@CalumnMcAulay The architecture of your computer was not put together based on a set of fleeting feelings, but through careful reasoning and inference. Feelings as emotional reactions, reflect intuitions rather than reason, shortcuts to common sense, they are part of our evolved psychology which successfully got our species to where they are now over millions of years. We live in a different world now than we did 10,000 years ago.
@CalumnMcAulay The question is when or when not to base decisions on feelings. I don't think Max is suggesting to subjugate feelings for reasoning across the board... I am watching the video again to try to find where you got the impression that Max did suggest that reasoning has superiority over feelings...
If you google up the blogs which deal with the "paleofuture," like Matt Novak's one at the website of the Smithsonian Magazine, you'll get some perspective on how badly humans suck at "futurology." The real year 2012 certainly doesn't resemble all the sales jobs we got about life in the 21st Century from the last century's science fiction.
not relying on feelings ? Why should we subjugate our feelings for reasoning and who is to say that reasoning has superiority over feelings?
