if he would continue he would have been in Koskela's way, and disqualified. Going from outer to inner lane has by rule advantage over going from inner to outer. So morrison had to wait, which costed so many time, he saved his energy for another day and stopped. It maybe doesnt seem like a big issue, but having the feeling you have to wait costs 10th's of a second and you can't afford that in sprintskating. By the way, if the colided, and i think they did, morrison would have been DQ'd anyway
i dun get it... why did morrison drp out? why not koskela? it dusnt make sense... they couldve both skated a good race right? is it a rule that the outer lane is prior to the inner when it comes to the first turn in 1000 m?
Outer lane always prior to the innor one and since Morrison would have been disqualified if he didn´t let Koskela pass him he had to stand up. Since 1000 meter is a sprint distance it was no point in continuing.
I dun get it. didnt the guy in blue start ahead? since they didnt switch lane in the first round i assume that accounted for both turns disadvantage right? after that is a race, why on earth do i have to let u pass if im faster??
lol I know im missing somethng since the guy did stop but well, im puzzled...
The blue guy starts ahead so that when both skaters have done their first curve they will have skated the same distance. Since this was after the 2nd curve the guy in blue had skated a longer distance and that´s why they guy on the inner track had to let him pass.
They have now changed the rules so that it´s the guy with the highest speed that has priority, but in normal cases that is always the guy on the outer track anyway.
Well, the skater coming from outer track has the priority. Do you have a source that back up your statement about the skater with highest speed got priority? If they made a rule like that, how could they enforce this rule since it isn't easy to determine who got most speed.
In this case Morrison had to let Koskela go. If he hadn't, Koskela would have been disturbed and Morrison would have been disqualified. Too bad, I think Morrison would have made a good time.
When this movie was made the rule i was discussing was not made yet.
Last time i skated at an international competition (somewhere in November) we got this rule explained to us. However, i have not been able to find any official statement that the rule was changed so i don´t know.
From what i got explained to me this was introduced at the same time as rule 256 (You may under not cross the inner line of the track (previously you could do it if it wasn´t intended to "Shorten the distance"
Cool vid. Loved watching it on tv. Too bad for Morrison, think he would have skated a good race as well. So too bad he didn't have the speed to cross over before Koskela did.
Morrison droped because Koskela need to change in front of him....and they were equal...and if he didn't let him change he would have been desqualified
Pekka Koskela went straight to the top. Who could have expected, nobody, now anything can be expected.. next goal 500 meters.. below 34 seconds. Just do it !
totally of limit

They even said Mika Poutala was way better then Pekka.. uhh, right xS
