I don't agree to abuse in prison and leaving them there 2 rot. Those r humans 2, even if they made the wrong choices in life. I believe in 2nd chances & mercy. But I also believe in punishment, paying for crimes that u commit
I think it's safe to assume the three escapees drowned but you've got to hand it to them - they made it off that godforsaken torture camp. Their lives were virtually over anyway and they would have died nameless and forgotten. Going out the way they did, they made a name for themselves and brought attention to the prison's injustices.
The Marines should have stormed the island and killed everyone of the occupiers who refused to go peacefully. They were patient with them for almost two years and look what happened, they destroyed invaluable pieces of US history. Shame on them!
Some prisoners still spend 23 hrs a day in solitary. It is too dangerous for them to be put in general population. And most prisons segregate by crime.Child molesters are kept together away from others. The other inmates would murder them,as in the case of Jeffery Dahmer.
they found out that putting people in total isolation made people crazy, and the prison was deteriorating, so they closed it.
but they still put people in total isolation and dehumanization. and people are still going crazy and end up taking medication in prison in the US.. so i guess they didnt learn their lesson. or maybe they think medicating the inmates is the answer...
would you want to live next to a guy that spent 8 years in isolation, with mental problems? they do get out eventually.
I think you have some Ghiradelli chocolate in your shorts too. You write the same stupid shit on each part of this video. Are you retarded or just damaged from bouncing off your boyfriend's headboard one too many times? I'm thinking it's the latter.
What evidence do you have to support your claims? AIM members were known to destroy buildings in protest quite frequently. I suppose fake indian infiltrators also ransacked the BIA building as well huh?
The cause of the fire that burned the wardens house and damaged the lighthouse was never proven. The Indians on the island agreed to let the authorities onto the island to inspect the damage if they would turn the electricity back on, which they never did. The FBI had infiltrated the occupation with fake Indians, and they had removed the water barge from the island, so when the fire broke out all the Indians had to combat the flames was a bucket brigade.
There are several serious inaccuracies in this film regarding the Indian occupation. The leadership on the island may have changed, but several of the original occupiers stayed until the end, and the vision and the goals and the demands never changed.
The Indians did not burn and pillage the building on the island. The government destroyed the remaining buildings that were used as apartments in order to deter any further occupation attempts. They also systematically trashed the living quarters of the Indians occupiers, then they let the media on the island and told them the Indians did it.
To this day, NPS Rangers on the island continue to inform tourists that the heaps of ruble on the island are the remnants of the buildings destroyed by the Indians during the occupation. This is a flat out lie and they know it, yet they continue to misinform millions of visitors to the island every year. I have heard this lie repeated with my own ears, and many Native people have told me they were told the same thing when they went to the island and posed as tourists.
@ojib62 False. Stop trying to make the park rangers look bad by spreading lies. The GSA tore down the apartments and the rangers will tell you this if you ask. The rangers on Alcatraz are very fair when it comes to talking about the occupation.
I dont understand why they burned the buildings. They made our people look bad and ruined a part of history. There was some people who didnt want any part of it and they said there where those there that just wanted to fight, and would not reason.
By the time this kind of stuff happened, the Indian Occupation has lost it leaders and it had turned into a camp of bums and druggies with no political agenda at all.

I think they should build a modern prison on the island.

When they closed the place they should have just left the prisoners shackled and locked in their cells to rot...Fuck 'em.

Can you tell me the actual name of this documentary please? Thank you.
teyla08 1 year ago
@teyla08 The name is actually "Alcatraz 1934-1977."
I first saw this in 1983 when I was in 9th grade. I got lucky as hell when I found it a Major Video in 1995. I still have it.

All it took was one arsonist; perhaps that individual had no political leanings whatsoever; who knows?
