Very helpful video. I'm thinking about getting the Press N Snap and see that there are a number of dies. I'm just starting out and wondering what size would be a standard size for leather bracelets? What size do most people use? Thanks.
@PlayaFairy the Pres N Snap (when ordered from the manufacturer) comes with the dies for setting the line 24 snaps as shown in the video. These are the most-used heavy-duty snaps. The line 20 snaps are less burly - if you want to set these you will need to purchase the dies separately. Segma snaps are the most-used lightweight snaps - i don't think the pres n snap has a die set for these, but if so it would be also referred to as line 16 snaps.
good demo although i just successfully used my "bad" tools to set snaps in a bunch of bracelets. We'll see how they hold up. the key to using the crappy tools is, like you say, hold it straight.
@Sh4dowsUnited garment leather or sheep hide work well... that's a general answer for a general question... the type of jacket would be necessary info for a more precise answer. thanks for watching!
Because of YOUR video, I was able to find a tool that eliminated the hassle I repeatedly encountered with setting snaps. I purchased a press n snap tool yesterday 07/15/2011, and I am delighted with this purchase...it was money well spent! Thank you!!
@imatellmuva You are very welcome - and thanks for your comment. I could not agree more - the difference before and after the tool is more pronounced than night & day, isn't it? Glad I could point you in this direction!
Is there a better tool to set the segmas? I just went through an entire pack and a half of segmas and I can't get the caps to stay on the female end! They keep falling off!! I'm only using 6oz (ish) leather, and I was told these would set well in belt leather, so I can't see why they won't work. I'm seriously frustrated.
@totalconfusion87 Getting the knack of segma snaps can be vexing, can't it? Hang in there - once you get it figured out, it goes smoother! You should not have any trouble setting them in 6oz leather!
This reply space doesn't offer enough space for me to be very helpful; if you live near a Tandy store, take your tools, leather and snaps in and ask them for a quick demo. If that's not possible, email me at aosleather@gmail.com and I will be glad to help you figure this out! :-)
@mayakisses Possible but not easy; a good pair of sidecutter pliers is my first line of attack, - try to go between the leather and the snap on the bottom side of the leather. If that fails then a drill will grind out the center post - you have to hold the leather and the snap parts immobile when you're drilling, so a clamp or a helper is very useful! Good luck and thanks for watching!
@Andrewsky89 I use a sharp razor knife and a steel ruler. On wide bands I bevel the edges with an edge-beveling tool. All the necessary tools can be found online at Tandy / Leather Factory :-)
Hi again, Bighousedaddy here... I made my own tools to set the 24 line snaps... I like you became more than pissed at the tools Tandy provided... The tools I made fit on an arbor press and it works very will...
@bighousedaddy How clever of you! Maybe you should get a patent & sell the design to Tandy, cuz we all agree that their tools are not up to snuff! :-D
I just bought a leather cover for the lines on my tig welding torch and the snaps on it hardly hold. I am sure by the time I drag the cover across the floor while welding many of them will unsnap. I suspect a cheap chinese product is the problem so where does one get quality snaps online and KNOW he is getting something worth working with?
if you're looking for snaps to set yourself, try tandy/leatherfactory online. If you're looking for someone to set them for you, try your local yellow pages under either shoe repair or canvas repair.
You do have a great voice. Also the press and sanp works great. Got mine yesterday and set oever 100 line 24 sanps in a rv cover. Kinda rough on the hands after the first 30 or so.
Using the table for leverage helps the hands a lot! And I know if you used this tool you spent a lot less time on over 100 snaps than you would have with the drive setters ;-) I hate to sound like a commercial, lol, but you are going to love that tool!
Thank you! Very helpful.

@ronnigphotography with a standard leather punch, either a rotary punch or drive punches. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for your video. Is it possible to remove snaps when you totally screw up using the drive setter and anvil?
