  • Is this the same guy who plays the rock accordion???

  • @technocrash09 i don't play accordian at all! might be cool though.

  • @jazzvibe I'll try to find the video and share it with you. The guy is totally awesome!

  • @jazzvibe Accordion guy = Uwe Steger. Check out "It don't Mean A Thing" by him. It starts slow but give it a chance. the guy can definitely make the thing dance!

    peace

  • yo tone!...c'mon man...you're killin me!!!

  • This is amazing! I've never played a vibraphone but I play the flute and I think that I probably never do what your doing! All I have to say is that you are awesome and that you are a great role model to all musicians, even people that aren't percussionists!

  • YOU'RE AMAZING DUDE!!! I'M A PERCUSSIONIST SO I KNOW HOW HARD THAT FREAKIN IS!! BUT IVE NEVER PLAYED A VIBRAPHONE BEFORE!!! IVE ONLY PLAYED BELL SET XYLOPHONE AND MARIMBA

  • @Jijiloca99 yo DUDE! thanks so much. you have to get on a set of vibes! they're the most fun!! and malletKat is a lot of fun also!

  • We jam out in Albion every other Friday night ... C'mon up next time your on vacation, we'll get you some real lobster and have a jam fest of a friday night ... we would work right around your stuff .... I'll have the bass player and drummer learn your bass line and drumming! - L8terz Kit Kat! - Darrin

  • Don't you ever say 'pretend' to be a rock guitarist again, your doin' it and I would put you in the ranks of Halen, and Joe Satriani ... I found you a little over a year ago when searching for Vince Guarldi - I have an accoustic (home arrangement) of Christmas time is here on my youtube page. I've playing electric for twenty years and can't shred like you can on those kats man! (well maybe a LITTLE shredding after a warm up and a beer! - I like playing funk & Jazz and you'd blend right in.

  • @darrincates hey man. that's nice! thanks for the encouragement. i'll check out your christmas tune. i love that tune!! btw - let me know if you're ever in philly!

  • You are a rock GOD! - I found this video a long time ago, loved it, lost it, and just found it again today after over a year thanks to subscrition updates! Upbeat, forward motion, and makes me want to dance .... . Do you want to come jam with my rock trio band in Maine?

  • @darrincates i'd be nervous to play with a real rock band. but maybe if i'm in maine, who knows!!!! regardless the malletKat is really cool! and i get to not only be a vibe player but i can pretend to be a rock guitarist! i love it!

  • Very Cool!! Gotta Check out the New You Tube Video: THE WORLDS GREATEST VIBRAPHONE PLAYER - VICTOR FELDMAN. No wonder Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers and Elton John to name just a few had Victor Feldman enhance their recordings.

  • @jjjjazzzz victor feldman is my favorite vibe player! the arrival of victor feldman is my favorite cd!

  • ahhhh the golden ages of rock and roll

  • I literally watch this video every day after I shower....its a good dressing soundtracking.

  • Soundtrack*

  • My son was unsure if he wanted to play the xylophone in band but like me after watching and listening to you...simply amazing sounds and technique

  • @cuzinbigred thanks cuz

  • what sound module is on your kitty KAT?

  • @QWORD1 i'm using apple's logic for the sounds here.

  • I own the malletKat mainly because of this video. I saw this video last year, and bought my own malletKat, to do things like this. I wish I was as good a vibe player as you. You are a genius man. Thank you so much.

  • @RebelliousToast yo man! i'm glad you bought a mallet kat. i wish i was a genius but i'm not. just practice hard and you'll be kicking ass on the mallet kat soon enough!!!! it is a great instrument, huh? let me know when you post a video up here!!!

  • @jazzvibe Oh i got a bunch of videos up of me! even one is all just malletKat! You can check it out.

  • you are absolutely amazing.... i wish i could be as good as you you. i'm only a junior in highschool though, but amazing job

  • @holyhell937 yo holyhell! thanks!! that video was a lot of work to get it that good. and even then there still are mistakes!!!

  • @jazzvibe where could i get a mallet cat like that? i would love to have something that i can use to practice at my house, but a marimba might be a bit too big for that haha.

  • @holyhell937 go to alternatemode d o t c o m

also if you play vibes go to vibesworkshop d o t c o m there are 1500 vibe players on there!

  • @holyhell937 also if you really wanted one, i can get you 425 bucks off. the owner is my buddy!

  • @jazzvibe thanks man!!! that would be amazing! i just need to get a job so i can buy this lol. do you write music by chance?

  • @holyhell937 yeah i'm not a composer, but i write tunes that i play. look on my youtube page for 'song for meg'. i wrote that. much different than this piece. and check out vibesworkshop d o t c o m. you'll love it if you're into vibes. even the free part is totally cool.

  • @jazzvibe i was just curious because i want to play a vibe solo or maybe a duet for something at my school and i really like your style. it would be really cool if you could write one for me

  • @holyhell937 well if you subscribed to the vibe site, there are etudes up there already. when you subscribe to the site (costs a few bucks) all the lessons are there for you and i have etudes that students all over the world practice and play in recitals.

  • @jazzvibe ok awesome :D thank you so much

  • OMG i so excited ok like im not that great yet but im gonna put somethin up here on my kat that im gettin soon and i wanna jam wit you omg

  • this needs more views

  • I got one o' those too! WAY easier than dragging a set of vibes everywhere, and simpler to amplify!

  • You are an inspiration to us all! Come to the University of Delaware and do a master class!

  • i am!!! i think the 24th, right??

    you gonna be there?

  • You are SHREDDIN' UP A STORM! Awesome work.....Soraya International Entertainment Agency

  • i checked out your belly dancing! great stuff! man you were shaking it!!!

  • @023854300

Do you even know who you are commenting about? Go ahead and google Tony Miceli. He could play circles around you and most any other mallet players. Don't make ignorant comments if you don't know what you're talking about. And if I'm wrong, post a vid showing your skills. I'd love to see your Yellow After the Rain mastery.

  • Amen! Tony Miceli is a true mofo! Check him out! Go big T!!

  • I'm not a mallet player, but my friend Chuck plays a Musser set in our group, like yours in your other video.

I have always like mallet players such as yourself - the tones are killer.

Our tag line is "FEEL THE VIBE"

We meet Gary back in the 80's at Berkley

I'm sorry if I upset you, he is a genius at

what he does.... he just came across like

that - instructors can be harse especially if

    you create clams! LOL!

Milt Jackson is another of my favorites

    Cheers...

  • Go Kat Go

    awesome

Burton is an asshole anyhow - gripping the mallets any style you want, it doesn't matter - just like the difference guitar players grip their picks. keep chopping dude - a breath of new life!

  • well you shouldn't say that about gary. he's definitely NOT and asshole. he's actually a pretty cool and helpful guy.... and an pretty amazing musician. any way i glad you dug the vid. it was hard to make!! you have a kat?? you a mallet player?

  • AWESOME !!

  • Musser is still the best....this dude sounds like he is tuning up his guitar. That is not what a marimba or vibe sounds like. Wonder if he knows how to read music. Couldnt even watch is all the way through...annoying!! Marimba is so beautiful as is vibes!

  • yeah i know how to read music. and there are a lot of great instruments out there now. playing on a vanderPlas this weekend in the Netherlands. It's a beautiful instrument. and the mallet kat is really cool also. IMHO

  • I'd have more respect for this guy if he weren't using the Burton grip. Ugh..

  • well you better pay more attention. i'm NOT using the burton grip!!! what grip do you use?

  • who cares

  • @punk979 Whats wrong with burton grip? I've used that grip since 6th grade...he's clearly using stevens.

  • not using stephens. it's the burton grip with 2 fingers in the middle

  • Doesn't that fuck with your range? Seems like it would be hard to keep octave position, or one handed roll. I guess if thats how you learned, you're prolly good at it.

  • @KingKrooked

the grip gives you a wider range. it's a cool grip!

  • Oh lord, this dude plays his ass off; Never heard nothing like it before on the vibes. YOu go due!!

  • what's the deal with the musser-burton grip hybrid?

  • good eyes! there's a whole story behind that. way back in the day, i went and saw gary burton play. i was pretty high (back then) and that's how i thought he was playing... so that's how i play. victor feldman plays like that also. i dig it. you use the burton grip??

  • thanks.

yea, but i'm sure that once i go off to university they'll have me play musser, as i'll be playing a lot more marimba.

    great video, by the way.

  • depends what university you go to. you should play the grip that feels best to you. but anyway, good luck in school. where are you applying?

  • @jazzvibe well, i've applied to Laurier, Waterloo and Toronto (in ontario, i'm not sure where you're from), but i'm pretty sure i'll take a year off, and figure out a little better what i wanna do.

  • i'm in philadelphia, pennsylvania. good luck with the schools!

  • @jazzvibe thanks

  • this video makes me want to go to a corner and cry

  • After I was blown away by your Vince Guaraldi vid, and now I watched this one ... I've never seen or heard anything like that before in my life .. amazing talent ... when are we drinking beers together?

  • Where can you get it?

  • how much does one bassicly cost?

  • about 2300 dollars. they're pretty amazing.

  • Does anyone know where I can purchase one of these and make payments on it? I am a college student and think this would be great for my apt. vs. a full sized marimba but don't think I can muster the 2k+ at once, you know, bills and what not.

  • you should get a loan then you'd pay that off. right?

  • holy shit where can i find one of those? that be perfect for practicing in my dorm

  • it's made by alternate mode and it's called a mallet kat. it would be perfect for your dorm and it expands to 5 octaves.

  • alternatemode srry

  • hahah! YEAHH go TONY!

  • I think that there is pretty neat.

  • you're having way too much fun lol! love the effects (crowd, lights). keep up the good work!!!!

  • Great jazz and playing. You named the video perfectly. I really enjoy this video and have watched it numerous times. If there was one thing I could suggest it would be can the canned crowd noise in the background. Also, I would like to know if you have any CDs available? I always liked the vibes but this Mallet Kat takes things to another dimension.

  • wow, you're pretty good at that mate

  • is that an electric marimba????so cool :D

does it only have that guitar setting?

  • it runs off my laptop and there are 100s of sounds there! it's pretty fun to play!

  • Ok well then I recommend not closing your eyes!

  • nice to watch but if i close my eyes it just sounds like a bad synth guitar. great playing though

  • Hi Tony,

    Very cool, haha!!!!

I'm saving up for a malletkat.

    Greetings,

    VinnieVibes

  • yeah they're fun!
