  • 1:26 was great!!

  • the problem is that you throw a punch and bring your arm back as fast as possible.if i do a real fast punch like a wing chun practioner does nobody can grab me and throw me somehow.just look at the wing chun guys who throw 15 punches per second.i respect aikido but i dont know how realistic it is.

  • It stands to reason that if you can punch faster than I can defend, then I'm going to get hit. Even that, however, is really beside the point. You might watch this and think that I'm defending just the punch, but I'm not. Actually I'm addressing the attacker as a whole. I'm less concerned with the punching arm than the person's center of gravity. In the end, I'm not here to defend aikido. Everyone has their own preference. If aikido was perfect, there wouldn't be anything else.

  • You do have a point about fast punching. However, from a selfprotection pov, your big concern is armed attacks. And when it comes to armed attacks aikido is superior. After all the art was based on defending against swords and sticks and the likes. As Mr. Boaz points out, better than controlling the agression is controlling the agressor.

Besides, I have yet to see a skillful WT practicioner or boxer trying to beat someone to death.

  • Man that takes me back Gary. Reminds me of the old days. Good to see your videos up! Take care & God bless.

  • No doubt. Sometimes I really miss those days when the only thing we did was train...no bs, no politics (at least for us). I'm taking a 6 month break to heal and get in better shape, then I'm going to be doing some training...no teaching, just training!

  • Do you give seminars anywhere? I would very much like to take a lesson from you.

  • As a matter of fact, I do. In the last 3 years I've traveled extensively, mainly teaching a combination of pressure points, aikido & groundfighting. This year I'm taking a needed break and won't be doing as many seminars. I will be doing some seminars locally with a few in the Phoenix area likely. Where are you located bronson1365?

  • I LOVE doing Aikido outside on a nice day. There is something liberating about practicing outside the dojo.

  • one of my fav. moves too. this looks like AZ. I thought you moved back home?

  • This was shot one week before I left wonderful AZ. It was almost 90 degrees that day and the mats were blistering hot. You can see me wince on occasion. I'm now back in KS and it's about 50 degrees. Yea (heavy on the sarcasm).
