it never had a 6.5hp briggs engine @ asssface2000, it came with a 150cc GY6 chinese engine- i am building the same 4 wheeler right now with a Yamaha 538cc Electric start snowmobile engine, that should do it , lol
u said it was spitting out oil and it wasnt running right check the crank seal mine whent out and it spit oil out of it a lil and it wont run right if u dont have it
@origionaldz yeah but even then, it will blow up from overheating because its meants for winter. i dont care if u rejeted the carb, eventually it will fuck up a rig er two
@paratrev Been over a year, still running fine. The only thing this gearing does is put the engine into power band earlier, which means the engine isn't struggling as hard to move the weight.
@paratrev this dude has no clue what he's talkin about, we use snowmobile engines all year for ultralights and yes they are air cooled with no issue as long as there jetted right
as a proud owner of a 377 that thing should have ALOT more power! but unlike "calholli" said, a CVT system isn't meant to feel like there are gears changing unless there is a flaw in the clutching system. I have never experienced that even with 4 wheelers (yes some have a CVT), I've driven old sleds that have been properly maintained as well as some right off the show room floor and still never experienced that. And yes as everyone said, fool around with different prockets.
@462ccLiquid It has a lot of power and it still does have some speed. This video in the backyard doesn't show it stretching its legs. If we wanted more speed we would play with the gearing. But it goes through the mud and up hills so the power/speed is a tradeoff.
all you need to do is put a smaller sprocket on your axle.. or a bigger one on the other end of the chain.. OR BOTH.. whatever is easier..... . your almost there.... that thing could really fly with different sprockets...... the clutch system on the engine will act like it is shifting gears as you go faster... . you want your chain sprockets to be about the same size as each other!! . try it, it will make all the difference in the world... I promise you
Good but needs better gearing, or else put a motorcycle engine in, takes away all the complexity of worrying about a gearbox. a 2 stroke 250-400cc KTM YAMAHA or whatever engine... mmmm.... doughnuts.
Handling is still the same as the original. We did put shocks off of a raptor 660r on the rear to help cushion it a bit. But the power ohhhh man it takes hills so much better and takes off instantly.
ha I like the buggy Im pretty sure this was the kart i got my engine out of. I had my go kart at kidnmekarts and i blew my engine and some guy didnt pay for his so they kept his kart so they game him my engine and i took his. After the engine was out Mr. Tom gave the kart away.
Well, being that it is fan cooled means that it WILL be cooler running. You should probably tell homelite or sthil or echo to stop making fan cooled two strokes because they may run too hot in the summer too?
@origionaldz well yeah it wil stil perform fine, but what i think hes saying is that you lose some power. but its hardly noticeble considering its more efficent with ptting the power to the wheels, so its an even tradeoff
i used to have a 89 Safari with the 377. cooked a piston in it doing donuts on the ice, put in 1 new piston and rings. was a great sled until the throttle cable got stuck and I ended up rolling it on the ice. broke the hood all to shit.
Had a similar experience with this safari, was rolled so many times the body and all just broke down but the engine ran great. This engine has never been opened up, still runs great.
good job! that bomber box is originally geared to run a snowmobile track... i would pick up a odyssey 250 gearbox and toss that in there :) that way your power wont go to waste... imagine riding a ten speed in high gear.. you are peddling really really fast with no resistance.. but the bike doesnt move.. better gearing and the motor will do less work.. and you will have more power to the wheels! :)
if you don't get that geared better your going to end up blowing the engine you almost have no load on the engine, i,ve built a couple carts with sled engine and had them so they will do 100km your not even getting 50 it seems
Trust me, the way it is now it has plenty of power and speed. It walks right by other buggies. Power band doesn't really kick in till about 5-6000 rpms anyway.
your probly gonna have to get a bigger sprocket welded to obtain the wanted speed and take off.... if not you wont be really useing your powerband very well and it will just rev out
sled engines are ment to rev out, they have a centrifical progressive clutch so that the higher rpm, the more speed, its like the gearing on a mountain bike when you get going faster you shift to taller gear thats what the clutch is for
Kinda sluggish

I would not have used a fan cooled engine because it will run too hot and won't perform as well as in winter cold temperatures.
