@mshartz5 ooooooo....And???????????? I'm not a gadget geek so whatever!!! I still think its stupid!! Nothing you say will change that! Tablets are nonsense!!
Well it is nice to be able to work outside or at a different location other than home and not have to haul around my laptop with the power adapter, praying that there is an outlet near where I decide to sit.
I wasn't going to get a tablet until they were as capable as a netbook. This is as close as they will probably get. By using remote desktop, I am able to anything a laptop can do, but can do it for triple the amount of time.
@mshartz5 You have point on the laptop battery life, but I'm still not sold! Besides these tablets are moving more towards laptop capabilites......???.......back to square one.
@swagger87unknown So Does Your Capitalization Of Every Single Word. It Makes You Look Like A Fucking Retard. Your Grammar Needs Some Work Too. Look How Annoying It Is To Have Every Word Capitalized. Isn't It Fucking Annoying?
@swagger87unknown Nice comeback. It hides the fact that you don't know what else to say. Your words are completely irrelevant and shows how dumb you are.
Awesome product. But this was a fucking terrible presentation. Why couldn't they get someone better to do it? This guy has no charisma, no charm. Stupid Asian.
@BoxxyFan I kind of felt the same way about how awkward it was, especially when you compare it to the Nintendo or Xbox 360 E3 presentations. Who really cares though, the guy probably just learned English a week before the presentation... I doubt many people could learn Chinese, and give a presentation which fully appeals to their societies ideal of a proper presentation.
@SuperbD2009 Windows 7 on a tablet is like tying a 2 ton weight to an Olympic Sprinter... It's going to be supper slow, and require a lot more expensive hardware to do the exact same thing. Asus has a tablet with an i5 that runs windows 7, It's $1000, and slow as hell! Android can do just as much with 1/4 the hardware!
Plus you can system link to a more powerful/less portable windows machine at home, and be able to run windows on this tablet from anywhere you get wifi (with android software)
@bigfisher42 Here's the justification for these drawbacks:
Only android: Android is designed for tablets, so it's way faster! Also, you can use android software to link to a windows machine at home, so it's like you're running windows on this!
Only 32GB: You can plug in an external flash drive, or external hard drive... easily 1TB+
Only 1GB ram: again, you don't need more, it can play 1080P!
No 3G: Your really want to get in a $60/mo contract? plus, it might support a usb 3g dongle.
what do you mean "link to a windows machine at home"? using VNC?
I feel like if i buy a tablet/pc, i'll want 3G support yes. And i know i could plug a 3G thing on it but... well you know, it would kinda waste the beauty of the machine.
like "wow, what a great tablet you have"
- thanks!
- but what's that little thingy coming out? his penis?
@bigfisher42 But don't you WANT a larger "3G card" lol.
Well you don't have many options if you want a tablet with built in 3G (pretty much ipad or xoom) , especially with a keyboard/touchpad attachment (though I have seen an aftermarket one for the ipad). You could get one of those 3G/4G bridge adapters, and connect to it via WiFi, but I'm guessing that might be too inconvenient for you as well lol.
And yes, I was talking about VNC, it's always been a perfect alternative for me.
@bigfisher42 Actually... I just came across an article which said there will be an optional 3G module built in, but it's on a UK site... So hopefully there will be some 3G models when they release it, or shortly after :)
@bigfisher42 Check out the video on youtube "Eee pad transformer home review Asus part II", the guy explains the different video playback. AVI and MOV will definitely work with the stock asus video player, and as far as MKV he says it's a software limitation, and that eventually there should be an Android app which will support that video type.
Well, i think i'm almost totally convinced. Do you think that if i plug a Blu-Ray player, i'll be able to read Blu-Ray on it? (then plug the computer to my TV in HDMI to read it on the TV?)
@bigfisher42 I imagine it would handle an external USB 2.0 bluray drive, since it can also handle external hard drives. And if that's the case, then yes, you would be able to go from the bluray drive, to the tablet, to a tv via HDMI.
Another (better) option is to get an internal blu-ray drive and install it on a desktop, connect that desktop to your network (preferably wired lan or wireless N), and you can stream to the Asus tablet anywhere in your wireless network range & to any hdmi tv.
@WotTehPhok Lol... so true! I doubt Apple's dominance will last much longer, especially once people begin to realize that Android is not only better, but doesn't come with the Apple shackles.
@managarm1349 I'm a teen and I want an android tablet. I think the correction is ::: iPads are for 16 year old girls that have parents that overuse credit.
Doing a bit of research, asus usually gives ya a case, the battery life is 8 hours if its out of the docking keyboard, and 16 hours in it, thats turned on and using time, Not standby. ive seen it using standard honycomb, which isnt what this vid is showing. this is showing android 2.2 with asus overlay, they wont be shipping like this.
They are available for pre order at Amazon in the UK, says it will be available on the 18 of Feb i believe, im pretty sure this will be my first tablet.
I've been reading that LOTS of Motorola Xoom owners will be returning it for this tablet since most of them are still within their return policy window.
So far the advantage of this should be: better screen display, detachable keyboard dock (cheaper than the stupid Atrix laptop dock), and a working microSD slot (Xoom's doesn't work).
Ok guys so this looks a great peace of kit, ive had ipods etc so familiar with the apple quality , however i dont like their pricing and they have too much of a control thingy going on. So ive pre-ordered my Transformer from Amazon which is due mid April , but hell where are all the accessories like screen protectors and wallets, nobody mentions anything apart from whats in the box, cant find anything on the web so im guessing as yet their is bugger all?
what ever asus says about battery life just cut that number by 1/4 and that's the real battery life when screen resolution is set at 50% so battery life is actually 12 hours and remember that's using crapola android not an OS
The Asus Eee Slate is the same thing but with no docking keyboard and the slate has Windows 7. The slate has 4.5 hours of battery and is one of the first tablets to support flash 10.1. ( The slate rocks the others not so much )
@codebooker the eee slate cost twice as much and is pretty much a mini pc with a touch screen, if ya get the 32gig version, you will only have around 10gb free space to actually put anything on it, also the battery life sucks, i like the slate, but if was gunna spend that much money on a pc, i would just get a small laptop for half the price. The only reason im gunna buy an eee pad is to make my ipad2 mates feel like twats for buying apple junk ;)
@fjc36 Then just install a Linux distro and Open Office or Libre (something like that) office. Very lightweight, and does what most of Microsoft Office does, but for free.
this looks pretty interesting! If I needed the keyboard, I would buy this one. But I'm going to wait for Galaxy tab 10.1 on the market, that would be the staff for me.
Question about the Transformer: Can you run Win7 parallel to Android with AND without the keyboard? So in both states you can change in seconds between OS's? Please reply if anyone knows. Thanks =)
@N45HcH As of right now, current Windows 7 OS isn't compatible with ARM and Tegra, as far as I know. But Microsoft is actively working on it all the time, and it should be possible soon in the future.
@theodor70941 I guess you missed CES 2011. Tegra 2 is a NVIDIA product, and NVIDIA is partnered with Microsoft. You can search up Windows 8 arm CES and find the videos showing Windows 8 running on multiple ARM systems, including Tegra.
@N45HcH this is an adroid device, its basically like a big android phone without the phone, like the ipad is just a giant iphone without the phone, neither are able to run real PC os's.

Android OS? I mean, could i install Windows? I like Android but i prefer Windows.
