So after watching all the parts I was wondering if this was a documentary about grunge music or about Kurt. I Wish there was a grunge documentary that didn't mention Nirvana every 5 minutes.
@jfoley715 This documentary wasn't about the bands' successes, it was about how the mainstream media and pop culture sucked the authenticity out of this musical/art movement and raped it till it had nothing left... Sad story
I love the 90's. It had the best music, and Beavis and Butthead was the only reason to even bother watching tv. South Patk, Family Guy, American Dad.etc do not even compare to the quality that show had.
loved nirvana, pearl jam it all good. one thing is i wish i was back in the 90's music was way better. also think its funny how people paid over the odds for work clothes i had stuff like flannel plaid shirts and ripped jeans not because i wanted them i was given them because they where cheep and also i got hand me downs.
They need to update this. I wanna see what some of these people are doing now. SOundgardens back together. laynes dead. Nirvanas 20th year after nevermind.
@Verd1m5 i thought that too ... lol they mentioned Bush , and no STP....btw grunge died with soundgarden not nirvana....ppl asociate almost everything with nirvana cause they were mainstream:)
@maxmatt4 when i thinka abt layne hes story breaks my heart nd as much as i like nirvana theres like 100 bio abt them what abt layne? this guy is so underrated it make me sick
I love this ear because not only the music is amazing, but i can relate because the songs i write are meaningful to me and i coudl care less if other peopel felt the same way, these people were not attention whores, there jsut happened to be a lot of people like me back then.
I prefer grunge mainstream than that hip hop/ bubble gum pop/ queermo mainstream that's around today. Everybody that has a good taste in music has probably heard this phrase a million times in the youtube comments page but, I wish I was a 90s generation kid. fuck my generation.
every now and then there are music revolution I just hope to be witness of such revolution I remebered back in the 90's all nirvana look alike I remember like at the very end of the nineties some media labeled puddle of mud as the next nirvana... It's incredible how media takes advantage I guess music is killed when it is made for the only sole porpuse of money making and music takes a second place
I enjoyed this documentary. I'm going to check out Hype! but I just thought this documentary was pretty neat. I already knew Mudhoney, Melvins, and all the other bands associated with the grunge revolution but it was cool learning how things started out. I think everyone, at least in the "Grunge" factor learned a lesson and took the music back to where it should be, the underground. I sure hope one day, a music revolution will happen again.
@TheRealSonicYouth When that happens, I'll definitely want to hear you guys and go "Finally, grunge is back!" And yeah, knock Bieber and the Jonas Brothers down a peg.
im surprised no one is saying the melvins should be more famous. They have been together for a long time and they were one of the first 6 grunge bands and they are still making some of the best music today they are a band that should be remembered forever just like layne and cobain
@LongviewGD182 yeah i know 1 person in my highschool who knows of the melvins and mudhoney and no one else do when alot of their songs are in many ways better then nirvana.
They've sold over 35 million records worldwide while Pantera, being recognized as one of the better metal acts of the '90s sold barely 10 million in total. What else do they deserve?
@conspicuousjim I really like Bush, they may not have been Grunge at all but I agree, Sixteen Stone was a good album and I did like Razorblade Suitcase as well.
It was because they were the last of the big Seattle bands to break up. Well, apart from Pearl Jam who had changed a lot by that time and Alice in Chains who by 97 had just faded away.
Every time a sub-genre makes it big, MTV and the media exploit the grist of it until everyone grows weary and finds another form of music to devour. Even nu-metal was tolerable back in the mid 90's, before Korn and Limp Bizkit signed to major labels. For me, Grunge lost its momentum when post Grunge bands like Collective Soul and Live pussified it. Not that those bands are bad music, they just lack the raw feeling that the original Sub Pop groups have.
@nuclearknight01 This, I agree here. Even though I like Korn (early) and Limp Bizkit (Early) along with some Collective soul and Live, they didn't sound grunge in the slightest, just a tad grunge but I'm guessing they weren't really going for Grunge to begin with. But you're right, whenever MTV or the media finds music sub genre, they exploit to such a bad extent that it's not funny.
Good music died when kurts's brain hit the floor 2000-2010 meaningless music over hear were I'm at this tehcno music with these "rebels" that's Wat they call um dress in girls closeths and dance like retards deadmau5 can suck a electro dick

@bbrraaddlleeyyrr yea ik i didnt say they were good, i just said at least theyre still making music. but they dont suck. wtf is wrong with you you're not a real fan then if you cant listen to their music
Dani California, Between the Lines, Check My Brain, Your Decision, Black Rain, Just Breathe, Amongst the Waves, and The Fixer. those are some alright songs
i'd rather listen to heir new music than "popular" music of today. and if you disagree with that, you are ABSOLUTELY a poser
You know what? They played a song by Stone temple pilots but they didn't mention them at all in this doc. Stone temple pilots is my second favorite band of the 90's behind ALIC E IN CHAINS.
notes and rhythms sections going on 20+ years, its funny AIC can accomplish in 8-9 years what took Metallica to accomplish in 30+ years (metal gods my ass) lars ulrich=most overrated power drummer out there (hell I bet even layne staleys mediocre drum-skills were "AS" good as his, and then we have dave grohl who would make ulrichs head explode in a pw-drumming contest lol.
And also to add, nobody wants to listen to his problems=you dont want to listen to his problems (cause incase you haven't noticed majority and i do mean 99% of the populous that enjoyed that era of music or style, enjoyed AIC immensely, name to me another band during that period of ERA/DECADE PERIOD that put on as good as a live show, had as natural-flowing HARMONIES/vocal range, and put out hit track after hit track, lol - I bet you can't and dont say U2 or Metallica, they have been using the
@Itzsfo0 Pearl Jam put on as good/better live show than alice in chains. Plus anyone on here can look it up Ten outsold Nevermind. Pearl Jam forever! they are the only ones standing today that Havent previously broke up/ delt with drug additcion/ lost a member.
bad to happen to you, but no simply you just cease to exist, as well as your opinions, sure everyones entitled to their own opinion, but why even post something so pathetic, im sure your some sort of football-enthusiast, who loves the idea of corporate american and you probably like "limp bizkit" or "linkin park" and considering them talented LOL fool.
his battles with addiction, lonelyness, anger, depression, loss, love-loss, love in general, acceptance, alienation (all the major themes that really encompassed that ENTIRE period of time and music) yet your (most likely) young/dumb/immature ass thinks that he was just "bitching" about being a drug-addict actually he made a career out of recording music that detailed (the above such topics) nothing wrong with that AIC rules, anyone else that thinks different...no i dont hate you or wish anythin
yea AIC was by far the most talented (technically speaking) rhythm sections, beautiful compositions, layne staleys lyric-composition, his vocal range, his grunt-to-scowl-scream style, nothing compares to them (plus jerry cantrells licks) and AIC had 2 - great bassist's in their career and outlasted some of the other several famed-grunge bands, layne staley bitched about being a junkie? I dont know who wrote this line down below, but you must be the biggest fucking retard, HE TALKED about
@TaffTalk grunge doesn't belong with the minimalist. Didn't you hear soundgarden say they worked hard to get where they were at? They wanted to reach the widest audience they could. Cobain wanted to prove to all of those jackasses that made fun him when he was little wrong.
there are some many great bands in this documentary. but for me alice in chains is the best. layne was so brilliant! i wish he was here to keep music from goin downhill....
Where the fuck is STP? They play "Down" but don't mention 'em.

@whoohaaXL Because STP was not an original band. They're good, but they ripped off PJ and AIC on their first two albums.

his battles with addiction, lonelyness, anger, depression, loss, love-loss, love in general, acceptance, alienation (all the major themes that really encompassed that ENTIRE period of time and music) yet your (most likely) young/dumb/immature ass thinks that he was just "bitching" about being a drug-addict actually he made a career out of recording music that detailed (the above such topics) nothing wrong with that AIC rules, anyone else that thinks different...no i dont hate you or wish anythin

yea AIC was by far the most talented (technically speaking) rhythm sections, beautiful compositions, layne staleys lyric-composition, his vocal range, his grunt-to-scowl-scream style, nothing compares to them (plus jerry cantrells licks) and AIC had 2 - great bassist's in their career and outlasted some of the other several famed-grunge bands, layne staley bitched about being a junkie? I dont know who wrote this line down below, but you must be the biggest fucking retard, HE TALKED about

@TaffTalk Yeah, that's what i always thought, and I was only born in the 90's, though it was cool that finally the mainstream had good music in it

@TaffTalk grunge doesn't belong with the minimalist. Didn't you hear soundgarden say they worked hard to get where they were at? They wanted to reach the widest audience they could. Cobain wanted to prove to all of those jackasses that made fun him when he was little wrong.

the complexities of human emotion and media speculation was personified in Grunge. An inevitable tragedy........

It's funny, on 1:55 when that guy says " I don't know what he's doing now, but probably up to no good". Ironic, Layne died that same year.
