  • DAMN im not sure dude but i think THIS is the only cover thats 100% accurate ALMOST.

  • amazing cover i love it rock on bro

  • very nice cover man

  • What pedals do you use for Echo song may I ask? :) PLEASE REPLY! D;

  • @MeetyHam PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION! D;

    xD

  • awesome cover man, clean and your stocatto is bang on the money :) might i ask what camera & mic you used to record this?

    cheers

    mart

  • @Mpalmer00 Thanks! Recorded with my MacBook's webcam and built-in mic. (:

  • hey man awesome cover!! ive been planning to cover this for ages... but i have some incorrect tabs so i get demotivated, can u let me know where you got yours???

btw can u let me know how u reworked ur right hand technique :P cuz i know mine is fails but i dunno how to fix it... i play how is comfortable for me and when i tried the standard/advised method i feel uncomfortable and outta control

  • @rancidhotmail chek out ultimate-guitar. (:

Reworking my right hand technique was a pain. I searched around for tips and lessons for months without success, but I did found something valuable, but I didn't know how to incorporate it. I figured out that holding the pick and playing with a fist (relaxed, of course) increased my picking speed and gave me more control.

  • @rancidhotmail I also became more aware of how I was holding my pick. Thumb being able to angle the pick back and forth leaning on the side of my index finger. I started using only my wrist for picking (not my entire arm) to reduce tension and give me a lot more control and stamina. To succeed changing my technique I just strictly started practicing from scratch using these methods, but my technique changed gradually.

  • @rancidhotmail I still have problems reaching higher picking speeds using only my wrist, but I just keep practicing. Remember that playing slowly and gradually building speed (also slowly) AND being patient is the key... And of course time...

  • @BlisteringDDj sweet thx a lot for the advice man, illl give it a shot and post u if ever end up covering this hehe

  • You hold a pick in a weird way but HOLY SHIT THAT WAS AMAZING! Very impressive!

  • @MrIam1nsane Thanks! Yeah, I did. I completely reworked my right hand technique though, so it's much more natural (and better) now. ^___^

  • @BlisteringDDj excellent stuff - what amount of delay (in ms) are you using ?

  • @nsummers123 Description. It's somewhere around 400ms. (: Thanks!

  • Very nice. The best play of this song on youtube, other than paul himself. ;)

Yes, there were mistakes, but the delay really brings them out. The mistakes are far from as bad as you think they are, you did a wonderful job here. I'll be looking at your other videos in a little bit.

From a fellow guitarist who plays stuff like Guthrie Govan, Michael Angelo, Steve Vai, I need to say, I'm impressed. =) Keep it up.

  • @moondancer33 Thanks a lot, much appreciated!

  • serious vid! memorising it is one thing but how did you figure it all out? any tabs just have the first half of it like

  • Major props for memorizing this whole song!

  • pretty damn good. :D all i can say is that your sound was too bright

  • wtf

  • I played with Gilbert in my country, Argentina, in 1998 :) i will update the photos later :) cheers friend!!

  • very very nice playing dude! i have a line 6 spider 3 amp 30 watt what is the bpm for the echo? nob?

  • WOW!! I don't even say that very often! Very clean!

  • how much does a normal delay pedal cost?

  • this is great man!

  • Bautiful cover **

Can you post a vid whit the tutorial?

Sorry for che my bad english xD

  • very nice... like the explorer

  • just got my dd3 today, now i can finally play big sur moon with the correct effects. great video, you should try big sur moon by bucket head next.

  • If you see in my profile, you will see that I've already recorded Big Sur Moon. ;-)

  • THAT WAS AMAZING! Much respect to you it was perfectly executed!!!!! How could u memorize the whole piece!

  • Man... the memorizing was the worst part. I used several days to get it stuck in my head but I still managed to freeze up sometimes in this vid. Haha! Thanks for the comment! :-)

  • Very nice, almost like the real thing! keep playing :)

  • greaf!!!!MAGNIFICO!!!!!sounds pretty!!!

  • excuse my ignorance, but what's the difference between the DD-3 and the DD-7?

  • DD-3 has just the plain and simple delay effect and no tap tempo (which I don't need). The DD-7 has other effects as well as stereo output and tap tempo. I just really like the DD-3 for its simplicity. I don't need the features the DD-7 has to offer.

  • Tap tempo is really nice.

  • DD-7 is better. Google the specs or go to the Boss website to find out.

  • please teach me how to play that song!!!!!

  • Okay now I know for sure that Gilbert is Buckethead! This sounds soooooooo much like Big Sur Moon.

  • I don't see the similarity. The only thing these tunes have in common, is that they use the delay effect, but its not really the same delay effect. The compositions doesn't even remind of each other.

  • Gilbert taught Buckethead

  • paul gilbert was buckethead's teacher.. buckethead's name is is brian carol

  • im getting a DD3 soon is that what paul uses ?

  • I know that he's using a BOSS DD, but I'm not sure whether it's the DD-3 or DD-7.

  • thanks great cover by the way 5* im tryna lern this song but im only using my boss me-20 and i can wait for the DD3 to arive :D

  • its the dd-3, and nice cover man, but if you ask me just a little too much distortion, but amazing tone dude, nice job 5-5

  • omg how old are you?

    pretty amazing

  • Thanks! I'm 17. :-P

  • wow dude, that sounds sweet, cheers!!!

  • mate this is the best cover ive seen of this song, thankz for the dd settings they were a big help!

  • This is a very cool song.

    I hope to learn it when I get a DD7. :)

  • Yeah, it's awesome! (^_^) Takes forever to learn, as you might have noticed... Most of my mistakes were a result of me thinking too much about what came next, haha.

  • Too much gain

  • I disagree. I suppose you mean drive/distortion...?

  • I meant that this song is usulally played with a completley clean amp instead of the little bit of drive.

Also lower your treble a lil will help your tone.

  • If you listen to the album version there is a tiny bit of drive. I kind of overdid it though. :-P I didn't listen to the song before I dialed the settings, so I just fiddled around until I was happy with it. I think the tone is pretty good. (^_^) But, a little less drive and a little less treble/presence would've done the trick, I suppose.

  • damn good cover man ;D

you should record the audio directly to the computer so it sounds cooler haha

  • Yeah, but I didn't have my Shure SM-57 at that time, and I don't like using the XLR Output. ;-P

  • and ur really good btw =]

  • wait what is the song called? i cant find the tabs.... can u reply and put the tabs somehow? plz? thanks

  • It's called "The Echo Song," lol. On Ultimate-Guitar however, the tabs call it "Echo Song," but it's the same song. There's 2 version in ASCII, and 2 in Guitar Pro. :-)

  • Dude, i noticed very little mistakes haha. This is the best cover i've seen and it's one of my favorites so kudos!

All i have to say is, i wish i could alternate pick like that and stretch my hands like that. Looks like a tough song to learn. You should try to do a cover of "Curse of the castle dragon" :D

  • You'd be able to do it in time. Just practice your ass off, and you'll get there faster. :-D The song was a bitch to learn... I mean memorizing it, haha. Thanks!

I've tried to learn Curse Of Castle Dragon, but I still lack some syncronization between the left and right hand at some of the licks. I also lack some of the effects. I WILL become good enough though... I hope, lol.

Thanks for the nice comment, and good luck to you! :-)

  • HOLY CRAP!!!!! ten million stars. this is the only shredding i have seen on youtube that i really enjoy. 5 star

  • dude , you mastered this song!!!

  • Staccato!! So good try!!!

  • cool!! first time i ever heard this song. nice job

  • I love that Explorer, the shape is awesome.

  • wow, that was very well done

    congrats 5/5

    :)

  • amazing!

  • great stuff mate! love it...ill check all your over videos now :D

  • Nice picking!

  • Thanks! That was actually the biggest challenge with the piece. :-)

  • very good work

  • btw nice going

  • why would you mention buckethead . this vid is about paul gilberts echosong

  • ....because they use the same effect?

  • I have a question, how much does it cost?

  • The DD-3? On Musiciansfriend, $109. In Norway: +/- $200, which I paid.

  • wasnt big sur moon based on this? they sound soo familiar?

  • They just use the same effect (delay) on both songs. The songs are different, in my point of view...

And IF one song is based on another, then it should be the opposite (The Echo Song based on Big Sur Moon), because Big Sur Moon is from 1998, and The Echo Song from 2006. =)

  • Great cover, could you cover Big Sur Moon?

  • Sure! I love Buckethead! :D

  • Please cover Big Sur Moon ² !

You are a hell of a guitar player :D

  • how do you connect the dd-3 ???

    guitar-dd3-amp

    guitar-dd3-preamp out.

    sorry my english!!!

  • Guitar -> DD-3 -> Amp Guitar Input

  • thank you!!

  • good job man !

I've learned the whole song too... I'm practicing it..

  • Paul definitely got this idea from Nuno Bettencourt's "Flight Of The Wounded Bumble Bee" which uses the same 400ms delay. Check it out.. you will see what I mean. Still very cool though!

  • I've heard it. He's one of my favorite guitarists. If Gilbert got inspired by that song or not, I have no idea. :P

  • Comment removed

  • Wow man, nice :)

  • Skambra ;)

  • is this the ug tab??????????

  • Nope, I decided to put the tab away. I looked at it, but it has many mistakes.
