First destructive solar flare was recorded in 1859. Telegraph poles were on fire and telegraph network were down. After careful study, next event was already foreseen with 90% life wipe out but Scientists coded the actual date in Religious way to prevent people from panicking (late 19th century). Micheal the Archangel was the key where he defeated Satan and save the Earth from burning in Hell. 2012 - 1859 = 153.
Search 153 that relates "Micheal the Archangel" in Google. You'll be surprised.
seriously, what asshole recorded this with their cell phone held upright? don't people know to turn their phones sideways when careening through space and taking video? gosh.
I took this image into Photoshop and extrapolated the sun's radius from the curve we can see here, then scaled the resulting circle down 109x (the relative radii of the earth compared to the sun) to get the Earth's size.
To give you an idea of the scale you're seeing here, the ENTIRE EARTH fits well within JUST the white spot at the top of this image...let alone the rest of the flare.
It's just a damn shame it doesn't capture it in real time to really get a sense of it.
@inc2000glw - from nasa "The dramatic explosion was captured in ultraviolet light in the above time lapse video covering 90 minutes, where a new frame was taken every 24 seconds."
Is anyone else having issues viewing ANY video on Youtube? No matter what internet browser I'm using, I can't watch any videos on Youtube. They won't load. Every other part of Youtube works as usual. I was just watching videos an hour ago!
Haha, just wanted to see who would be retarded enough to take me seriously. You gentlemen, are the winners! Congratulations! Now why don't you jettison yourself in the outer space, maybe it will help you clear your head. :)
@ippuTV -i am only guessing. . .the area on the suns' surface that emitted the flare could be 3x the size of the earth, judging by the curvature of the sun shown in this image.
@archigenes "what sound does it make." Sound travels in waves like light or heat does, but unlike them, sound travels by making molecules vibrate. So, in order for sound to travel, there has to be something with molecules for it to travel through. On Earth, sound travels to your ears by vibrating air molecules. In deep space, the large empty areas between stars and planets, there are no molecules to vibrate. There is no sound in space.
The most profoundly stunning 17 seconds of video we on Earth could ever hope to witness- at a scale we are helpless to grasp. Thanks, and keep up the great work.
It looks more like colorant in moving water... so weird how it falls back onto the surface. You can almost see the magnetic fields nudging the filament's trajectories.
Great video,magnifico!!!!
