  • Bright, intelligent and interesting interpretation! Thanks to Doug for posting and Tamara for sharing.

  • Sergei Rachmaninov is a unique performer for me. First, he is interesting in his every performance. Second, he plays always with marvelous taste. And third, he is never afraid to put much of himself in the piece, i mean his rendition are extraordinary personal.

    Thank you, dear Doug,for posting.

  • Thank you, Doug. Beautiful performance. Maya

  • 1:30 to 2:10 has Rachmaninov finishign with fast rising arpeggios, then ultra fast, first note forte descending arpeggios which are stunning. Makes the pulse beat faster. Great recording and interpretation by R.

  • @TheEclecticity

    Thank you!

    All Best..

    Cheers, etc.

  • I've heard dozens of recordings of this piece, and Rachmaninoff is the only one I've heard who can get away with playing it this fast without messing it up. Great!

  • excellent! *****

  • BBC Music Magazine has recently voted Rachmaninov to be the greatest pianist of all time. Though Horowitz and Richter are stellar, worthy contenders for the title (and I also enjoy them both), personally, I would go for Rachmaninov. He is a wonderful interpreter not just of his own music, but also of Beethoven (unfortunately he left no recordings of his piano sonatas), Chopin, Schumann, etc. This Debussy is simply scintillating. Many thanks for sharing, Doug.

  • thnx :)

  • just great!

  • so cool!

  • Great Stuff, Curzon!

I'm playing this, and who else to listen than Rachmaninoff?

  • Wow...

  • he has totally changed this piece to me

  • excellent record! excellent scratchiness, excellent Debussy, excellent Rachmaninof?...I did not know this was even recorded!. treat.

  • Scratchiness is hard on the ears but the virtuosity is interesting

  • To record collectors the "scratchiness" is hardly a problem, actually enhancing the magic of communication. Does this sound crazy? Truth is stranger than fiction. Cheers, etc. Doug --

  • Wonderful! I like the film noir setting. Did Rachmaninoff record any Medtner, Glazunov or Myaskovsky?

  • CurzonRoad, Wonderful piece. I loved the look of the clip as well. It's a refreshing view.

    YF, J.
