Bill and my grandfather Arthur Mineer are first cousins. My g.f. tuned guitars. His brother Brooks Mineer played fiddle too along with Ken who played guitar. Wish I had heard them play more.
Now, THIS is the RIGHT tempo to be playin Sally Goodin in. For my money .. too many younger bands these days try to do this tune way too fast. The tune is rightfully best performed in the old-time style .. exactly as per this posting. Mr Prater sure has the gift ...
@colindominy Yeah, that's what I hate. As the old timers fade away so do the traditions. All of the old fiddle contests and old time music festivals are young kids from the universities playing something of the likes of Trampled by Turtles. If you're not familiar with that band, look it up and you'll see what I'm saying.
Appalachians from the good ole days use to call a fiddle the Devil's box because it kept the young people out all night singing and dancing which would cause them to miss church the next day. My opinion is that playing like that would make people want to go to church. Do you play at church too?

I actually met Bill last Sunday night and my DH jammed with him in his garage. Not only is he a talented fiddler, he makes his own fiddles too!

Contemporary fiddle players need to watch this. great melody and a great bow lick. They don't make em like this anymore

Beautiful stuff. What great bowing. This video could serve as a wonderful lesson in playing real old time fiddle.

Boy this looks to me to be one of the most authentic videos of someone fiddlin' on YouTube. How old is bill? Can you get more video of him?
