This is the tenth album by McCoy Tyner, & his 4th released on Blue Note. It was recorded in 1968 and the group's stimulating hard bop music pushes and pulls at the boundaries of modern mainstream jazz.
Peresina begins with a smooth solo by McCoy, leading to a hard bop melody statement by the septet, and Wayne Shorter's unique solo voice - perfect for this recording. The leader's hard-driving 2nd solo spot takes us to the group's re-statement of the melody. Great playing by Woody Shaw, as well.
This may be McCoy's best album.
