  • I'm from New Mexico (USA), and we don't have any pro sports teams or stadiums. Shea was the first pro stadium I ever saw in person (in 1988, when I was 13. A poster-size photo of me in front of it still hangs proudly on my bedroom wall), and where I saw my first pro baseball game (4 years later-David Cone was the starting pitcher, and they were playing Ryne Sandberg and the Cubs). Watching these videos is sad. :) Citibank Field is ok, but not the same.

  • Shea was an icon.

    I miss it.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • shea had a bigger seating capacity than citi field and cost way less.

nice job money waising bitches, thanks for ruining shea!!!!

  • Got to go to my one and only pro sports game there in their last season at shea R.I.P to it

  • &$&%/%&%&·%&·$//%$·"$"·

  • awsome

  • The beatles played there before.

  • motherfuckersssss. I'm sorry but it's true and I hope my comments are not deleted. But the Beatles played there!. That stadium was a monument to the Beatles fans!

  • im a yankee fan but even that made me sad

  • Let's go mets

  • Comment removed

  • who cares at least yankee stadium is going to be a park, and shea is unfortunately A PARKING LOT!!!!!! METS SUCK

  • WHY THE HECK DID THEY HAVE TO TEAR THIS DOWN?!

Don't they realize, that place is like... legendary because of the Beatles, and stuff...

I hate people and their greed. Good going....

  • The Beatles......

  • kiero un pedacito deee ese estadiooo!!!!

  • eso realmente me hizo llorar... U.U ojalá y pronto se inventen las máquinas del tiempo.... poo...

  • noooooo!!!!!!! thats where bill buckner fuckep up and the mets won the 6th game of the world sereies against the red sox

  • NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That was a huge piece of my life. The Beatles were there!

  • no puede serrrrr!!!! como pudieron demoler ese lugaaaaaaar ...deonde tocaron LOS BEATLES!!! noooooooooooooo (me desmayo)

  • Nooooo :( the beatles played there

  • half of them are dead lol there supposta live FOREVER !!! THERE BEATLES !!

  • Fuck Citi Field. Shea was a shithole, but it was the Mets shithole. Kind of the same thing with Fenway Park. Its a total shithole Ive been there before and the whole place smells but Sox fans love it anyway so they keep it. They should have kept Yankee Stadium too...

  • The horror! I can't watch!

  • still think that the new stadium was not needed.

    ill miss that place.

  • how was the new staduim not needed it was a dump

  • R.I.P. i cant beleive they tore it down. the beatles played there. the biggset concert in the world was there.

  • Oh give me a break, Shea was a multipurpose cookie cutter stadium and you wanted them to keep it up for a HOF tour wtf? The Yankees should of never built a new stadium because they didn't need one, the Mets did need a new stadium though.

  • Jesus Christ. An exploding toilet.

  • why they Demolition it?

  • R.I.P SHEA STADIUM (SOB)

  • why didnt they just implode it

  • Are you serious? I knew they the Mets were playing in Citi Field now (which I still think should be called Shea), but I had no clue that they had down Shea down. I'm from Seattle, and I just went there for the first time last year, the same time the Mariners were there. I was at the game where the Seattle pitcher hit a grand slam. Kinda sad to see the stadium go.

  • R.I.P

  • NO! That's where the Beatles had a HUGE performance! And now it's gone!

  • @linkfan570 Just remember where the Beatles played their LAST performance. It's going to be gone in a few years and no one will be crying.

  • that was cool

  • i know it was time to get a new home but there were too much amazin memories still left behind. they should not of ever taken down the first home of the best team in the mlb!!!! SHEA STADIUM will always be in my heart....

  • their first home was the polo grounds actually dumbass

  • You are on some serious drugs if you think the Mets are the best team in MLB. They aren't even the best team in NYC.

  • i'm a yankee fan.but i have to admit this is sad:(

  • Don't worry, your old stadium is next :\

  • but that one will be more cruel

  • At least our old stadium was a historic venue, Shea was a shithole plain and simple.

  • i miss it dam it

  • If ever there was a need to change the Mets' fortunes, now is the time. Mets' nation would love to see a Met no-hitter this year, not to mention going deep in the post-season. Too bad the new stad. name conjures greedy bank scoundrels. . . I reiterate a previous comment: RIP Shea!

  • $17 on Stubhub? That's just because part of the deal was for the first couple of years both the Mets and Yankee organization agreed to keep the back row seats cheap and available. Once that obligation is over they all get bought up in blocks and a lot of corporations have bids in for those seats. Less seats will always mean higher prices and fewer available to the public. Not to mention that the scalpers will have a field day snatching up the available fewer tickets this year and jack the price

  • its kinda sad how the Mets didn't win there last game here, but hey, next year im predicting world serious with the Mets in it and winning the world serious in Citi Field!! Go Mets.

  • It's World SERIES not SERIOUS and the Mets are going to be nowhere near the playoffs this year.

  • shithole

  • Actually,I think I got a good deal @ Shiti Field.

Albeit worse seats but cheaper package.

  • Once your ass sits down in the WORST seat @ Citi Field

you'll be happy.I mean I loved Shea too but watching team after team get new parks!!C'mon Man! We deserve this!

  • Yeah, you deserve to pay five times the price for a ticket, like you will too. They didn't do this for you.

  • Go to stubhub and you can get tickets at citifield for as low as $17-$34 to sit in the promenade! so idk why ppl are complaining about tix prices for this season when they are as cheap as that!

  • Lifelong Mets fan but SHea was always a dump to me. My favorite dump. Saw Dave Kingman whack parked buses during batting practice, Saw Seaver, Orosco, Piazza. Shea was built with the working class man in mind, built for the Worlds Fair. Couldn't even name the new stadium after the man who brought the National League back to NY, they named it after a failing greedy bank. RIP SHEA!

  • this sucks. goddamn corporate greed over tradition

  • Dude, no one even liked Shea.

  • I knew plenty of ppl who liked Shea. I mean it's not as prestigious as Yankee Stadium but it still was a nice ballpark to watch a game. I had some good memories there. Citi Field is uglier than Shea but Shea woulda been ok if they gave it a modern architectual renovation.

  • badtown88, are you on some sort of foreign substance right now?

Us Met fans LOVED that place with a passion. Every moment was another memory that will remain in that stadium even after the site becomes a parking lot.

And to RonaldoMexicano, how could you think Citi is ugly?!?! It was designed to emulate Ebbets Field, one os the most storied parks in the history of the game. And when you see the interior, you'll be blown away.

  • I don't know what planet your on Every Met fan I know, including those in my own family HATE Shea with a passion.

  • C'mon man, it may have been a horrible place to play baseball, you seem to forget about the tradition and all of the memorable moments.

  • I'm not talking about what happened there, I'm talking about the building itself. After the Metrodome, or whatever they're calling it these days, it was probably the worst stadium in baseball.

  • Well, usually circular-hybrid stadiums and football stadiums converted for baseball use (Shea was a circular hybrid) are horribly suited for baseball.

  • Actually I don't think many players had problems

with playing at Shea.Look at Chipper Jones.

What Shea was was a horrible place to watch a BAD

game, more so when the Mets lost.

  • This is heartbreaking for me.

I will always love and miss this place.

  • TIMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went to games at Big Shea from 1966-2005 while living on LI and CT and have many, many fond memories.

But, time waits for no one, and the new ballpark will be great.

  • good memories..

  • i was about to cry.

  • after seeing citi field though it does make you get over the demolition of shea stadium alot easier

  • Great Stadium, many great games played there, but sometimes great stadiums become obsolete and progress has to be made.

  • damn son this shit is cool right here. still really sad, but i think i'm just starting to get over the sad feelings and im more excited for citi than i am sad for shea

  • It's sad to see her go down, but it's hard to feel sad long when you see whats standing next to it. Pumps me up for 09 season.

  • it wouldnt of been as sad if they imploded it and got it done it one shot

its so much sadder to see it go down peice by peice

  • ive been to this stadium so many times and im sad to see it go even though the mets need a new stadium and got a nice-looking new one

i went by it today and was sad to see it half gone

  • Sad, so Sad. But we must move on :(

  • How can there be so many collapses on one site? Two Septembers in a row and now this.

  • Bye Bye Shea

    Gone by not forgotten :(

  • omg its gone?!

i didnt know this was coming!!!

  • RIP

  • yankee fan?

  • I'm not saying it was aesthetically pleasing or anything of the sort, but you can't deny (for better or worse) that it is a piece of NY history.

  • Wow...that was pretty epic. I'm just glad I got to see a game there last year before it was torn down. Historic.

  • Ha - you must be thinking of Yankee Stadium. Shea has been a pock mark on the face of the earth for years. This is a glorious day.

  • very sad. also anyone notice after the smoke clears citi field comes in? sort of symbolic

  • I'm sad :( but hello citi field :D

  • i'll miss shea

  • COUGH COUGH COUGH - I wonder how much asbestos is in that dust!!!

  • Not much, it's all basically concrete & steel stripped down to nothing.

  • That was the first thing that popped into my head! It's awsome to see how quickly these guys are getting it down. They're really doing a great job.

  • Especially when you consider that there are only 10 or so guys on that worksite right now.

  • It was time for Shea to go, but it don't make seeing that any easier.

  • That entire section almost fell on the arm of the machine. It was very close.

Great piece of video Dan. Amazing and sad too.

  • Yeah you're right - that didn't look safe at all... I doubt he meant to do that

  • As you said Dan, right place right time. Way to go!

  • very sad

  • damn, that is depressing. It was right around that section somewhere in the Mezz. that I attended the '86 clincher game (exact seat unknown as the stub is packed away right now.) Thanks for the video, though.

  • That crane operator has big brass ones. That did not look safe - to pull such a tall structural section down at once.

As for missing Shea, you all know it was a dump. Met fans deserved a better stadium 20 years ago, and there it is, right in the background.

  • okayyyy...as if the pictures weren't horriffic enough...now I really want to commit suicide.
