i got 16 secs for 1/4 mile drag and 32 secs for reverse 1/4 mile drag on my 2007 toyota camry hybrid with 2.4 liter H.S.D. it is even faster than both of them but not as fuel efficient.
"come on, this doesn't move" lol really? i thought it would go faster because it's a hybrid (sarcasm)
This whole thing was pretty pointless. Hybrids become regular gas cars when they're driven like that on a track. Anyways, I would get the Civic over the Prius.
Agreed, these hybrids are never meant to be driven near flat-out. In fact they're supposed to be driven preferably below 2000 rpm to achieve optimum fuel efficiency and go as far as possible.
i think it is really stupid from a motor tv show to do a video with the simple purpose of talk trashing Hybrids. Whatever. Torque.tv is a moronic channel.
Built for idiots that can't figure out the fact that Cost per mile rules not MPG! Why suffer in a econobox green lie? Prius owners claim it's 'mid sized' when the FACT is that it is nothing more than an electric assisted stretched Yaris platform. future maintenance nightmare (especially the toyota) uncomfortable(cheap light weight seats and everything else), slow, unsafe, poor handling, little utility and expensive to purchase and repair. Prius the No. 1 car for the brain dead.
Give me the Civic any day. I'm sick of Toyota. I have a Camry Hybrid, & although it's a nice looking car, it has had many problems, & is horrible to drive. My car burns oil, it had a broken engine block (which they replaced under warranty), both sun visors broke, side airbag cover keeps falling off, power outlets/cig lighters don't work (not the fuse, & warranty is now out), 1 key fob stopped working (not the battery), brakes sqeak.
Hello? The Civic Hybrid wins the quick lap (with a smaller engine?) even though the Prius wins the drag race (forward) and the Prius was trashed when going backward. So I think it's still a tie :)!!!!!!!
LOL these cars are so slow. My parents have a Prius, I drive it all the time, and its acceleration leaves something to be desired. & LOL at the reverse drag race
Testing hybrids for speed is antithetical to what hybrids are about. As for the dumbass who thinks it's "faggy" to own a hybrid, remember that one third of every dollar you spend on gas goes to countries who support terrorism. Buy more gas and finance the killing of Americans. Idiot!
LOL "The Civic just looks like a Civic and goes fast backwards!" Priceless!
I still like my Civic Hybrid though. If I wanted a car for it's power, I just wouldn't get a hybrid. The reason I own a hybrid rather is to save on fuel costs (which I am). I have to laugh every time my redneck coworker who drives an F350 for the look he doesn't even haul anything complains about the cost of fuel.
The moment I save up enough money though, I'm buying myself a used RX7 to work on. ;)
i've driven my grandmother's civic hybrid and the lack of power is frustrating. You floor it and it feels like you're calmly pulling away from a light. As much as I hate the look of the Prius I would buy it over a Civic hybrid because of the power difference. I know these things are mostly about the gas mileage but if I have to question if i have enough power to pass somebody on the highway then it just doesn't deserve a spot in my driveway.
Purely from looks point of view, Civic Hybrid owns the Prius. If you get a Civic, imagine how many mods you could do to make that puppy look even better! and no matter what you do to Prius - you cannot change the boxy look. (Same goes to the Honda's new Hybrid!).
It would be better to compare Corolla Hybrid with Civic Hybrid I guess.
@kyleisreallycool they should get the rc short course truck design then, that should be it,those thing goes 30 mph to 110 mph....they r rly fukin fast for a lil tiny 1/10,1/8 scale rc truck, buggy, truggy
@kyleisreallycool Well.. I mean some of the fastest accelerating cars are. And in fact I think the one fastest accelerating car is, the elicca or wtv it is. But you do have a good point. And I didn't mean top end speed, but I didn't specify that.
I don't care what you people say. My Honda Civic Hybrid owns. My best freind drives a 2007 Prius and with my 2004 Civic I totally raped. Especially on the turns, and it was only about a half mile. GO HONDA!
When you say 'raped' and 'owned' you certainly aren't talking about MPG. Both cars are nice though. If the salesman at the Honda dealer wasn't such a greasy liar I might have the Civic instead.
The Prius uses its electric motor to reverse, and with the small battery will come to a halt after about a km lol. If it is your second car and is used more for shopping, driving round the city, dropping kids at school, etc, then either does the job, though I hate the look of the Pruis, and it is very complicated. As a second car I'd take the Civic, it not so dorky looking and I'm not a vain greenie wanting to tell the world I'm an econut . For open road I want something that can overtake safely
It won't stop until the car runs out of gas. It can produce enough electric to run the electric motor in reverse. (Engine can run in reverse, just not connected to the drivetrain in reverse.)
What I meant was that for reversing the Prius uses its electric motor only. Using the car in electric only mode, which the Japanese versions can, the car has a range of about 1.5 km. With a larger Li-ion it would be much further. Part of the problem with the current NiMH is that Chevron holds the patent for battery packs larger than 10Kwh and of course is not allowing any to be built for automotive use, I wonder why. But Li-ion is about to overtake that lol, as are ultra capacitors it seems.
Oh believe me, I know about Chevron buying the NiHM battery. It's GM's fault they have to screw around with lithium batteries. I shouldn't have taken you so literally. I got one of the '10 prius, and now they put an EV button here in the U.S.! Yay ... Apparently I can have it converted to plugin and squeeze in more battery. I'm not sure how they do it, I guess they get away with it for not being as big as Toyota.
Toyotas bringing out the 2010 Pruis with Li-ion next year, I wonder the 2010 Prius with the NiMH can be swapped over. Watch out for the new capacitors touted as going into production soon. Supposed to hold more energy than Li-ion and cost as much as lead acid. If it works, fantastic.
I drive a Honda Civic Hybrid. Love it, it does what they say it does. Prius gets better mileage, accelerates faster, but I can't get over the look. AND WHY CAN'T YOU GET REAL ALUMINUM WHEELS WITH A PRIUS? Plastic wheel covers suck.
lol who the hell cares if it goes faster backwards, how lame. If I get a civic it won't be a hybrid, and after seeing this I think I'll get a toyota instead

@JosephHua it seems to me that most of these recalls are due to Toyota being too cautious?
