I used my yari ashigaru outside of my wall after watching this. It actually worked amazingly well even though they didn't have any cavalry (aside from general). It allows the archers to fire a lot more arrows and so even though the ashigaru outside of the wall died, the enemy army routed as soon as the scaled the walls. Also, the few that survive are in the perfect position to charge the archers after their melee line is defeated!
Nice video! Placing the Yari Ashigaru outside the wall like that is something I should try. I only have one castle of that size at present. I am about to start a war with the Takeda (I am Date), and I will be depending on my Ashigaru units to support the Samurai and protect the home front.
