It may sound sad, but most people won't take a five dollar hamster to a vet for medicine that would cost 40 dollars. I took my (11 dollar) parakeet to a vet and got it 50 dollar medicine and it still died. my mom was pissed, so usually it's a waste unless you're unusually attached to it...
