  • He's a drum MACHINE!

  • why do so many drum videos have out of sync sound? it's so off-putting! awesome video though.

  • yeah..

  • wish I had learned this before. Rich lesson, not only because of the lesson, but because of the crash info

  • Great groove! Why not superimpose the music too? For me that would be more helpful than the pic of the bass drum (I can hear the bass drum notes - I dont need to see them too).

    Great teaching. Lets have more.

  • What kit is that????

  • Mr. Roberts is best drum teacher, and it s wery easy to understand hes lesson

  • Very cool and very fun to play, hard to memorize at first, but if it was easy everyone would be doing it! Nice speed too Stu, and the BIG THREE holds it together good.

  • Just by watching this, I feel like I've gotten better already! I love always learn new stuff for the kit.

  • hehê_ï_fÈËl_sØ_lòÑÈlY_tôDÄy

  • I love this groove, and you have to laugh when, after finishing some cool example of it at regular speed, he says 'Yeeeah...' Like, go ahead, bitches...try that one, son.

  • love the sound of satisfaction @06:33

  • nice lesson. nicely played. thanks a ton.

  • you and mike johnston are the coolest dudes and great drummers

  • I play is over and over again ALL THE TIME! so much fun to fool around with.

  • A delicious groove: explained wisely. Thank you, my friend.

  • Oh sweet! This is my drum teacher! Never knew he did Youtube videos.

  • Yowza - amazing how the patterns can sound a bit arithmetical when played slowly but suddenly get a groove on when played quicker - excellent stuff!

  • your room sounds really good.

  • your room sounds really good.

  • those left hands actually turn into ghost notes sped up. it' sounds pretty amazing.

  • great job. I only wish you´d start with the end product first and then split it up into little pieces. It´s like seeing the whole picture first before starting the puzzle. at least that´s what m y brain needs. :)

  • yeahhhhh

  • yeahhhhh

  • nice! thanks ^^

  • YOU ARE AMAZING

  • Stu - good post mate, how long / often did you practice this before you got it?

  • nice!

  • Wicked! I'm obsessed with Linear Patterns right now. This is one of the best lessons I've seen. Thanks Bro!

  • very useful thanks

  • very cool and inspiring. thanks a lot for the great lesson

  • Très bon batteur !

    J'aime trop tes vidéos !!

  • Great lesson stu, linear drumming is very different to the way I have traditionally approached drum set and as such its been very challenging to try and adopt these concepts. This vid demonstrated all the elements perfectly and made it easy to go and hit the practice room. Also very impressed with the powerful but relaxed way you play where the speed comes from technique rather than squeezing it, out thanks again!

  • Whoa, he's actually pretty fukcing good at that. Linear drumming is probably one of the hardest things to do. Good job, Professor Goot Boi.

  • Brillliant lesson, a real tutor - not a show off like most of the drummer on youtube - breaking it down really simply - at a slow pace and crystal

    Cheers from Brazil

  • Yeah.....Stu I really like the way you break it all down ( Linear beats).

I am definitely turning my students on to your Video's.

  • great druming, 5/5

    Too cool, man, too cool.

  • so funky with speed..

  • i like how he repeats the beat progressively so memorization is almost done for you.

    Sam

  • awesome sounding kit ! what is it ? great lesson ! cheers dude !

  • Agree with Chowdermint. Thanks!

  • Dunno if you are too busy or not to answer Stu, but what records do you recommend to hear some really badass linear drumming? Like an amazing band with a brilliant drummer using alot of linear techniques?

  • im not a drummer so i could be wrong but check out chris pennie from his dillinger escape plan days

  • Yeah i'm a big fan of Dillinger, hoping for something a little less abrasive and something that allows the drumming to cut through? Ive heard Billy Cobham is great and i own Birds of fire...

  • If this helps: Fool In the Rain by Led Zeppelin. Pretty awesome groove I think they call the Purdie Shuffle in some other cases. I guess it might not be entirely linear, but it sounds very similar to the groove on this video.

  • Steve gadd

  • What a great groove for an introduction to linear drumming , just what I've been searching for.

Stu , your one of the few drummmers who are just a pleasure to listen to , and as a bonus your also a great teacher.

  • Agreed sir.

  • 1000 sanx. Great lesson

  • didnt you do a voice over on animal planet for a documentary about the nile crocodiles in africa?

  • Thanks dude, very cool lesson! what is your snare drum?

  • This is very cool! great lesson!! the drumset sounds awesome.

  • cool

  • great groove, nice one !

  • solid man

  • I really enjoyed watching that. He's got a really nice style, really layed back but still with loadsa dynamics and power in the hands.

    Ana that groove sounded lush.

One thing tho..... did he have a port hole cut into his kick BATTER head? :S

  • You're joking right...? The batter head is clear, you can see through it to the port hole in the reso head...

  • Ha yeh must be, i was just sat their looking at it thinking. wtf? Why would he do that lol

Looking at it now tho i can see he blatently doesnt lol

  • good stufff here
