@jorge325 heh partially agreed , but the real lesson here is : DON'T BUY CRAP!
Buy American ( or whichever you may be located in .) but never entrust ANYTHING let alone your safety , life and well being to cheap crap imports form slave labor sweatshops in China.
It's "cheap" for a reason....and in this case it came back to bite that salesman in the arse.
@reignick1133 China mass produces a lot of crap, but pretty much all good quality production katanas (by Hanwei, Cheness, Ronin Katana, etc) are all made in China. It all depends on how good the forge is.
What can one do to ensure he doesn't buy a cheap ass Katana like this one that will break when hes choosing a decoration, home defense and zombie killing weapon? What are some good brands and what kind of smiting and steel is decent?
Anyone know what actually happened to this guy? By the way as if it's his fault the blade hilt snapped, you're not being paid to sell a product by calling it shit. You can already tell this guy was like, wow what a hunk of shit. He just had to sell it. He didn't make the damn thing.
@dreamcastboy1 lol, this thing didn't even pierce his darn skin, it pretty much just poked him in the chest :/ also, it wasn't the hilt that snapped, it snapped clean in half lmfao which is even worse than the hilt breaking
And this is why smart people spend a few hundred bucks or more on quality-made edged weapons, as compared to $44.95 for a whole set of cheap, flimsy pseudoswords.
BTW, if I heard correctly, the guy was injured pretty painfully - took some stitches to close the hole - but not badly, and thus recovered.
@TheShinygami9230 Well, of course that'd be the -ultimate-, but for most folks anything in the mid-level Hanwei grade or better would be near-heirloom quality. Personally I'd love to be able to hammer-forge my own edged weaponry, but I don't have access to the equipment that calls for.
I love this show, directv channel 227 it's called cutlery corner and Odell runs it. Hilarious to here is voice. Watch my remake of this, almost the same
@jpmac098 that's cool. I got a full tang Miyamoto Musashi replica from Musashi Swords for my bf for Valentine's day this year. He practices with it too - and I have to sit far away from that. Don't want to get chopped! lol. Where'd you get yours from?
@Me102288 thats why... NO sword is meant to be banged on a table. now granted my musashi shouldn't break if i hit it like that, but im not intending to do that to it.
@automotiveDIY dousn't matter with any true samurai sword. I'm not talking about the manufactured ones. I'm talking about the ones folded over 1000 times. Thats poured carbon, I don't know why you'de even sharpen an ornament in the first place though. But I bet this doofus would hurt himself bang'in a sharp pencil against something lol
@adam111693 look it up on the net, they were really expensive, think I seen them offered in Cabela's like 20 years ago. Typical types were measured in how many inch of bamboo pole it could cut through (obvious in the hands of someboby more experience the the commercial guy lol) the ons I remember would cut through a 8" thick pole, Cant break them by hand, but I'm sure they can be broken with a few tons on them :-)
@Me102288 Ok thanks I will look that up. traditionally a katana was made of tamehagene and wasn't considered ready untill it could cut through at least 1 human body clean, but there were katanas that could cut through as many as 5 bodies. Even katanas that were nihonto (authentic Japanese katanas) would break from time to time but to my knowledge it wasn't very often that they would break very often.
@adam111693 Iron 95.22% to 98.12% ,Carbon 0.10% to 3.00% ,Copper 1.54% ,Manganese 0.11% Tungsten 0.05% ,Molybdenum 0.04% ,Titanium 0.02% ,Silicon = whats in "tamehagene" I think the english translation is close to what we'd call spring steel. it absorbs shock and the more "layers" folded into it the stronger ther sword. simple process, lol very skilled art. the traditional samurai sword I seen on discory said it had 65000 layers.. lol 6250 folds wow.
@Me102288 If I'm not mistaking I think the katana was folded 10-15 times. The was it got all the layers was because the steel would double in layers every time it was folded. 1024 if folded 10 times, 2048 if folded 11 times, 4096 if folded 12 times, 8192 if folded 13 times, 16384 if folded 14 times, 32768 if folded 15 times.
@adam111693 a soldiers yes but 2 layers a fold.. fold 1 = 2 layers, fold 2 = 4 layers.. thats why I said they were folded 100's, if not 1000's of times, depending on the maker. more folds = stronger the sword, to a point I guess. 65000 layers is lol because my arms fall off at 4000 ish... lol
thows sword r so poorly made even for replicas only a fool would buy one and use it if u want to get a sword for use then ask around yr locle sword shops there loads if u know where to look and even thow they may be for dec only the shop owner might no where u can get sword you can use for thinkg like kartate and other marshil arts

the nice thing about these practice katanas is that when you hit someone with them it will break apart causing further damage due to all the flying pieces!!!
bitch got what he deserved, just look at the sword, it's nothing more than sheet steel. it didn't even have a Blood-Groove (Fuller).

@recurveninja No ,just for the "its innapropriate to laugh at him ... nvm ,screw it" , its just pretty stupid and hypocrite , but eh .
yeah ,he got what he deserved.
I'd also like to point out katanas arent the best swords in history , they might be good ,but quite frankly ,its only the best by a slight factor, The myth that katanas are steel cutter , awesome killing machines is pretty silly , Just look at the european broadsword . Erp derp
@GreenSmugleaf i was on my ipod when i wrote that comment, i couldn't be bothered to edit it.
i know Katanas' arent the best, but Broadswords were made for weight, not sharpness. Katanas on the other hand, were made for sharpness, lightweight, and beheading horseback cavalry.
i don't believe one sword is better than another, but that different swords are made for different purposes.
and, to an extent, i've seen a Katana cut steel, not TEMPERED steel mind, just steel.
@krresselack: i dont know where u get your katanas, but real katanas are the most durable on earth. it is actually more durable than the european broad and long sword.
@raigami Uh no. Traditional tamahagane katanas may be harder and more wear resistant, but are more brittle and less tough than European swords. In fact, 'real' katanas perform more poorly in every aspect of blade performance than those made of modern carbon, and tool steel.
@RebelWrestler45: yes, of course when comparin with modern cardon and steel, but perhaps, i misread your earlier statement. if you compare katana and european broadsword in their time, is what i meant.
@raigami No, you read it correctly. Actually, the Celts had purer iron ore than the Japanese, and actually used pattern welding before the Japanese did. The Japanese just used differential heat treatment, and hardened their blades to a higher HRC than did the Europeans, making their blades more wear resistant, but less tough and ductile.
Stainless steel rubbish as usual! Only good for hanging on the wall or slicing carrots.
And how come they didn't stop the transmission? They just leave the camera rolling whilst everyone stands around with their mouths hanging open or something?
I actually own one of these. Cost me $10 and these guys are selling them for near $50.
I had it for a long while and never tried to use it. It is really cheap, but I have it for backyard protection, it should be disposable.
But after seeing this video, I put it to the test, and the sucker has gotten bend in different places and bent back. I've slammed it against trees, thrown it at targets copped some branches and it's "fine".
i feel sorry for the people who purchased it moments before haha.

But no cigar -.-
Seriously though:
This is why being a work drone is bad for your health.
Your boss might just one day hand you something to sell that you have
a) no working knowledge of and that
b) can injure you if misshandled.
And a freaking Katana definitely falls into this category.
(They are made to cut straight. If he hadn't slammed the FLAT side into the table it'd prolly been OK).
Oh - CHEAP Katanas especially.

katanas are the most strongest and subtle swords in the world, ever! so them swords he was selling were obv not of the correct make or material! xD
cr4zikid 1 year ago
Not really.... Katanas are really really sharp, But they break pretty easy.
Now if you want a strong sword that can take a beating get a long sword.
krresselack 1 year ago
@krresselack: i dont know where u get your katanas, but real katanas are the most durable on earth. it is actually more durable than the european broad and long sword.
raigami 1 year ago
@raigami Uh no. Traditional tamahagane katanas may be harder and more wear resistant, but are more brittle and less tough than European swords. In fact, 'real' katanas perform more poorly in every aspect of blade performance than those made of modern carbon, and tool steel.
RebelWrestler45 1 year ago
@RebelWrestler45: yes, of course when comparin with modern cardon and steel, but perhaps, i misread your earlier statement. if you compare katana and european broadsword in their time, is what i meant.
raigami 1 year ago
@raigami No, you read it correctly. Actually, the Celts had purer iron ore than the Japanese, and actually used pattern welding before the Japanese did. The Japanese just used differential heat treatment, and hardened their blades to a higher HRC than did the Europeans, making their blades more wear resistant, but less tough and ductile.

Stainless steel rubbish as usual! Only good for hanging on the wall or slicing carrots.
And how come they didn't stop the transmission? They just leave the camera rolling whilst everyone stands around with their mouths hanging open or something?
Not a very professional television channel!
