does anyone know if CONELRAD (sp)? would still be used to disseminate information post atomic attack? ( alerts on the radio) does it even exist? If so, what is it used for now.? does it still use the same frequencies?
CONELRAD was completely superseded by the Emergency Broadcast System, which, in turn, has been superseded by the Emergency Alert System.
Theoretically, EAS will broadcast an EAN (Emergency Action Notification) on all stations, but, as today's flop test shows, that's only theory at this point.
I love how this movie played out. Unlike how European NATO troops in other 80s scenarios fire first, US fires first this time. And when a European target is hit by Soviet missiles, that gives the US preparation time. But...if you've seen the movie, you know that by all those people running like "WTFWTF WHERE DO I GO" that they didn't listen. But...anytime a NATO target outside the US is hit...the US is getting hit too. Trust me.
@PinoyPogiman Defense Readiness Condition. Goes from 5-1, where 5 is minimum readiness, and 1 is maximum readiness (In other words, war is about to begin).
@PinoyPogiman Defense Readiness Condition. On a 5 to 1 scale, 5 is lowest state of readiness. Generally it is accepted that the US would launch nuclear weapons at DEFCON 1, that is not necessarily the case. The US could launch nuclear weapons at ANY DEFCON condition depending upon the conditions of the launch. The DEFCON being changed does not always affect the whole military. Forces can be specifically put on alert, such as 5th Region, US Army or the division responsible for Washington, DC.
@PinoyPogiman Yeah, the DHS terror alert color thing was lame. No one pays attention to it anymore. Honestly, the American public is so dense, the alert level could be red and they'd be standing there doing nothing; with a terror (or other) threat imminent. It's a shame that when the cold war 'ended' so did Americans give-a-damn about self reliance in still uncertain times.
@PinoyPogiman Yeah, I've been slowly working on my bug-out equips and action plan. On a budget you can get some good stuff if you can accept that the $45 Fenix flashlight will serve you just as well as the $120 SurFire. Gotta look for good deals when you can find them. Firearms are tough to find bargains on, but you can get decent rifles and shotguns under $300, if you don't HAVE to have a Rem 700 BDL Benelli or something crazy like that. Ammo, buy Tula, if you have a decent weapon it'll work.
Pretty good...but to keep this realistic, once the exchange in Europe happened, the gov would probably issue an EAN at that time. I doubt they would state that our military is at DEFCON 2...most people have no clue what that means. All in all tho, this is pretty good!!!!
You could of modified the screen. Just go into playbsic, goto edit (i think0 > replace. Then type in Box 1: EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM Then type in replace with box: EMERGENCY BRODCAST SYSTEM

@guns4good yea, most would be skeptical. in my view.
considering the fact that people act when they see, when they should do now.
people would accuse someone by being paranoid when its better safe than sorry
which in my case is trying to get domestic preppardeness equipment in the future, which ill be building up my Bug out Bag

@guns4good yea, but as of now. till i get a standard gun license, living the disaster from looters and bandits would be worthwhile
but ammo... better to hoard on it as stuff like that is going to be hard to find when all the shops are going to be ransacked.

@irishmanb1974 Also...in the 80's, we used the Emergency Broadcast System. It was changed to the EAS later on.
