Oh yea well beat this, I run a Femco KFV-40 that has a 15 second chip to chip tool change!!! And to top it off, the rapids are 590ipm and the max spindle speed is 4000rpm and with all this I can cut at 150ipm in a linear motion but at helix only 60ipm!!! lol. FML.
@wccti i think the brother might have the dt-1 beat in terms of total change time. the dt-1 doesn't seem to have a very good brake on the spindle and takes a while to spool down before it goes to the, admittedly very fast, changer; even with drill bits. the brother seems to go straight to the changer as soon as it finishes a cut.
@lexichronicle2 - yeah, the brothers accel/decel pretty much instantly. I wonder if they have a hydraulic braking system rather than the three-phase regen brakes that Haas uses...
All those machines, however, use a chain-type changer. An overhead carousel changer, like what Fanuc uses, is faster with random changes than anything using a chain.
The fastest I saw was a Makino apparently 1.3 secs chip to chip. That was at Hawker de Havilland in Sydney, machine shops not there any more though :(
OK, not as fast as Brother, Robodrill or Mazak, etc...but the fastest I've worked on. Thanks for the update. I now run a HAAS VF7, which is slow as...
I am pretty sure this machine is the Mori Seiki NV5000. Pretty fast, but I've seen faster. Definately not the 1.5 second chip-to-chip that some of the Mazaks can achieve.

i currently program and run a brother tc-32b. a blur is the only way that the tool change can be described!

i ran one at my last job and it was the most rigid vertical mill i ve ever used

search for the haas DT-1...it's one of the fastest currently!

Awesome speed, amazing how the drawbar can release so quick. Very impressive

Hydraulic Releaser can be fast as you need. But I don't know why manufacturers still using BT and ISO unlike HSK. Is about high prices?

@ecapatto
I say if cost wasn't an issue, everyone would be using BIG Plus.

@wccti it could be as simple as the size of resistors and capacitors they used if they're both using electronic brakes; which I expect they are.

Mori Seiki SV-50, the previous series of NV-5000 in this video, change tool in the same time.
Makino Aseries change faster: tool-to-tool 0.9s

I run a Matsuura LX-0
We asked Matsuura to come in 2 weeks after installation to slow the damn atc down - you can't see it move it is that quick.
Too fast - linear motors too on all 3 axes - no chance of hitting E-Stop if you make a mistake.

The tool change is around 4 sec.?
I also notice the table does not move during the tool change. Can you program the table to move at the same time the machine is doing a tool change?

nothing beats the Fanuc Robodrill in tool changing.....

Yeah, fanuc does that pretty well.

we just got a robodrill and it seems like it'll be a great machine! tool changes are sweet too
this tool change seemed standard. watch the vid here on youtube: "watch this fast CNC machine" by brothersocal...

not quick enough in today's mfg world. Try a Brother 32B.
