i have the 2g unlocked iphone and i have unlocked on my own before and now i have firmware 3.1 and i did what u just did in the video but i got error 1602 and when i enter into dfu mode i have this pic of usb to itunes is this the coorect mode? or iam doing it wrong?. i did as u told me, the process of getting into dfu mode. pls help!!!!

There is more than one way to go into dfu mode the way i did it your screen should just be black, did you download the correct firmware ?

I got "The iphone could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible." I have the right firmware. I have 3.0.1 and used redsnow to jail break my phone. And I'd like to upgrade to 3.1. But every time i put it in DFU or restore mode, i get that same error. Every one seems to be jail breaking iphones the way your doing it. I have itunes 9.0 and i even tried it on itunes 8.2. Any suggestions?

Well if you are just going to jailbreak you can go ahead and do it this way it's very simple, just make sure you area using itunes 9 and you go into dfu mode properly.

no just make sure you are itunes 9 and make sure you are on 3.0 or 3.01 before updating to 3.1 , Sooo just to be specific you do not have to update to 3.1 through apples firmware update
