Something about the way the recording equipment and engineering is set up for this orchestra that makes its sound more effective. Or something about the way you are uploading your sound files. You and the other person who posted to youtube the TV broadcast of Salonen's conducting the Rite of Spring.
Please share your secret with youtube, because the video files of their own new orchestra don't come off as well. And that's even with my using &fmt=18 on their videos.
Hmm..I used that JPEG compressor on Final Cut..not sure what I did..I think it's probably the Disney Hall acoustics that are captured. Because when they record, there are very little microphones, and they're all like..20-30 feet high. The sound is always very good because the Disney Hall's acoustics are the kind that if you whisper into somebody's ear, somebody else 30 feet away is most likely gonna hear exactly what you said. Something about the weird angles make the sound travel really fast.
If you want to hear how the way a vid is recorded or uploaded can make a difference to the quality of its sound, check out the vid of "Vertigo - Scene d'Amour" posted by jimnyc62, and "Music of Bernard Herrmann - LA Philharmonic" posted by gab1279. Both are from the same TV video of the LA Phil, but the audio on jimnyc62's isn't as good as the one on gab1279's.
Either it's the orchestra, or it's Salonen who's able to make every single part audible, even when it's not important, while other conductors let certain passages slip away because the other parts overpower them, but Salonen somehow knows how to balance everything so perfectly and you can hear every single part so clearly, and also, the Disney Hall really helps with that. That's why Jazz musicians hate the Disney Hall, they can't hide their mistakes, they're all exposed! :P

Add &fmt=18 to the end of the link in the toolbar! It makes the audio sound SO much better!
