  • I am building a GH similar to your outdoor setup. I am wondering if there are any concerns with using PVC that is NOT for potable water? It seems as though the type that is for potable water is only available in a few small sizes (2" and 1" diameter). At least that was the case at my local store. Do you pay attention to the PVC codes? Any chemical concerns?

  • @yourcooltoocool PVC is a heavily debated subject. I use it in my systems, but you will have to make a decision on your own whether to use it or not. ;-)

  • What is the smaller tube on your water bridge for? Love the videos and the setup!

  • @yourcooltoocool It's used as a tiny siphon to remove any potential air bubbles that may collect in the bridge. However, if the power goes out, it will eventually siphon the water out of the tank until the level gets below the bottome of the bridge pipe....then when the power turns back on, you have to reprime the bridge. If it isn't there, you run the risk of too much air getting trapped in the bridge.

  • I think Leca (expanded clay) would be much lighter than gravel

  • @poojkhgf It's all about the cost of doing it. However, the gravel has been replaced with expanded shale.

  • Every vıdeo ı saw has lettuce or carrots can you grow lıke patatoes or some kınd of food that ıs edıble and ıs made frequently by cookıng? lıke patatoes made ınto french frıends ı cant thınk of anythıng else at the moment

  • @TheTurkishFalcon I've grown potatoes in my greenhouse system but they take up a lot of space. They are easier to just grow in the ground. I have the best luck with cucumbers and tomatoes.

  • Just curious though does the fish tank stay clean or do you have to empty and clean it frequently ?

  • @luwdmke The water stays clear all the time. No need for a charcoal filter.. There is a little slime that builds up on the glass (not algae) that I will clean off every couple of months. I had a couple of snails in there, but the fish kept killing them.

  • @web4deb just try to put in your aquarium a catfish which his mouth turn down . it will help clean the aquarium. free algae.

  • The vid was great loved the detail. The "I'm Heavy" sealed the deal. Instant subscription!

  • where do you plant the seeds? directly just put it there or there should be some kind of a small pot?

and should the seeds be submerged in the water level if you plant them?

    thanks! pls reply.. :)

  • @gianolrac You can plant seeds just like a dirt garden. Just make sure the media stays moist until they germinate. For seeds like lettuce you can just sprinkle them over the media and gently wipe your hand over it to shake them in. A lot of people also transplant seedlings into their grow beds once they have roots.

  • @web4deb thanks for that.. but should the seed be submerged in water? is tha okay? :)

  • @gianolrac If they are submerged, chances are it will rot. They just need to be slightly damp to germinate. If you are going to use a flood and drain system, usually you plant the seeds less than an inch down and flood no higher than that inch. There is enough moisture in that inch to get the seed to germinate.

  • @web4deb thanks for the help sir! that's a big help for me.. i hope i would be successful at my first try.. :)

  • Looks great, check out my video on my fish tank aquaponic system.

  • That fish is heavy.

  • How much does the bigger one whey?

  • @Prashmash I'm not sure, she doesn't want to get on the scale. ;-)

  • That is a big gold fish!.

  • Talking fish!

  • seems a little complicated compared to my system but you have beautiful fish

  • I'm doing something like this, except for both goldfish and talapia (edible fish)

  • your a very clever man

  • How does the water bridge work? It looks like something that i might be able to use and would like to know how to build one.

  • @DeerHunter10101 go to the forums at backyardaquaponics(dot)com and search for "web4deb indoor system" I put a detailed diagram of it in this thread awhile ago. Thanks!

  • @web4deb you're a genius dude! that is such a good idea!

  • very good. dont get many good videos like this

  • You're Quiet an Enthusiastic person!! LOL nice work again... Not the most practical system.. in my mind, but very cool to say the least!

  • Awesome! Good vid :)

  • subbed. Nice videos. Very detailed.

  • does this system ever leak onto the floor

  • @lilchopin1 YUP! The overflow got clogged once and the tank overflowed. Luckily, the floor is tile and we caught it in time.......

  • Place a Black Japanese Trapdoor Pond Snail inside the tank and it will clean glass for you!

  • Good idea! I have regular snails that get the job done though, but it gets annoying to see them everywhere.

  • nice grow opp.

  • nice. Others have noted that too much algae forms in the fish tank unless it is kept dark. I wonder how that will work out for you. Best wishes!

  • @JackANDJude I leave the light off on the tank most of the time and it's not in direct sunlight. No problems at all in the last 3 months! We only leave the light on when we want to show off our monster goldfish! ;-)

  • @web4deb The reason for the algae is the excess of nitrates in your water. This is good for the plants, but not for the fish. Excess of nitrates signifies a need for a water change.

  • @lilbutterfly66 The plants are absorbing the nitrates out of the water. Any buildup of goo on the glass is just the "good" bacteria that is converting to ammonia to nitrites & nitrates. I test the water on occasion and the nitrate level is negligible. This fish thank you for your concern. ;-)

  • @web4deb Okay, ignore my comment then :) I'm glad your fish and garden are happy. This makes me want to try something similar...

Wouldn't it be cool if someone could do this but with a koi/goldfish Pond? Like, for example, instead of a tiered waterfall system, you had a tiered aquagarden? Then the water could be clean and aerated!

  • @JackANDJude

Once the plants are well-established they soak up all the nitrate quickly, leaving little for the algae to live on.
