  • this is really beautiful, the fugue speed i really like, pity the video seems out of sync with the music

  • If you enjoy this video, have a look at: Well Tempered Joy

  • Great !!!

  • very outstanding performance.

  • Holy. The way she played that fugue....what a brilliant interpretation. I didn't think that type of clarity was possible, best version of this song I've heard.

  • YES! No one can hold a candle to Angela Hewitt when it comes to expressing counterpoint! I hope she lives really LOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooong so she can keep entertaining us with her playing!

  • a perfection of controlled joy

  • this is just so brilliant! angela hewitt plays the hell outta this piece! the fugue is just too much. so good

  • I don't like this shallow performance especially fuga

Richter and elena kuschnerova plays much better

  • Really is beautiful playing. I enjoy it for its attention to nuance and detail, and for her willingness to exploit the piano's miraculous expressive resources in service of Bach's music, which ultimately transcends any instrument.

I'm also a big fan of Tureck.

  • I have her disc from one of her live concert of the WTC last year.. she's an amazing performer! probaly the best ever

  • great performing

  • Wonderful. This is Bach - not some performer's ego interfering.

  • This is Bach ?! I thought it was Angela Hewitt ...

  • @Lavsimon - He was a fine-looking man.

  • @Lavsimon

yeah this is Bach, but without wig this time!

you see what happens, if you take it off...

  • @yourforte How sad it is to believe there is only one way to play any piece of music. Any rational person knows this only leads to sameness, which is regression. Enjoy the music. Aprreciate the difference, you may soon see that the difference is what makes experience richer when you listen to your favorite version.

  • like the fugue =P

  • nice performing of this prelude and fugue no. 16 from the WTC, the genius Bach present through the sweet touch of this lady interpreter, wonderful

  • hmm. so this is how it's written.

I have the score, but the only version that I have is the Glenn gould one, which is beautyful, but filled with ornaments. Congratulations, it's a very beautiful version

  • What a beautiful mind this lady possesses! This playing is so chaste, pure, perfectly controlled and absolutely sincere it's enough to take one's breath away.

I love too her elegant posture and tasteful appearance.

  • The absolute interpetation!

  • A good interpretation but it is music, there is no such thing as absolute.

  • @KindFurryBoy - well put indeed.

The absolute rendition is not existing whatever the soloist is...

We should listen to several great renditions showing different wievs and aspects of the same piece, and among them we'll obv. have a fav. one, but no way

we can reasonably talk about any

    absolute performance.

More, listening to various soloists will allow us to get closer and closer to the

composer 's message and to his feeling.

  • I think there is, and this a good example.

An interpretation that lacks nothing and to which nothing can be added, one that is just perfect.

There are always different opinions but Hewit manages to do her version of this sound so concrete.... Absolut, not final, but perfect in it's own way.

  • Quedo mudo ante tanta belleza, casi no puedo escribir.

    Gracias por estas joyas!!!!

    Cesar Amaro

  • absolutely mystical and magic

    superb!!

  • I just switched from Glenn Gould's performance... The Canadian Genius was different...brilliant and - perdone - metaphisical ... But this lady...is not much behind... quite perfect. And there's more elegance in her touch. Five star.
