it's sad that one or two stores give the whole chain a bad name. i know myself i work there and my petcare team is amazing! we're constantly bringing sick *what sick animals we have* to the vet. i've seen more than one person fired for failing to care properly for the animals and give them the vet perscribed medications and care. my store is a stickler for animal care and control! this is just a sad sad store.

i work at petsmart and we take damn good care of the animals in our store. if any animal was even remotely put at risk by an associate they would be fired instantly.
now as for this video it only shows close ups of a few hamsters and a rat but nothing indicating that they were mistreated by petsmart or even in a petsmart.

Funny the lady at my petsmart told me not get a rat from them for this very reason then we swapd pics of our rats lol for an hour so sent me to her breeder to get a cheaper! and Healther new rat for the pack and we just love him!
I got one of my three rats at petsmart. He was completely unsocialized with people AND with other rats. He had been in a cage by himself. Rat owners know how traumatizing it is for a rat, and now I have to house him separately because he is not well behaved. I love him, but if ANY of the people there understood rats, this should NOT have happened. Shame on them. The location was on long island, you would think they would know better.

My cousin worked there for a month to check out the rumers, and it's true they are backrooms with many sick and dying animals. She was ordered to take some baby hampsters outside and kill them, because they were sick. She couldn't do it to them so she put them in her pocket and went home. She raised them but only 1 of six lived. Please DO NOT buy the live animals from there. Thanxs

My hamster died of wet tail, i think my other one has it too... i got them both from petco... all they do is sleep... they wont eat or drink... it's very sad.
@saradomingod611 wet tail is very curable wet tail happens to a hamster when it is too stressed. if your hamster has wet tail it will NOT eat and get very dehidrated. you can buy medicin at any pets store, u usually put it in the water and your hamster wil be fine after a week
All animals get illnesses. All animals die. It's not necesarily the shop's fault, all though they could seperate the ill from the healthy to prevent disease. Most of thoseanimals were probably purchased from a "certified" breeder. The ones that are just out for the money. Although the shop shouldn't purchase from them, how are they suppose to know exactly if it's a REAL certified breeder that cares for the health of animals. BTW, you keep showing the exact same pictures. Not much to show there.

This depresses me. Although i highly doubt that these are actual photos taken of pets in petsmart, i do have to say that anyone who can leave an animal like that is rediculous. I work at PetSmart and we have an in-store vet. AS SOON AS a problem is noticed, the animal is brought directly to the vet. At our location, our petcare associates truly do care of the animals we have. those who are hired who dont seem to care, are very quickly gotten rid of! that simple.
I never went to this store before O_o Well, that means im not gona get pets there. I recomend you guys to get pets from marc maron.com. They have a whole lot of pets their, but they dont have much dogs or cats. They treat their pets extremely well.
I worked at a PetSmart for 3 months...it was one of the highest rated PetSmarts in the area. I was forced to quit because our manager was incompetent and I would not stand for it. Three rats went with ear infections untreated. The infection got to their brains and caused them to self mutilate. There were also at least 3 hamsters with wet tail in the back room at all times as well as malnourished leopard geckos. I reported them to regional and nothing was ever done. Shame on you PetSmart.
just go to you local pet shop thats not Brand named and buy pets that are DONATED to help from pets being MAILED in boxes like these rats from petsmart. if you buy donated pets your helping from over euthanizing the over populated and unwanted animals.
I purchased two rats from petsmart. They came home with lice. I called the store to tell them they had rat lice and even told them how to treat it. Treatment for every rat in the store would have been $3 or $4 - all of them, not per rat. But you can't sell them as feeder rats for a month after treatment so they opted not to treat any of them.
I was heartbroken once at the pet store. I asked to hold one of the hamsters there, and they let me hold a Syrain. I saw something on his mouth, and I asked the staff what it was. Turned out it was it's tooth. It was overgrown. They put him in the back room. :(

Right? Like I'm telling this person, not all Pet Smarts, & other pet stores are bad! Some are, sadly but I'm pretty sure mine isn't. I've had a Robo dwarf hamster for 2 years now, & I got her from Pet Smart! Same with my two chinchilla's!
I got 2 rats at petsmart in Savannah, GA. I've yet to have any issues with them but my tan/white dumbo is for the most part blind. But no health issues so far. There will crappy stores once in awhile specially with chains. I figured out the pet store close to where I live, not even a mile has the best cages, prices food and treats for my 2 rats. I would have spent 150 or so at petsmart for a 3 level cage but spent 90 at local petstore for the same cage.

Petsmart is a major client for small animal mills, where animals are forced to breed in horrible conditions, and live their lives miserably until they're shipped off to a Petsmart somewhere to be passed on, unsocialized, to the masses. Each time you purchase a pet from Petsmart, you're validating the existence of a mill.
I'm pretty sure my animals...aren't sick. If they were, I'd know they were from mills. You're assuming, every Pet Smart is bad? When, their not. People think Pet Smart is horrible, when it's really not. Yes, I'll have to admit some Pet Smart's don't take care of them of how they should, others do take care of them & want to. I know some one who works at Pet Smart, they know where the animals came from. I just got my chinchilla & they got her from a real breeder, same with the other animals.
all the hamsters in this video have wettail. i work at petsmart, and alot of the time we get hamster in with wet tail, some can never recover. its from stress. it happens. its nothing that we did to them
our pet smart is clean ..... i work there and ii secretly examine the pets before putting them up for sale . i purposely buy it so i can take the animal to the vet and get proper treatment . then i basically give it back . i take good care of them with fresh veggies i buy (the ones that can have veggies) but yes , some people don't care as long as there getting rid of the animal and get money . its quite sad and dissapointing ...
well i can see were this is coming from. I buy from pet smart. They do sell hampster,snakes,birds,bearded dragons. Those are the main things they sell wich do come from a place similar to a puppy mill. But they adopt out cats. They used to take in puppies and adopt them out Spayed and everything. They stopped doing that in NC for some reason. But im sure in some places they may sell puppy mill puppies im not sure though. I do not agree. BUT petsmart offers 30 day health guarntee on all pets.
I'd say just about every hamster pictured in this video showed wet tail. Unfortunately, it is very contagious and can be rapidly fatal. It is very common in any pet store and they try to take preventive measures to help keep all animals happy and healthy. Petsmart also isolates and medicates any animal that comes down with wet tail.

Petland is more likely to abuse animals and put them down, look at all the lawsuits (civil and criminal) against them. PetSMART on the other hand is a publicly traded company on Wall Street. If they didn't have strict policies in place regarding animal handling and if animal abuse ran rampant like they do at other large-chain pet stores the shareholders can easily dump everything thus ruining the company's net worth to the point where they file for Chapter 13.
Also, I worked in the specialty and aquatics dept. and in the grooming dept. and they make their employees go through more safety training and safe handling training than ANY other place I have worked. Even when I have worked with foods that humans eat. It's mandatory that employees handling ANY animal at all must be properly trained and knowledgeable about that creature. At least our store made us.

This video may not have lots of proof, but there is actual video proof that Petsmart suppliers are corrupt. Animals should be left to the small, friendly neighbor hood pet shop, not to big chain stores. The thought of that just says "disaster". And, obviously, it's become quit the disaster. They have a great selection of pet stuff, but I'm pretty sure that actual animals are not their thing.

No one puts them down. you think that there is a little room in the back somewhere , where a person smashes their heads or administers a shot that kills them? I know personally that most employees do love animals and you become very compassionate towards the hurt and sickly ones wishing that they would get better and find a home , only to come in the next day and find thier little lifeless bodies and it's RARE but it happens and it's a big let down. I know, i worked there 8 years ago.
i think what is cruel is how small the cats cages are they need more then 2 inches of walking space i think all that was there was a box and food and the cages were hardly anything
The cat areas at petsmart are from your local animal shelter. Many Petstores offer their space and service to these animals so they won't get euthanized. they are well tended to as best as can be allowed. It's either kill a perfectly good pet or let it be in a smaller cage until someone is compassionate enough to share their home with it. Technically all cat and dogs adoptions are run solely by the local animal shelter. They don't have to let the chain stores have the cats.
Could be worse they could be at the pound getting euthanized of on the street with illness and disease. The cats at our store are always looked after. AND they have pillows and a ledge to sit on.

Hamsters are not left to "suffer" first off...especially not to wet-tail...it is the most common illness in rodents and it is caused mostly by stress such as shipping. The same photos were shown again and again...and the last photo of the gerbil with part of it's head missing was from another gerbil eating it. Explain how that is "cruelty" on PetSmarts behalf?? Every pet store has animal losses..it is the prevention methods that make the difference
Exactly and peta2 is protesting because petsmart uses Glue Traps. Down here though they have a Petsmart Vet. A lady took her dog there and they messed him up. I bought a hampster and a snake from there the snake did live a long time until he got out the cage now i cant find him! and the hampster died the next few days. I am going to shop at petsmart still because i see no harm. I will NOT buy any animals from there though! Also when i was little we got 2 birds and 4 rabbits from there!
I know for a fact u cant blame the franchise, but the people working there. Some petsmarts suck while otheres are good. Its like saying all petlands are bad. But I worked in a pet land, and the one I was in was great all pets get regualar check ups, and are treated as well as a pet store can.

yeah, i work at PetSmart too, and none of the pets we sell have any kinds of diseases what so ever because they are vaccinated by the breeder. And - like you said - any animal in general that is sick is taken to the "quiet room" (we call it the Kritter Hospital). This vid has no credibility and is obviously just a montage of sick hamsters.
Its not every damn Petsmart. I work at Petsmart. Sometimes we receive pets in horrible condition and hope to nurse them back to health. Its not our fault if they get shipped to us in bad condition.And you dont put sick pets in peoples view cause it causes stress which increases the likelyhood for them to die. If you are so against Petsmart you should be against ANY establishment that sells pets because there will always be casualties in transport or to diseases.

I got one of my three rats at petsmart. He was completely unsocialized with people AND with other rats. He had been in a cage by himself. Rat owners know how traumatizing it is for a rat, and now I have to house him separately because he is not well behaved. I love him, but if ANY of the people there understood rats, this should NOT have happened. Shame on them. The location was on long island, you would think they would know better.

Please don't post mean comments on me, I'm just trying to save pets lives. My cousin worked there for a month to check out the rumers, and it's true they are backrooms with many sick and dying animals. She was ordered to take some baby hampsters outside and kill them, because they were sick. She couldn't do it to them so she put them in her pocket and went home. She raised them but only 1 of six lived. Please DO NOT buy the live animals from there. Thanxs

@saradomingod611 wet tail is very curable wet tail happens to a hamster when it is too stressed. if your hamster has wet tail it will NOT eat and get very dehidrated. you can buy medicin at any pets store, u usually put it in the water and your hamster wil be fine after a week

All animals get illnesses. All animals die. It's not necesarily the shop's fault, all though they could seperate the ill from the healthy to prevent disease. Most of thoseanimals were probably purchased from a "certified" breeder. The ones that are just out for the money. Although the shop shouldn't purchase from them, how are they suppose to know exactly if it's a REAL certified breeder that cares for the health of animals. BTW, you keep showing the exact same pictures. Not much to show there.

This depresses me. Although i highly doubt that these are actual photos taken of pets in petsmart, i do have to say that anyone who can leave an animal like that is rediculous. I work at PetSmart and we have an in-store vet. AS SOON AS a problem is noticed, the animal is brought directly to the vet. At our location, our petcare associates truly do care of the animals we have. those who are hired who dont seem to care, are very quickly gotten rid of! that simple.

I worked at a PetSmart for 3 months...it was one of the highest rated PetSmarts in the area. I was forced to quit because our manager was incompetent and I would not stand for it. Three rats went with ear infections untreated. The infection got to their brains and caused them to self mutilate. There were also at least 3 hamsters with wet tail in the back room at all times as well as malnourished leopard geckos. I reported them to regional and nothing was ever done. Shame on you PetSmart.

I purchased two rats from petsmart. They came home with lice. I called the store to tell them they had rat lice and even told them how to treat it. Treatment for every rat in the store would have been $3 or $4 - all of them, not per rat. But you can't sell them as feeder rats for a month after treatment so they opted not to treat any of them.

I got 2 rats at petsmart in Savannah, GA. I've yet to have any issues with them but my tan/white dumbo is for the most part blind. But no health issues so far. There will crappy stores once in awhile specially with chains. I figured out the pet store close to where I live, not even a mile has the best cages, prices food and treats for my 2 rats. I would have spent 150 or so at petsmart for a 3 level cage but spent 90 at local petstore for the same cage.

well i can see were this is coming from. I buy from pet smart. They do sell hampster,snakes,birds,bearded dragons. Those are the main things they sell wich do come from a place similar to a puppy mill. But they adopt out cats. They used to take in puppies and adopt them out Spayed and everything. They stopped doing that in NC for some reason. But im sure in some places they may sell puppy mill puppies im not sure though. I do not agree. BUT petsmart offers 30 day health guarntee on all pets.

I'd say just about every hamster pictured in this video showed wet tail. Unfortunately, it is very contagious and can be rapidly fatal. It is very common in any pet store and they try to take preventive measures to help keep all animals happy and healthy. Petsmart also isolates and medicates any animal that comes down with wet tail.

Petland is more likely to abuse animals and put them down, look at all the lawsuits (civil and criminal) against them. PetSMART on the other hand is a publicly traded company on Wall Street. If they didn't have strict policies in place regarding animal handling and if animal abuse ran rampant like they do at other large-chain pet stores the shareholders can easily dump everything thus ruining the company's net worth to the point where they file for Chapter 13.

Also, I worked in the specialty and aquatics dept. and in the grooming dept. and they make their employees go through more safety training and safe handling training than ANY other place I have worked. Even when I have worked with foods that humans eat. It's mandatory that employees handling ANY animal at all must be properly trained and knowledgeable about that creature. This video may not have lots of proof, but there is actual video proof that Petsmart suppliers are corrupt. Animals should be left to the small, friendly neighbor hood pet shop, not to big chain stores. The thought of that just says "disaster". And, obviously, it's become quit the disaster. They have a great selection of pet stuff, but I'm pretty sure that actual animals are not their thing.
You may not like PETA, but they've exposed plenty of things many people would've never seen.

The cat areas at petsmart are from your local animal shelter. Many Petstores offer their space and service to these animals so they won't get euthanized. they are well tended to as best as can be allowed. It's either kill a perfectly good pet or let it be in a smaller cage until someone is compassionate enough to share their home with it. Technically all cat and dogs adoptions are run solely by the local animal shelter. They don't have to let the chain stores have the cats.

Hamsters are not left to "suffer" first off...especially not to wet-tail...it is the most common illness in rodents and it is caused mostly by stress such as shipping. The same photos were shown again and again...and the last photo of the gerbil with part of it's head missing was from another gerbil eating it. Explain how that is "cruelty" on PetSmarts behalf?? Every pet store has animal losses..it is the prevention methods that make the difference

Exactly and peta2 is protesting because petsmart uses Glue Traps. Down here though they have a Petsmart Vet. A lady took her dog there and they messed him up. I bought a hampster and a snake from there the snake did live a long time until he got out the cage now i cant find him! and the hampster died the next few days. I am going to shop at petsmart still because i see no harm. I will NOT buy any animals from there though! Also when i was little we got 2 birds and 4 rabbits from there!

I'm not into pet shop cruelty, but your film was a waste of time...
1) it shows no proof that those pictures were taken from a petsmart
2) you basically repeated 3-4 photos... were are your '100's' of animals? not to mention the one you showed the most looked like a healthy rat.
3) indivitual stores are owned by diffrent people, its the managers responsiblity to make sure his store is run humainly.

I know for a fact u cant blame the franchise, but the people working there. Some petsmarts suck while otheres are good. Its like saying all petlands are bad. But I worked in a pet land, and the one I was in was great all pets get regualar check ups, and are treated as well as a pet store can.

I don't know about petsmart cruelty because the one i go to is in Rockville (MD) i barely see any dead fish . and there was a turtle there alone sadly but lasted about 2years i think? but i think the birds are the only ones being tortured by small space.

i have worked at a petsmart where it was like this,the manger wanted me to put cockateils and budgies and other small animals in a giant freezer becuase they were sick i couldnt carry on with the tesk so yeah some places do this alote.

i noticed you have no facts along with your video, maybe you should get some? hamsters arent the only animals they have there. honestly what are they supposed to do if an animal gets to sick to control. the hamster in the bag is prolly most likely a hamster some one brought in that had died. this video is retarded and pointless with not one fact pet smart has been great to all my animals, they also make sure not to sell rats for snake food so your a dumb fuck. so research!! :]

darkchildsrat is right. i work at a petsmart too. stupid ass people always try to make these cruelty videos. when we get small animals the man has them all in ONE bin. he seperates them healty or not and leaves them. we have to nurse the sick ones.. and there is a spereate room called the "quiet room" where if a animal is sick on arrival or on the floor it is isolated and treated. till either it dies or gets better IGNORANT FUCKS

yeah, i work at PetSmart too, and none of the pets we sell have any kinds of diseases what so ever because they are vaccinated by the breeder. And - like you said - any animal in general that is sick is taken to the "quiet room" (we call it the Kritter Hospital). This vid has no credibility and is obviously just a montage of sick hamsters.

Its not every damn Petsmart. I work at Petsmart. Sometimes we receive pets in horrible condition and hope to nurse them back to health. Its not our fault if they get shipped to us in bad condition.And you dont put sick pets in peoples view cause it causes stress which increases the likelyhood for them to die. If you are so against Petsmart you should be against ANY establishment that sells pets because there will always be casualties in transport or to diseases.
