I really think McGovern's true high water mark was her brilliant portrayal of Evelyn Nesbit in Ragtime. She absolutely nailed that role, in an incredible characterization of a beautiful but hollow and vapid woman, one whose looks inevitably invite trouble and bring ruin to almost everyone it touches (while she always floats away just when things begin to turn ugly).  I still see her in that final haunting dinner party scene where Evelyn -- still gowned and gorgeous -- sits alone and bored.
