taught the cat how to open the door. My can learned how to turn on the faucet to get water, although she has the same water in her bowl lol. Plus she figured out how to open screen doors and turn off the light ha.
@sonusbeat Why is he a bad owner? He didn't beat the cat did he? Did he ever abuse it? NO! He just left it in a room so it could learn to open a door. Guess what, that's what people do in science lab in Britain to learn cats how to open doors for their experiments. And they are left for even longer. Probably 4 hours without food or water and the only way they get out is by opening the door
Sometimes, I don't bother opening the door for one of my 2 cats (the male one)... he does it without my help. However my other cat (the female one) never tried. Another funny thing about my male cat : he hugs me (around the neck). But my other cat never did that (with anyone). And I found out that my male cat just hugs girls/women, not boys/men. It's funny.
While I think they're intelligent... I just wonder how much. Very often, my cats don't react to their names (or maybe they don't care XD).
When was the last time you waited forty minutes for the waiter to take you order in a restaurant or waited forty minutes for a delayed plane.
.
Forty minutes for that cat gives it much suffering which is nothing to do with intelegence testing; your test is a measurement of time taken to do a task the cat has not previously been taught to do.
.
Making the cat discover it can get out may get your pet confiscated and a fine for pet harming.
@YouAreSoRight Not only is your statement absurd but it's idiotic to think that this is cruelty to animals. He left the cat in a room, how is this cruel? I put my cat in the basement at night, I guess I must be a real asshole huh? Get over it.
My cat would have attacked the toilet paper roll, removing all of it from the holder, playing with it on the ground trying to keep amused or crying at the door. Big cat, kinda fatty, a homebound male?
my cat opens the door instantly... the first time he did it was under 5 minutes. i am freaked out since..
btw nice cat

Not cruel at all. If you think this is cruel you are an over sensitive person.

Good video. Disregard the people who say this is cat abuse. Really? Cat abuse? The cat was stuck in a room for all of 2 minutes, if that.

@Petey0707 Dear Chris,
When are you going to contribute to the you-tube community by creating and posting a video?
.
May be you could video your cat's home in the basement for us all to see.

Making your cat smarter:
Step 1: Make your cat take AP door opening mechanics.
Step 2: See if he improves.
Step 3: If he doesn't improve after step 2, repeat.
