Great groove! Why not superimpose the music too? For me that would be more helpful than the pic of the bass drum (I can hear the bass drum notes - I dont need to see them too).
Very cool and very fun to play, hard to memorize at first, but if it was easy everyone would be doing it! Nice speed too Stu, and the BIG THREE holds it together good.
I love this groove, and you have to laugh when, after finishing some cool example of it at regular speed, he says 'Yeeeah...' Like, go ahead, bitches...try that one, son.
great job. I only wish you´d start with the end product first and then split it up into little pieces. It´s like seeing the whole picture first before starting the puzzle. at least that´s what m y brain needs. :)
Stu - this is ace! Really useful lesson man. Top groove and you explain it really clearly compared to some of the guys on youtube. Cheers and keep it coming ;)
Great lesson stu, linear drumming is very different to the way I have traditionally approached drum set and as such its been very challenging to try and adopt these concepts. This vid demonstrated all the elements perfectly and made it easy to go and hit the practice room. Also very impressed with the powerful but relaxed way you play where the speed comes from technique rather than squeezing it, out thanks again!
Hey Stu, as usual you broke down a pattern that once looked difficult. I've learned so much with you in the past few months! You're the best teacher I've ever had! Thank you so much.
I've not seen your videos till now. Love your method of teaching and really like the this groove. I must admit that you make it look a bit easier than it is. I'm looking forward to executing similar to you. Great job!
been playing on/off as hobby for 40+ years. this lesson totally inspired me to learn linear. your teaching style is as relaxed as your groove. keep it up.
Awesome stu! Love all your lessons and your enthusiasm. Just get back into drumming after some years not playing. Finding you lessons very useful, kepp em coming!
Really clear lesson and perfectly enunciated. I managed to get it down very quickly. The speed will hopefully follow. Many thanks St and keep 'em coming!
Dunno if you are too busy or not to answer Stu, but what records do you recommend to hear some really badass linear drumming? Like an amazing band with a brilliant drummer using alot of linear techniques?
Yeah i'm a big fan of Dillinger, hoping for something a little less abrasive and something that allows the drumming to cut through? Ive heard Billy Cobham is great and i own Birds of fire...
If this helps: Fool In the Rain by Led Zeppelin. Pretty awesome groove I think they call the Purdie Shuffle in some other cases. I guess it might not be entirely linear, but it sounds very similar to the groove on this video.
I hope i could also play like him :)) (in due time)
