Yes, keyboards really add the atmosphere to this song, without keyboards it sounds very different, like incomplete. They could hire a session musician or at least use a recording, but keyboards are a must

I was a HUGE teenage Cure fan and saw them live 18 years ago, I almost wet my pants when Robert Smith blew a kiss to me but cannot believe how overweight he is now! it was always going to happen but still a shock. They were great in their day (lyric/music/song wise) but I think they kind of lost it after Wish but are obviously still ok live.

This particular video makes the absence of Boris Williams on the drums so evident. The new guy sucks! Being a Cure fan for many years, I prefer to remember them as the band from the 80's and 90's. I kind of like the sound of "The Only One", though. Still, the drummer sucks!

I was interested to hear what The Cure sounds like today, when they've got rid of a keyboard player. Better than expected I must say! But of course you miss the familiar keyboard parts in a song like this song. The piano solo worked well with guitar though. One thing I've always missed from the Cure's live sound is the lack of backing vocals! Some songs really need harmonies. I wonder why no member (except for the first bassist) of the Cure has ever contributed backing vocals.
