Oh man, respect for this idea. Very cool. I got a freecoaster in my street-BMX and maybe this would be a good solution, cause the coaster is only working, when you push the pedals back a bit (this "bit" is adjustable of course). Would be cool for spin-tricks with riding (or more rolling) backwards after. I don´t want to talk big, i don´t have it now, it´s just an idea for people, who ride better unicycle than me. Peace. :)
looks really hard to balance, I have such a good idea though...Take that same unique unicycle, and make gears like a bike, so you can pedal slow and go really fast, then if you want to hit a jump going really fast just coaster for like .5 seconds and then fly through the air.
Modifying this one would be quite difficult since the coasting mechanism is in the hub. Jeff Baker, who died a few years ago, used to ride a modified bicycle with the front fork cut off, so he was essentially doing a wheelie whenever he rode. Below is a picture of his contraption.

So yeah, the best way to do what you described would be to either modify a bike or to take a bike hub and a derailleur system and make the necessary modifications.
I don't know if having the pedals flat makes it easier, I'm just more comfortable with one on the ground. And I took the video a few days ago, so I'm not much better than I was.
If I get pretty good at it, then I may have to see how well the wheel fits onto my Torker DX frame since that frame has brake mounts on it. I probably won't be worrying about that though for at least a few more weeks.
