I remember this storm. We were without power for 3 weeks and had to cook in the cold in the back yard over a little kerosene camp stove! Had to heat pot after pot of water on it to bathe in - not good! We Arkansans aren't used to that kind of weather!
i didnt love it there were branches as big as trees breaking off for 3 days and nights us and all the neighbors had trees on our roofs and no electric for 2 weeks was it one or 2 seemed like 3
Try having a tree come crashing down right atop the room you're immediately in. This sent me literally running for my door. Over in Evening Shade here and the crashing trees kept me up all night.
how is this once in a lifetime? that happens alot even when i lived in illinois lost power for a week so dont say this once in a lifetime cause it aint
The old-timers of the area say that they have never seen anything like this ice storm, so in their lifetime it has only happened once. That makes it a once in a lifetime event.Yes, these things happen occassionally, but the magnitude of this storm was the worst in the past 100+ years for this region. 60-90% of the canopy limbs were lost. It is hard to comprehend the amount of damage. Parts of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas were far worse, Just sharing my thoughts, not slamming your comment.
people think, where's global warming now.. but that's what u get with global warming.. mostly ice, less snow, and severe wx like we just had in ctrl/s okla.
2012? I need to google this right away. This by any chance would be like in 1988 when there was a book released called '88 reason why Jesus will come back in 1988"? would it? ahh, I'll find out in a few minutes.
man, i would be sleeping through that. unless a tree hit the house, i'd be out like a lightbulb. course more than likely i'd be out working (firefighter) but it woudl suck.
I live in Jonesboro, Ar. Before power went out, a transformer started blowing, showering the iced trees with bright blue light and billions upon billions of blue fireworks-like sparks. I should have filmed it. I will next time. My pecan tree got hurt pretty bad. My neighbor's pine trees were stripped as if a giant hand pushed its way down the tree stalk stripping all the limbs off. Very sad.

At least the trees weren't exploding and yes trees explode under extreme cold. I would rather be there than here.

I'm in Jonesboro, AR. I've been here for a few bad ice storms but this one was the worst I've seen. The falling trees sounded like gunfire ALL night!
We are still cleaning up.

Ice storms are beautiful, when lightly painted on trees and bushes; not when they bring trees and power lines down and cause havoc on the roads. WOW.
