This video has nothing to do with Ira Glass. Your title is deceptive. No need to be deceptive to get your message out if it doesn't matter what everybody else thinks of your "truth."
Ten Advisements ("Commandments" sounds too bossy!) 1) Be trustworthy 2) Be fair 3) Be happy 4) Look at the past only for the good you can find there 5) Hold the present in your hands with contentment for that is your treasure 6) Look to the future only for the good you can make there 7) Give with grace, feel the reward inside 8) Accept what is given with grace, let others have reward 9) Do not worship anything 10) Do not believe in the supernatural
So his complaint, as I hear it, wasn't that TAL is a "bad" program - his whole agony was based around the idea that they "made him look uncool." I'll point out that they did this with his own words, in his own voice, so he is really just using this as a springboard for his "acceptance" theme. I don't hear it as a complaint against the show at all.
Also, there's no "run-in", and Ira Glass is not involved in any substantial way, so the title - while attention-grabbing - is a little deceptive.
Why are you so awesome ? I LOVE listening to u ! being a college student I just love how cool you are ! No kidding ! Usually I end up listening to really old fashioned priests and pastors and their opinions are sometimes hard to grasp in today's world. You bring a new generation opinion to Christianity and I LOVE it. God bless ! Keep up the great work !
Praise God for this video...it is exactly what i need to help me deal with my struggle in witnessing to my family and friends...i usually give end up telling them a watered down view of the gospel in hopes of trying to convince them but then I realized, without discernment and guidance of the Holy Spirit, I wont get anywhere...God bless you brother :)
Do you think that if Jesus--the Prince of Peace--came back today, he'd pump his fist in the air and shout "USA! USA!" and cheer on America's troops in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Acceptance is indeed the balance point of the emotional see saw with which we must all contend. Is it the approval of the messenger or the result of the message? We who suffer can approve of the messenger as well thus our approval for Jesus Christ as well as His message. Humility is found in the limitations of our own message to affect healing among one another. Though knowledge has traveled a long way since Jesus' time the faith He taught still lights the path ahead.
WOW. Switch "Gospel of JC" for "Alcoholocs Anonymous" and I feel and believe exactly how he feels. Wow. This Pagan really loves your message in this video.
I hate when you like someone and then it turns out they're a nutjob either way. Christians and Atheists can both shut the hell up and let me be Jewish in peace.
I agree that our message should not be dictated by what we think the public would accept or appreciate, but I think the responses you've given to people who have commented on this page are the most disturbing. You may not have to tailor your message so it will be accepted, but giving quick retorts to people brings you to their level.
Good point, gourmetlunch. I was trying to engage people but when I reread those comments they did come off as glib. So I removed them. Thanks for the feedback. All the best.
This makes me want to vomit. Ira Glass is a greater being than this guy can even comprehend. I haven't heard the particular episode, but isn't the fact of the matter that this dude put out this recording of these sentences that he wrote? Why is he so deranged and so harsh on Glass for featuring his own work. It seems to me that if he takes shame in his production, he ought consider to cease and desist.
you are a sorry example for a human being,,,,you really should consider going to the taliban ...they would enjoy your self righteous attitude....I have yet to see a jesus freak who is normal
huh, I didn't feel like he was specifically referring to TAL when he spoke about a world in rebellion to God. He spent a while first talking about how much he liked TAL, that it was enjoyable and well produced. I felt like it was mostly a setting for his discussion about the desire to be accepted and loved by the culture. He didn't set out to slam TAL, and I didn't come away from this video thinking "huh, I'd better stop listening to TAL if I'm going to be a good Christian."
genuine love for all people and their stories, and uninterested and unappreciative of a man who spreads hate in the name of spreading his word. Turning that word of love & acceptance into a word of hate and mockery, is the real "rebellion against God", if you ask me.

I don't think This American Life is a part of a "rebellion against God." Actually, I'd say Jesus would be extremely interested and appreciative of a show that brought attention to every day people and their stories in effort to unify them and make them feel connected to their "brothers and sisters."
And I think he would be extremely uninterested and unappreciative of a man who condemns that show, a show with good intentions and
We are our own worst critics. I missed the episode that your discussing. I assure you though, that in the eyes of your friends, family and G-D, you don't appear as you imagine you your work was broken down and used on the show. Most people mean no harm. Consider networking with Ira, doing a show that relates to taking things out of context. You could affect change at TAL through your own experience with them.
"Rebellion against god", lmfao. What a ridiculous cliche that falls on its face with just a little thought. And yes, you are a crazy, whacko, fundamentalist, etc. Best of all, I know who the goofball character in "There Will Be Blood" is based on, YOU!
There are issues with Ira anecdotal documentary style, he tends to treat individuals as characters and not people. Its fine for writers to treat people as characters because they write fiction. Its disturbing when a film maker or radio host edits someone and presents it as real. How does one defend themselves from a false original writ large? You make an excellent point and this is coming from a non believer.
You begin by disavowing the clips that were used as inaccurate representations of your message & then argue that the obstacle to overcome is the need to be accepted for what you believe. According to u, the excerpt was not a reflection of your beliefs & you suggest that had as much to do with your words as TAL's editing. Maybe you reacted so strongly against your own words because your message is fundamentally flawed.
Yeah Josh you are cool! I really like your new look with that little, how do you call that? Uh.. Well, actually I've just grown a beard recently too. So every one who has that too is cool to me! ;) Actually I also start to look like Jesus more and more and well He is the coolest! Except it is my inner being that needs to look more like Him, not my outher being! :D
lol i loved this message when i saw it at creation.your messages are truly God spoken and flows right out of your mouth.not many people talk about the cost. for example , "foxes have holes ,birds have nests, but the son of man has no place to rest his head." that verse really describes the life a true believer will experience with the world and all the evil in it.
