How do you see this "consumer world" as nirvana? It is quite a vision that Buddhism and the Dalai Lama have! Cognitive dissonance as Robert Thurman calls it--on the one hand horrible things are happing but on the other hand it is perfect (?). I have to admit my own tilt is towards a depressive outlook. The key still seems to be emptiness which makes phenomenal and personal selflessness possible. The "depressive" part of the current global phenomena is dependently arisen. Empty of "depressive".
