  • Where the fuck is STP? They play "Down" but don't mention 'em.

  • @whoohaaXL Because STP was not an original band. They're good, but they ripped off PJ and AIC on their first two albums.

  • foo fighters are dirt

  • So after watching all the parts I was wondering if this was a documentary about grunge music or about Kurt. I Wish there was a grunge documentary that didn't mention Nirvana every 5 minutes.

  • The era of loud screaming & distortion guitars...

  • Layne Staley will never get the respect he deserves...one of the best vocalists ever...RIP Layne you'll never be forgotten by us FUCK THE MAINSTREAM

  • @dcllzo1 one day people will realize that RIP layne staley is the best singer of all time...

  • foo fighters are 'power pop' ? that's just stupid...

  • Andrew Wood, Layne and kurt. If we loose cornell i give up on music

  • layne staley is so underrated that make me sick this guy was so talented

  • I like Nirvana but this series really focuses on them too much. It overshadows the success of the other bands.

  • @jfoley715 This documentary wasn't about the bands' successes, it was about how the mainstream media and pop culture sucked the authenticity out of this musical/art movement and raped it till it had nothing left... Sad story

  • its kinda weird, a few weeks after this special, Layne died

  • i used to play Grunge music, till i took an arrow to the knee :D

  • wheres part 6 dammit''' :S

  • billy corgan and the smashing pumpkins are not grunge

  • ya today they call it alternative.

  • I love the 90's. It had the best music, and Beavis and Butthead was the only reason to even bother watching tv. South Patk, Family Guy, American Dad.etc do not even compare to the quality that show had.

  • what year was this documentary?

  • loved nirvana, pearl jam it all good. one thing is i wish i was back in the 90's music was way better. also think its funny how people paid over the odds for work clothes i had stuff like flannel plaid shirts and ripped jeans not because i wanted them i was given them because they where cheep and also i got hand me downs.

  • GRUNGE ENDS AND SHITTY NU METAL COMES IN

    FUCK SLIPKNOT

  • SOUNDGARDEN LIVES. PEARL JAM LIVES.

  • They need to update this. I wanna see what some of these people are doing now. SOundgardens back together. laynes dead. Nirvanas 20th year after nevermind.

  • @flipside799

(the) MELVINS are still awesome :D

  • It's hard to be a drug addict and keep a schedule , or as they put it "inward"

  • so sad...this is from b4 Layne died...bummer dude

  • Soundgardens's BACK!! WHOOOHO!

  • you know something? after watching all this, where was stone temple pilots? x_x

  • @Verd1m5 In San Diego. :)

  • @Verd1m5 thats the same thing I was thinking

  • @Verd1m5 i thought that too ... lol they mentioned Bush , and no STP....btw grunge died with soundgarden not nirvana....ppl asociate almost everything with nirvana cause they were mainstream:)

  • This grunge thing ended when Soundgarden disbanded.

  • @Audioslave3 i beleive so

  • @Audioslave3 I AGREE!

  • Cool documentary but I wonder why they didn't even bother to include STP...

  • I love Grunge, INCLUDING, BUSH and SILVERCHAIR fuck these guys for slicing those great bands.

  • Love this. It always inspires me.

  • Comment removed

  • It sucks that this was made before Layne Stanley overdosed, and you hear these guys wondering what he was doing...

  • @maxmatt4 I know that always gets me emotional ):

  • @maxmatt4 when i thinka abt layne hes story breaks my heart nd as much as i like nirvana theres like 100 bio abt them what abt layne? this guy is so underrated it make me sick

  • Is part 6 still around? cant find it now.

  • I love this ear because not only the music is amazing, but i can relate because the songs i write are meaningful to me and i coudl care less if other peopel felt the same way, these people were not attention whores, there jsut happened to be a lot of people like me back then.

  • Wat is that song at 4:12?

  • @ThatOneGuy010

"i don't know anything" by Mad Season

  • I prefer grunge mainstream than that hip hop/ bubble gum pop/ queermo mainstream that's around today. Everybody that has a good taste in music has probably heard this phrase a million times in the youtube comments page but, I wish I was a 90s generation kid. fuck my generation.

  • @kermicheo I was a teenager in the 90's lived it loved the music.

  • @kermicheo All mainstream music sucks... Once it's mainstream it loses all relevance haha

  • Anyone who has a higher quality of this doc?

  • fuck you bush is not a nirvana wannabe

  • silverchair sucks

  • Grunge is not dead! Loads of the grunge bands are still populair out here

  • Can somebody please tell me the name of the Alice in chains song at 4.13?

  • @Daniel671ful it's not alice in chains man...

  • @Daniel671ful it's mad season "i don't know anything"...

  • @Daniel671ful I'ts "I Dont Know Anything", by Mad Season. this side project band Layne was in

  • what's the name of the pearl jam song at the star?

  • @theflyingsamuraii Animal. If you still wanted to know.

  • cant help hating foo fighters , dont even know why

  • every now and then there are music revolution I just hope to be witness of such revolution I remebered back in the 90's all nirvana look alike I remember like at the very end of the nineties some media labeled puddle of mud as the next nirvana... It's incredible how media takes advantage I guess music is killed when it is made for the only sole porpuse of money making and music takes a second place

  • @GHEE4345 I FUCKING LOVE YOU.

  • Foo Fighter aren't power pop!

  • 1:35 update: In case you don't know, hes dead (layne).

  • we play grunge acoustic.i know nobody cares :)

  • @Wolvereyne Really cool songs!! distorded grunge is better though

  • I enjoyed this documentary. I'm going to check out Hype! but I just thought this documentary was pretty neat. I already knew Mudhoney, Melvins, and all the other bands associated with the grunge revolution but it was cool learning how things started out. I think everyone, at least in the "Grunge" factor learned a lesson and took the music back to where it should be, the underground. I sure hope one day, a music revolution will happen again.

  • This was the music that shaped me, and I love it forever.

  • Behind bars??! Why Isn't she fucking DEAD!

  • Why isnt courtney behind bars???

  • when was this grunge special?

  • grunge isnt dead....wait till my band breaks out onto the scene and kicks Justin Bieber off the no.1 spot

  • @TheRealSonicYouth When that happens, I'll definitely want to hear you guys and go "Finally, grunge is back!" And yeah, knock Bieber and the Jonas Brothers down a peg.

  • @Kaicoyote haha sweet man we'll make sure that no one even remembers them

  • @TheRealSonicYouth Fuck yeah

  • Is there any more to this? It seems to be cut off.

  • this was made before layne died

  • @Element4078 damn I noticed that. Just listen at 1:51. He had to be alive still.

  • We need a music revolution now more the ever

  • bush was an awesome band

    was

  • im glad grunge is back, back in garage wer they use to be..:D

  • We didnt kill grunge.....THE FUCKIN MEDIA DID

  • @kdub0911 They did and then some.

  • r.i.p Cobain

    r.i.p Stanley

    r.i.p Nirvana

  • @pathetickian i mean Staley sorry Layne

  • @pathetickian rip mike starr

  • not a grunge song half of pearl jams known songs werned grunge

  • im surprised no one is saying the melvins should be more famous. They have been together for a long time and they were one of the first 6 grunge bands and they are still making some of the best music today they are a band that should be remembered forever just like layne and cobain

  • @pivot1022 Yup the Melvins along with Mudhoney are probably the 2 bands that deserve recognition more than anyone else

  • @LongviewGD182 yeah i know 1 person in my highschool who knows of the melvins and mudhoney and no one else do when alot of their songs are in many ways better then nirvana.

  • alice aint grunge.... Alice is fuckink Metal ..... they deserve more thn they have earned

  • @sandblastedXIII

lol What is grunge? Can you define it?

"they deserve more than they have earned" - Wut?

They've sold over 35 million records worldwide while Pantera, being recognized as one of the better metal acts of the '90s sold barely 10 million in total. What else do they deserve?

  • @dopesickhurts more than nirvana !!! take it ez buddy.

  • @MOOJMIP

    Screw Lou Barlow?

    Silverchair Rules?

    @joshBoyy1 FUCK YEAH BUSH?

ha ha ha just wanted to highlight your comments.

  • RIP Layne

  • grunge died after soundgarden split because they were the last of the big 4 still creating very high quality music.

  • even though bush is basically unoriginal and post-grunge; sixteen stone is actually a quality album.

  • @conspicuousjim I really like Bush, they may not have been Grunge at all but I agree, Sixteen Stone was a good album and I did like Razorblade Suitcase as well.

  • nirvana...best grunge band ever....

  • Screw you Lou barlow silverchair rules

  • 1:52 was chilling, it almost brought a tear to my eye

  • Rearviewfuckingmirror!!!

  • FUCK YES!! BUSH!

  • song name that starts at 0:47 ??

  • Bush - Machine Head

  • They reall missed alot of other facts that built Grunge up.. They should have definately included Alice In Chains more... Just sayin' ..

  • Comment removed

  • courtney love is a fuckin WHORE

  • 1:54... how sad...

  • Alice > Nirvana > SoundGarden > Pearl Jam.....RIP Layne

  • @MATTHEWTHEINGRAM That's my order as well.

  • can someone explain me what did they say about soundgarden ? why they delivered the final blow?

  • @Grungyboy87

It was because they were the last of the big Seattle bands to break up. Well, apart from Pearl Jam who had changed a lot by that time and Alice in Chains who by 97 had just faded away.

  • courtney love is a piece of shit human being and a murderer. that is all. i can say more bad things about her than justin bieber.

  • Every time a sub-genre makes it big, MTV and the media exploit the grist of it until everyone grows weary and finds another form of music to devour. Even nu-metal was tolerable back in the mid 90's, before Korn and Limp Bizkit signed to major labels. For me, Grunge lost its momentum when post Grunge bands like Collective Soul and Live pussified it. Not that those bands are bad music, they just lack the raw feeling that the original Sub Pop groups have.

  • @nuclearknight01 This, I agree here. Even though I like Korn (early) and Limp Bizkit (Early) along with some Collective soul and Live, they didn't sound grunge in the slightest, just a tad grunge but I'm guessing they weren't really going for Grunge to begin with. But you're right, whenever MTV or the media finds music sub genre, they exploit to such a bad extent that it's not funny.

  • Good music died when kurts's brain hit the floor 2000-2010 meaningless music over hear were I'm at this tehcno music with these "rebels" that's Wat they call um dress in girls closeths and dance like retards deadmau5 can suck a electro dick

  • @theXoriginalXnac if thats the case grunge wanted to be dead ps im 14 stop embarassing us

  • @theXoriginalXnac if thats the case grunge wanted to be dead

  • soundgarden is back!

  • pearl jam isnt grunge. SORRY!

  • @Nietzchee thats what i say,but people always fight with me about that!

  • @Nietzchee Man Pearl Jam is definitely grunge. Half the band was in the scene longer than Nirvana.

  • @MrWiiPS360 pearl jam is grunge but saying that insults them like with every grunge band

  • grunge ended when creed came into the picture hahaha

  • @theXoriginalXnac is an idiot who is probably 15.....so called Grunge ended in 1997

  • sound delayed

  • @theXoriginalXnac ... LoL you are 14 , you werent even born then, Take the back seat kid and quit trying to tell it like you know what is going on.....

  • why isnt there any documentaries about layne staley... or jerry cantrell

  • @Mikael909 there is one about layne staley. Search "alice in chains - much music special" there are two parts i think..and sorry i know this is kinda late

  • and what about the stone temple pilots ?

they are my favorites of the grunge

  • @biodra they played a song of theirs in the background once (i think the song was "down") but still. where were they.

  • you just made my life a hell of a lot easier. I thank you.

  • song at 2:46 ???!!

  • @sabelt5

    my wave - soundgarden

  • its sad to see this interview and know at the time this was taped layne was just about to die and no one could save him. one of the biggest losses to humanity.

  • AT LEAST WE GOT THE FOO FIGHTERS WHICH KICK MAJOR ASS

  • grunge/90's music isnt dead. think about it

    2006 RHCP: Stadium Arcadium

2009 Stone Temple Pilots new album: Stone Temple Pilots

2009 Pearl Jam new album: Backspacer

2008 Alice in Chains new album: Black Gives Way to Blue

    2010 Soundgarden new album/single: Telephantism/Black Rain

may not be their BEST work ever, but hey? still making music?

if you dont like their new stuff, you're not a true fan. they've stayed to their roots, and they havnt changed their genre. long live grunge

  • @AIC2374 your an idiot. all those bands were good. but now there fucken shit as

  • @bbrraaddlleeyyrr yea ik i didnt say they were good, i just said at least theyre still making music. but they dont suck. wtf is wrong with you you're not a real fan then if you cant listen to their music

Dani California, Between the Lines, Check My Brain, Your Decision, Black Rain, Just Breathe, Amongst the Waves, and The Fixer. those are some alright songs

i'd rather listen to heir new music than "popular" music of today. and if you disagree with that, you are ABSOLUTELY a poser

  • Pearl Jam paved way to bands like dishwalla and the calling.

  • They were talking about Seattle based grunge bands, STP aren't from Seattle

  • You know what? They played a song by Stone temple pilots but they didn't mention them at all in this doc. Stone temple pilots is my second favorite band of the 90's behind ALIC E IN CHAINS.

  • grunge died in 96' simply because 97 and on there was NO layne, wood, cobain and no good albums.

  • notes and rhythms sections going on 20+ years, its funny AIC can accomplish in 8-9 years what took Metallica to accomplish in 30+ years (metal gods my ass) lars ulrich=most overrated power drummer out there (hell I bet even layne staleys mediocre drum-skills were "AS" good as his, and then we have dave grohl who would make ulrichs head explode in a pw-drumming contest lol.

  • And also to add, nobody wants to listen to his problems=you dont want to listen to his problems (cause incase you haven't noticed majority and i do mean 99% of the populous that enjoyed that era of music or style, enjoyed AIC immensely, name to me another band during that period of ERA/DECADE PERIOD that put on as good as a live show, had as natural-flowing HARMONIES/vocal range, and put out hit track after hit track, lol - I bet you can't and dont say U2 or Metallica, they have been using the

  • @Itzsfo0 Pearl Jam put on as good/better live show than alice in chains. Plus anyone on here can look it up Ten outsold Nevermind. Pearl Jam forever! they are the only ones standing today that Havent previously broke up/ delt with drug additcion/ lost a member.

  • bad to happen to you, but no simply you just cease to exist, as well as your opinions, sure everyones entitled to their own opinion, but why even post something so pathetic, im sure your some sort of football-enthusiast, who loves the idea of corporate american and you probably like "limp bizkit" or "linkin park" and considering them talented LOL fool.

  • his battles with addiction, lonelyness, anger, depression, loss, love-loss, love in general, acceptance, alienation (all the major themes that really encompassed that ENTIRE period of time and music) yet your (most likely) young/dumb/immature ass thinks that he was just "bitching" about being a drug-addict actually he made a career out of recording music that detailed (the above such topics) nothing wrong with that AIC rules, anyone else that thinks different...no i dont hate you or wish anythin

  • yea AIC was by far the most talented (technically speaking) rhythm sections, beautiful compositions, layne staleys lyric-composition, his vocal range, his grunt-to-scowl-scream style, nothing compares to them (plus jerry cantrells licks) and AIC had 2 - great bassist's in their career and outlasted some of the other several famed-grunge bands, layne staley bitched about being a junkie? I dont know who wrote this line down below, but you must be the biggest fucking retard, HE TALKED about

  • Grunge survives in us minority, Grunge is back where it belongs, with the minimal.

  • @TaffTalk best comment

  • @TaffTalk so grunge shouldnt be heard?

  • @TaffTalk yeah dude i agree Grunge is back too what it was all about, being underground

  • @TaffTalk Well said bro.

  • @TaffTalk damn never thought of it like that :)

  • @TaffTalk Yeah, that's what i always thought, and I was only born in the 90's, though it was cool that finally the mainstream had good music in it

  • @TaffTalk grunge doesn't belong with the minimalist. Didn't you hear soundgarden say they worked hard to get where they were at? They wanted to reach the widest audience they could. Cobain wanted to prove to all of those jackasses that made fun him when he was little wrong.

  • Yep, i agree. Alice is the best band of the last 20 years IMO.

  • there are some many great bands in this documentary. but for me alice in chains is the best. layne was so brilliant! i wish he was here to keep music from goin downhill....

  • @bigboss25262 Thank you

  • And suddenly KORN BECOMES POPULAR

I'd like to see a documentary on the Korn/Deftones era.

  • The roller coaster ride is about to begin XD Mark Arm is so awesome!!!

  • I wonder why they didn't mention Temple of the Dog and Mad Season.

  • Lane was up to no good.

  • the complexities of human emotion and media speculation was personified in Grunge. An inevitable tragedy........

  • It's funny, on 1:55 when that guy says " I don't know what he's doing now, but probably up to no good". Ironic, Layne died that same year.

  • how grunge died when kurt did, reminds me about how tejano died when SELENA DIED RIP

  • a grunge special without mentioning TEMPLE OF THE DOG ???
