Great vid, I have a C-180.... I looked for one of these AND a C-190 when first released... Roland tries REALLY hard to sell these in the US..... NOT!!!!! I JUST found out about the C-200 and C-230 "released" this summer and apparently already discontinued.... They might as well advertise "Not available in the US" it's the truth....
I can see why that they sold only ten of these. I wouldn't want one as a gift. Problem: no electricity, no sound. For the money, I'd rather have a nice continuo organ by Klop than one of the phony organs. Nothing beats real pipes and tracker action! It's worked perfectly for at least 500 years so no reason to change it!
@baxter5431 You're exactly right...there's no point in changing or trying to improve anything. This earth existed for thousands of years before we had the internet, phones, computers, electricity, the organ, the piano, and pretty much anything we're used to today. I say we ditch it all and just go back to pre 18th century. LOL
Is this model entirely digital? Because if it is, the pipes are there just for show and they do not rather make any sounds. And if that's the case, what is the point in adding them?
@mzg87 It's entirely digital. The pipes are a facade. They definitely make it sound more convincing when you see pipes in front of you. They have speakers positioned inside them that dcause them to sound and resonate to some degree for added ambiance.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful instrument with us. Roland comes through again with a quality product. I have their digital harpsichord/organ and love it! Its keyboard is under computer control and all the touches it simulates are very realistic.
I think that the reverb is great, but I see that there is a limited number of voices available. I would not pay very much for an organ with limited number of organ voices. I hate digital classical organs that are limited to just being a pipe organ. I want more, synthesizers, drawbars and Leslie effects. Now Lowrey is getting into the church organ business as they have two new church models.
Organ builders hate this crap, but it just might keep some of the fingers of youth playing.
So when is Roland going to tackle the Wurlitzer Orgatron?
Does anyone know what exact model ( or even close) organ John Winters plays on the Mount Vernon Music MVM161 record 'Organ Moods- John Winters at the Mighty Wurlitzer'?
I make the real version of this kind of instrument, and, naturally, it sounds pretty dreadful to my ears. What I hear is a distressingly similar version of the genuine article - like an embalmed corpse compared to a living person. The false reverberation and the tasteless 'choir' sounds make me feel ill. Having said all this, I admit that others will think differently, and this kind of instrument has its place, and, of course, you can make music with it. So good luck, but it's not for me.
@OrganoAeternam A fair point, which I cannot deny. (But let me know if ever I can supply you with something with a blower and pipes!) Best wishes ... the Offshore Organ-builder.
@Offshoreorganbuilder I agree. I am not an organ builder but I play the organ and this one just sounds electronic to me and I don't like the reverb at all. The pipes in each rank sound the same tone as the ones adjacent to them. I use the computer program Hauptwerk which is far better, this Roland one does not come even close to that. Again I suppose it is a neat unit for home practice but then it does not even have a pedal board and only has one manual.
ok - thanks -- that is a really nice sounding instrument -- just think what you could have played if they had set it up with a split-keyboard registration (like some of the earlier pipe organs) -- I think they missed an opportunity on that one ... have you tried the C-230? I'd love to hear that hooked up with the C-280P unit ...
I hope you make some more recordings -- you play very nicely !
HI Britt -- I noticed that there is a Split Point settig as well as an octave shif -- is the split point for the bass only? Or can you split the keyboard and play for example the 8' Nason Flute in the lower part and the 4' Spitzflote and 2 2/3 Nazard in the upper part? I would love to hear a demo of some of the split keyboard combinations if that is possible ... thanks -- a really neat instrument!
I saw your ad on Ebay sometime ago. I tried to find it today again but I wasn't able to. My question is: did you already sell this organ? If not, do you still have interest to sell it? If yes, please, send me a response. Thank you in advance. Dib Franciss
A positive organ (pronounced "positeev"; also positiv organ, positif organ, portable organ, chair organ, or simply positive, positiv, positif, or chair) (from the Latin verb ponere, "to place") is a portable one-manual pipe organ that may be moved without first being disassembled. It was common in sacred and secular music between the tenth and the seventeenth centuries, when it was used in the performance of basso continuo parts in ensemble works.
Britt: So great to see this video. I have searched for one of these for years. I have written Roland and Rogers; both have responded that they have no idea what organ I am speaking of. I even sent them photos...but got no response. It's almost like they don't want to claim it. but it is a delight. I'm still going to keep searching for a used one!
What's that song you played from about 2.21 to 2.33? I've been wondering for soo long, so it would be quite helpful if you (or anybody) can tell me...
Wow! Never heard of this before... Thanks for the great video! Live and learn on YouTube!!!
