  • That's awesome!

  • Can someone tell me how there can be any thrust above 100%? I don't understand...

  • @Hornadayfan I think that is because 100% is the rated thrust of the engine, meaning the thrust that it produced during its testing. Probably this day the engines performed a little better.

  • @Hornadayfan The initial design was at 100%. The improvements over the years made them better.

  • @Hornadayfan The engine is capable of throttling between 67% and 111% of its rated power level in one percent increments... so 100% is not the the max thrust available, it's a given value determined during the development of the engine, so it's one level of thrust... the engine can operate safely at higher values (like 104.5%), but higher than 104.5% can cause engine failures...

  • it reaches commercial aircraft cruising speed in about 38 seconds after launch

  • all engines are controlled explosions

  • Anyone notice that before the shuttle launches the thing has a slight change is pitch, like 5 or less degrees

  • @RoboticTable Yeah, that's normal. It's called the "roll maneuver": I believe it's to better align the shuttle to the correct path into orbit. When I went to the Kennedy Space Station, they told us all about this. It's a pretty awesome place! :)

  • @NorthEuropean I'm talking about before the thing launches. The roll maneuver is when the shuttle is in the air. You can notice (barely) what I'm talking about between the main engine start-up and the SRB ignition. But yea the KSC is a pretty amazing place, you can't disagree there :)

  • humanity should spend more time in things like this rather than fighting all the time

  • @meDJSIRIUS Spending money on this make people fight each other even more. cancel every program of nasa and give money to the poor by eliminating certain characteristics of poverty and the world will be perfect !

No immigration . little mizery, no economic crysis.

  • @HONDAEGYPT You really don't know anything about economics do you....

  • @kamakazekiwi I know, It's you who doesn't know ! You must be blindly fascinated about these super maximum expensive Nasa programs.

    Nice !

  • @meDJSIRIUS Sorry to burst your bubble but fighting all the time is what lead to this. Rockets were mostly developed to deliver bombs and the shuttle was developed to deliver military satellites.

  • what time was it juring launch?

  • I can't get enough of 2:37

  • More or less, at T+7:44 All the speed, mach, range and acceleration get censored.

Is it because the sensors are shut down or because it is classified information?

  • @Stover36 It was an issue with the older Spacevidcast ascent scripts. We fixed the problem after this flight and made the data a LOT more fluid. Also made it so if there was one error in the data, it wouldn't trickle to other areas like it did here.

  • @Stover36 No, it is not classified.

  • I'll be that was a spectacular sunrise viewed from the flight deck.

  • april 5th is my b-day what a surprise

  • The woman doing the commentary after launch needs whipping...

  • Awesome...

  • What happens to the external tank? It seems to high to fall from orbit.

  • @pettyofficer30 The external tank is'nt designed to be reused, it vapourizes upon rentry. The ET basicly gets destroyed and a new one must be built for each STS launch. The only reusable parts of the shuttle are the solid rocket boosters and the orbiter itself.

  • Are they below sea level on the pad? It says -23ft

  • 0-912 mph and sea level to 8½ miles in the sky in 1 minute.

  • @420hih Think thats impressive by the time it reaches space it is moving at about 5 kilometers per second.

  • That's a thing of beauty. Launches at night get a 10 out of 10 every time. To bad NASA let that program close out. Hopefully the Russians figure out what went wrong with there last launch. It would be a shame to de-man the station after ten years of great science.

  • What is that smoke coming out of the tail at 1:05?

  • @manny999999 NVM XD and its amazing how it travels 1500+ MPH... o.o Im like.. :O SICK!!! i kinda want to see the inside while lift off. :)

  • 2:27 !!!

  • i havnt even watched the video yet and i posted this

  • what happens when the rocket breaks off from the shuttle, it just drifts off into space. isnt that a waist?

  • @iweedman12 Lands in the Atlantic where they are picked up and re-used. There's a video on Youtube with cameras on board each of the boosters so you can watch their entire trip from launch to landing in the ocean.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

  • The space shuttle. What a joke that thing was. Originally promised to deliver $1,000 per lb payload into space. 1970's design. Actual delivery was $10,000 per lb. Original design did not include solid-fuel boosters (dangerous, cannot be turned off) and did not include the giant external fuel tank. That thing looks like a high school science project. All that crap tacked onto it. The Space shuttle COULD HAVE & SHOULD HAVE been what is now the defunct X-33 SPACE PLANE. Where is that now?! Gone.

  • breaking the sound barrier at 10:26.

  • I wish I could've witnessed a space shuttle launch!

  • what are these lights flashing on the craft at 4:37 ?

  • 3:45 maximum dynamic wave : )

  • /watch?v=fKJu6R43ShU&feature=channel_video_title

    space shuttle start

  • Are the particles floating near the orbiter starting at around 6:20 from the flash evaporator system?

  • You guys Hid the specs in the end :D guess you don't want people to know at what speed you revolve in space and your altitude xD

  • up to 3 G's thats really not bad for reaching the escape velocity.

  • wowo that was really good .. and great job also...

  • @gurungsan8 wow :)

  • This compilation of videos "UFO Disclosure A Global Deception Conspiracy"

ON YOUTUBE is a revelation of major lies and with held knowledge about life

beyond Earth. The footage contains statements from astronauts, American

presidents, military personnel, politicians plus credible news footage regarding

awareness of life beyond Earth along with it's current and ongoing presence which

is being hidden from the public + more.

  • @Futurecop2012D kill yourself, you'll be doing something useful for the planet for once

  • when i was a child a very old men said to me that men will only go to moon or out of this world only with the help of JIN. and seeing the big flame i almost realised how true he was. jin are made of fire and if you assume that fire to be living it is just as if it is carrying the shuttle on its shoulders. this is back in 1950

  • All of that weight that gets lifted off the ground is pretty amazing in itself, what sort of liquid components does the rocket thrust contain please?

    Thanks.

  • OMG Mach 24.7!!!! 16,817.58 MPH!! That is amazing, almost unbelieveable. For me, watching a space shuttle launch is mind blowing.

  • spacevidcast what does the "beannie' do?

  • i remember this like it was yesterday, was watching the launch from the KSC, 5 miles away. it was the most amazing event i have seen in my life

  • You sir, have won yourself your own private internets.

  • Good thing President Obama canceled our space program, Now we will have more money to build turtle tunnel's and offer illegal immigrant's full health care coverage!!!!! OH HAPPY DAY'S!!!!!!!

  • @awalls36 Whats wrong with turtles huh huh bitch!

  • Mach 24.7, holy shit!

  • This makes solving differential equations worth it :-)

  • That was absolutely incredible. This is the coolest video on youtube, thank you for sharing.

I wonder how quiet space is? And I wonder why I'm not an astronaut.

    12K mph lol wow.

  • Listening to "Heart of Courage" by Two Steps from Hell while watching this. Most EPIC thing EVER. 8D

  • Exactly one year ago today.

  • i know what i want for my birthday

  • why they white out the speed and stuff at the end?

  • They need to find someone who can speak without stuttering so badly. It's aggravating.

  • i have a rocket in my back yard

  • G-Force 0

  • gdyby wszyscy ludzie myśleli tylko o seksie to rakiety spadałyby nam na głowy

  • over 20.000 km/h

  • Why didnt the launch pad weaken or melt in all that rocket fuel?

  • @Psy0psAgent Because there are 300,000 gallons of water dumped on the pad by the time the shuttle clears the tower. It absorbs the shockwaves and helps cool the pad.

  • @spacevidcast And because the platform isn't metal, for the most part, but concrete. In the same way that the deck of an aircraft carrier or the launch blocks don't weaken when struck with jet fuel, the surface of the platform is built to handle heat.

  • @spacevidcast How many launch pads did they go through dialin that one in? lol

  • Only if the Wright Brothers were alive to see this. They wouldn't believe their eyes

  • Awesome thanks for uploading!

  • Word to the wise.....if you have speakers with a sick bass system to go with it, I recommend you do NOT have it up loud like I did. Scared the crap out of me at 6 seconds!!

    LOLOL!!

  • awesome at night time!

  • whoa 10 times faster than concorde

  • I WAS THERREEE

  • 1 g? seriously?

  • I would never ever go up in one a those things not with all that fire and chemicals to make it go

  • 2:51 sounds like he said "porn space station"

  • we gonna miss it :(((, thanks NASA

  • Ddpopoya or what ever there ending the shuttle launches into space there's to more and thts it cause Obamas a retard and ended it

  • I missed it! Wasn't there problems that held of the delay? I did not hear it on the news much. Thanks! When is there return?

  • Why are they ending,? Please someone tell me

  • What's the CO2-emission on a vehicle like this?

  • @codeweldsweden its not co2 coming out of the exhausts its actually hydrogen gas or steam

  • Damn, Mach 24,7 at the end there.

    That's pretty fast...

  • maximum dynamic at 11:12 03:45 at 01:01 mach 2

  • 03:41 fuel critical deactivation .. & nice halley comet dynamic force ay und freud error theory capability contine functionning

  • T+ 55sec

    sonic boom!

  • I stayed up all night to watch the live feed of this, and it was amazing! I was even able to see a slight glimmer of the launch from Auburn AL around the T+3-4min mark. Really wish I could have seen a launch in person.

  • i love watching shuttle launches. one of the single most awesome & captivating sights on earth. there are so many questions in my mind...

and i'm just watching Discovery's last launch on tv, coincidentally.

  • @D3ADPiXELS Despite the lack of an official cold war, I would expect that certain maneuvers and associated data might still be something NASA wants to keep private.

If there is something secret about a launch (type of satellite or other intelligence gathering practice), the government would not give away any clues to interested parties.

The game is still being played.

  • that was a wearing heart-warming google ad that played after the video was finished.

  • woah, broke sound barrier at 3:41

  • @stinkykyle96 That's not actually a shockwave. It's some sort of unexplainable long-range videographic phenomenon. They break the sound barrier at about T+45 seconds or so. It never takes more than that to hit mach 1 unless one of the main engines has to be throttled back or shut down early.

  • @spacevidcast That is weird...but is the video and audio in sync? Perhaps it is due to the throttle up.

Still and all, very cool to see such detail.

  • @stinkykyle96 if you look at the lower left corner it tells you how fast they are going when it hits Mach: 1 they broke the sound barrier

  • Ready for Thrusday the launch :)

  • These comemricals are waisting my time in life.

  • @gafalcon7 There's a difference between waist (the thing near your belly) and waste.

  • @spacevidcast Been watching spacevidcast I got a little nervous when Steve Bowens suit was found to have a leak. Be happy when they are back on the ground tomorrow.

  • @gafalcon7 ingnore spacevidcast I know what you mean, I hate the adverts they spoil the enjoyment . Still it is a sign of the times I suppose.....................a step backward

  • I AM PROUD OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

  • @D3ADPiXELS because only chuck norris can go that high in the air

  • hay you all did you no that they drop 300 .000 gallons on the pad to reduce noise

  • @lukas2643

    Yep, i knew ;-)

They also install water bags in the SRB exhaust holes on the launch table to reduce the shockwave that nearly ripped off Columbia's body flap on STS 1.

  • @lukas2643

    Ah, and btw.

    watch?v=9LehY5avJUM

This is how it looks like.

  • @lukas2643

If they didn't, the shock wave caused by the sound bouncing off the pad and back towards the orbiter, is strong enough to damage it.

  • @mailtrap22 STS-1 was heavily damaged due to the sound suppression system not flowing enough water. The body flap on the orbiter was deflected beyond design limits. Had Young and Crippen known of all of the issues with the launch, they would have performed an RTLS.

  • anyone know what the flame coming from the launch tower at 1:22 is?

  • @Hoffy490 It's a flare stack about 600 ft behind the launch pad relative to camera angle. Burns off vented hydrogen to keep a very dangerous atmosphere from building up around the pad. Oxygen and hydrogen don't get along well, so they route the hydrogen away from the pad to burn and prevent uncontrolled explosions. The sparklers seen at T-10 serve the same purpose; they ignite to burn off any H2 as well, so that unburned O2 and H2 don't make an uncontrolled explosion. Would damage the SSMEs

  • @spacevidcast ah i see. thank you

  • 3.20 thats like my asshole after i`ve eaten a chicken curry...

  • wish I had one...

  • i saw this when i went to orlando at wet "n" wild :P

  • brrrrrrr *goosebumps* The engines OMG!!! This is even cooler at night!

  • @PowerGrooveDrummer: It's their shorthand way of telling everyone that, at that particular point in the shuttle's take-off, they still have enough resources to go back to Earth and make an emergency landing in Zaragoza, Spain (a pre-designated site) using only one engine, should something go wrong.

  • 1. Go to T minus 37 seconds.

    2. Start video and Justice's "Genesis"(from the † album) at the exact same time.

    3. Collect jaw from floor.

  • @huggkruka

haha i did that. Really fits in well

    nice catch ;D

  • @huggkruka Made it even more exciting! Nice mix!

  • @huggkruka hah love it haha

  • @huggkruka I actually did that and it was pretty cool ahah dam

  • @huggkruka

ha ha ha nice, i just tried that and it syncs well :D

  • @huggkruka that was awesome :P

  • @huggkruka WTF MAN UR A FUCKING GENIUS!

  • @huggkruka

Nice, it just stops after the SRB seperation. Nice Sync.

  • @huggkruka That was way rad! Thanks. :-)

  • @huggkruka nice!!!

  • @huggkruka Awesome!!!

  • @huggkruka very good timing

  • such a beautiful sight. So much effort put into making it all happen

  • @D3ADPiXELS Speculating here: That might just mean "no data" or an error. If you look at how the values update from top to bottom, those numbers are simply "updated" with white squares. So it's likely the data stopped being sent since they're now in space. (could be some other explanation - this is just an educated guess)

  • Mach 24,7 = 29477 km/h O_O

  • to for you. to j fr. JULITTA

  • its amazing how it doesn't look like it's moving when it's going at 4,500 mph (5:50)

  • press the red cc below right in the video then transcribe audio.. i laugh so hard at the subtitle XXD

  • space shuttle launches are one of the most amazing things ever.

  • This was the most gourgeous and fanastic shuttle launch I've ever seen. No, really, this was beautiful. Oh, Discovery, you seem to be having some camera problems. It's a shame that the shuttle series is almost over, though...

  • 16905mph

  • It's like new years eve, except with more firepower!!

  • yea boy

  • Impressionante ver a capacidade que Deus deu ao homem para criar espaçonave que vai ao espaço e em altíssima velocidade! Deus abencoe cada vez mais.

  • This must be one of the most AMAZING things to watch live and on site.

  • очень красивый корабль-жаль что программу закрывают по моему это ужасная ошибка или злой умысел очень нехороших людей!

  • @D3ADPiXELS Because none of this actually happened. It's a hoax. Filmed at Disney studios. If you look closely at 7:13 you can see flashlights appear and quickly disappear: those were stage hands from another set who mistakenly walked into the wrong room.

  • im abseced with astronamy and is AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the g force was wrong it really about 9 gs and ive been to nasa and friken almost flipped shit when we could go to the lauch pads because the spaceshuttles were there and i was so dawm disaponted but i got to see thisspace shuttle in the repair bay and the building is so big and i saw a crawler witch brings the shuttle to the launch pads.

  • Commander Poindexter...

    *snicker*

  • @D3ADPiXELS It set to 0, just a display bug

  • @D3ADPiXELS For Security reasons.

  • @1floss1 Nah the launch pads have sound suppression systems in place, which serve a dual role; absorb vibrations caused by the shock waves caused by the energy released by the rockets, and absorb a lot of the heat. Not all of it though, there's always some damage after each launch. They don't need to rebuild new pads or launch platforms though.

  • Smoke a bowl then listen to Pink floyd-the great gig in the sky and watch n mute the video. I had a beautiful experience. try it

  • Thank you for posting this, me and the family saw this from around 6 miles out, just fantastic.

  • @RollingScot67: Right after the SRBs are jettisoned the shuttle main engines cannot sustain the weight of the whole shuttle. As Scott says, they dive a little to gain speed while burning off more of the fuel. Within a minute the weight drops to the point where the SSMEs can push for space. Watch the Gs climb as it accelerates.

  • i never get tired of watching these launches!!! amazing stuff!

  • what is the stuff spraying out of the engines about 1minute before the launch, is it water?
