  • @zapwatt i think 150hp rating back then was on the flywheel big difference

  • cant watch this. so jealous. made me cry. i cried for you. they were love tears.

  • Beautiful car! What model / part number is on that turbo muffler? I Love the sound.

  • 134HP? That sounds like a really good net. If you figure the original 240Zs were supposed to make about 150HP gross then this 134HP net yield would equate to a mechanical loss of just over 10% and we know THAT didn't happen, so the logical assumption is that your gross is somewhere around 158-165ish. Better than factory.

  • i have the same rims :D lol

  • Ah, a pure example of a carbureted, turbo engine. I didn't know that was possible. I don't know a lot about how turbos are set up, is it difficult to put together?

  • This is not a turbo car. SU carbs but no turbo setup. Turbo setup on carbs on these cars/motors (the l24/6/8) are usually done with a 4 barrel intake and a blow through setup, very similar to what SBC guys do when they do a blow through setup.

  • My 71 Z sounds alot the same as yours, and my exhaust and muffler looks exactly the same. Was your car warmed up when you started it? Mine has that same lumpy idle when cold, and I have no idea what cam may be in it. What were your dyno numbers, they're pretty hard to read.

Could you tell any differences with that ZX distributor? I'm still running stock points.

  • Hey idk where you live but do you know ANYONE that could overhaul a Stock Carb for this exact vehicle?

  • Thanks for all the positive responses. I recently tuned the Z and found that the timing was off. It should make more power now that the timing is advanced.

  • Wow. What a beat nice work...

  • your zed looks and sounds sooo nice.good job

  • Bio, power to weight ratio is what matters. The original 240z only weighed 2300 pounds. Today's Mini Cooper is up to 2700+ by comparison. 170-300 hp, even at the crank, is a LOT for a car that is just a hair over 2000.

  • the funny thing is the engine tag for the l28 reads 170hp but the 280z is listed as 149hp and its less to the wheels. Regardless its how these cars are geared that make them quick. A lot of people don't realize that and just look to HP. For example a 92 Camry has 180hp and my friends Civic is above 200 and my 280zx is almost stock and beats both, not to mention its almost 30 years old

  • gotta love the pop of SU carbs......OLDSCHOOL is best!

  • It's called a performance cam.

  • That what cam do and I bet it fast them yours

  • Nice Job, keeping the legend alive, well done.

  • sounds nice on that dyno.

  • That's prolly 134 to the wheels, a tiny bit over stock...

  • Nice lope. Stock rating for the 2.4L is 151hp though, 'aint it? Well, thats one nice clean clean clean 240Z bro. Pretty sweet. I have a '70 240Z which is in need of some TLC these days. Yours is a beauty.

  • yah they make 151, but to the wheels its alot less...so 134 to the wheels is accualy pretty good

  • Nice Fairlady. Is that the original 2.4 and what cam did you use?

  • Not sure which cam the PO used. it has a very lopy idel though, and yes it is the Original motor.
