This is why you hear of some many pit bull attacks the dogs are doing what they are purposed for. If you know anything about guard dog no matter the breed they make bad family pets.

@YouToobWatcher3 Yes there are many backyard breeders. But the sudden burst has only been in the past decade late 1990's. There are to many reputable breeders world wide for the breed to be changed. And a lot of bad pitbulls have been euthanized. The pit bulls are the only breed, breed specific to be loving and be non-aggressive toward humans. Which is what the illegal breeders made sure the kept, so they could handle them. The only problem is the dogs aggression towards other dogs.
@ProphetGuardian I agree, and I think it would help if you needed a license to breed any dog. Maybe follow guidelines similar to the German Shepherd Club of Germany. In that club you may not register dogs unless their parents are titled in schutzhund. In other words only dogs that have proven they can perform should be bred. If you put bad in you get bad, we should focus on improving breeds.

I've noticed locally a lot of dogs have had several attacks before being euthanized. My neighbors lab attacked 2 adults, was let back to her and attacked a kid...The dog finally was euthanized. 2 attacks could of been prevented. But all the pits here locally (I work at animal regulations) get euthed if they attack.

They are allowed to roam, I can't even walk my around my neighborhood because the lab and pug are dog aggressive. Animal control won't do anything unless I get bit badly. Better regulations, and suspending owner ship of dogs for people with dogs who have attacked would help too.

The more we paint these dogs as vicious attack dogs the more people will use them in fights, because thats the type of dog a dog fighter will target. It's so sad that as soon as the negative stereotypes of pit bulls drop, another breed will be under attack.

I forgot where it was located, but there were people offering free training for pit bulls in an area with a lot of dog fighting. They were teaching them that dogs don't deserve to be fought, and they can be your partner in success. My local shelter has started two groups for younger kids, they help raise money for the shelter and during meetings they often talk about abuse, and using dogs for the wrong reasons.
