  • the UNDERGROUND 80'S ARE BETTER THAN any music after 2011 period

  • why is the audio so low!

  • aww it's cool to see so many young kids into 80's music :) this one still makes me cry!!

  • Ya the 80's were great! Bloods and Crips killing each other, crack, AIDS,war in Central America, Reagan, two recessions, increase in homelessness,Rise in Moral Majority fundie Christian Conservativism, increased tension with Russia and out of control military spending, tax cuts for rich, releasing the mentally Ill onto the streets, and VALLEY GIRLS!!!!AHHHHHH!:O

  • @bunnybooties and we had the rubix cube

  • That band Young the Giant TOTALLY rip off the melody of this song on their song "cough syrup"

  • So many new bands... Ripping. This. Sound. Off.

  • rem when she did red dwarf

  • This must be Dave Lister's favorite video

  • @TrollingYourButt That comment deserves a Full Rimmer.

  • running away from furry!

  • This is now even more bittersweet with the passage of time.

  • I agree the 80's, so much fun, friends beach, parties great music. This band and Claire were carefree and something that is lost to the poor youth now...inocent and full of joy.

  • @nel21410mt Yeah, inocent, .. but in a sort of weird and quirky kinde of way. Not in a dull and bland way.

  • then 9 people should die

  • I could be happy when this song is played. It just a great pop classic.

  • 9 people aren't happy...plain and simple.

  • ive always found this song depressing. quite the opposite from the video

  • @MACHINEHEAD0009 and me

  • @MACHINEHEAD0009 Same here for some odd reason, maybe the lyrics!? People only here the happy and be happy

  • Thank god they don't exist any more

  • "I go to Skye on my holideeh" Love it

I still play their records, especially the long version of this song and play them to my kids

    She was also Gregory's Girl

  • I'm in love with Clare Grogan

  • Jesus christ! I haven't seen this vid since the old MTV years. lol

  • wish this video had louder audio...

  • i love you 80's please come back. I never saw you in person, i'm just 15.

  • @messimartino I was born in the tail end of the 80's.. But I can proudly say I was born in that great time! I too hope for its return!

  • @Voivrenetwork "Tail end" of the 80s had little in common with the earlier end and the New Wave era.

  • @xreddragonx You are missing my point.. I am glad to have been born in the 80's, despite it being close to the end.

  • @messimartino I don't think it's particularly interested in you.

  • @messimartino They're still here. Time never ends. If you don't believe me, come to San Francisco where there are more 80s clubs than you can shake a stick at. The 80s are alive ansd well.

  • @McSpacerson Yes...the 80's are alive and well in the city. I've been to the 80's dance at Mighty....and looking forward to the Depeche Mode night on Dec 2nd....can't wait. There is also a restaurant/club in Bellflower in Los Angeles that is 80's every single day.

  • Man, I like her. But that video is just awful...and what is with the lion?!? That's not happy..that's some dumbass director forcing the band to act out some equally dumbass idea he had.

  • Ahh!! happy days.

  • i COUld be. but im not.. whats my problem. if they were me.. they might be happy. i could be happy . i cant figure this out. if they were me, and i was you..

  • she should be a judge on the sing-off

  • I was so hopelessly in love with Clare Grogan when I was 12.

  • Still got Goth though, just about. But very few school age kids would be brave enough to dress up like Alice Cooper or Siouxie Soux in what is now the afrocentric inner cities.

  • @rubysson57 But, why would any kid want to dress up the same way as some old white dude?!?

  • Yes, the white section of the population werent being taught to hate themselves back then or having anti racism and diversity love pills shoved down their throats at every corner. The result was a joyful and hedonistic self expresssion that wasnt hurting anybody else.Nor do I ever recall these new wave glamsters ever playing with guns or knives. I dont know when it really started going rotten but the new age of multiculturalism certainly has a lot to answer for.

  • @rubysson57 Well, could it be the accesability of the computer that allows nearly anyone, with the knowledge, to assemble their own band and market themselves to the populace that might have the same criteria? So, an impressionable age group might just respond to seemingly provocative 'artists'? Which might explain the degradation in music in all genres.

  • You could actually see why dave lister liked original Kochanski. Damn she dances like a loon though.

  • I MISS THE 80'S

  • You know, now that you mention it, I could be happy

  • What a haircut - could only be the 80s.

  • She's so hot. Great song and band. Why don't/can't they make great pop music like this anymore? Pity.

  • isnt she the one out of absolutly fabulous with jeniffer saunders and johanna lumley? as sure looks like her...the charicter bubbles lol

  • @rose6921 bubble (no s,never never never an s) is plaid by the wonderfully scrumptious jane harrocks who you can see in little voice,if memory serves)claires only acting role was as susan in gregorys girl...

  • @dobbsiancant Clare did continue to act for quite a number of years but under the name C P Grogan, notably as the original version of Lister's girlfriend in Red Dwarf but quite a bit else besides.

  • Aaah the day long dead, B 4 American & Europe were destroyed by the 3'rd world flood =)

  • like a mix of Madonna and U2

  • @clarkbell Sounds nothing at all like either of THEM!

  • ahhh she could have been Kylie.

  • oh look, its kechansky from red dwarf

  • Hey YouTube, the more you promote your corporate slave masters, BP, we will immediately log off. You're not in control. We are.

  • I could be happy stretching this babe...

  • Best voice of the 80's I could ever have hoped for. I had the biggest crush on her. I keep my Vinyl collection WELL protected. I even have doubles.

    THE 80'S----We Shall Never Forget!!!!!!!!!

  • claire Grogan was one of my first crushes she still well cute now though shame she left red dwarf

  • ahhh my quintessential nonsense 80's how every song is liketh sunday

  • I saw Clare at the Rewind festival yesterday at Henley she looked amazing and was as bubbly as ever. A total babe.

  • Clair Grogan the only person I could ever watch East Enders for

  • @tebb1t

Is she in East Enders now? (I don't live in the UK any more). Her acting in Red dwarf was possibly the worst acting I've ever seen.

  • @boydegg I don't think so I'm not working in Blighty at the moment either.

  • Did not realize just how hot Clair was, she was a beauty!

  • i so had the hots for Miss Grogan at the time,

  • so hotty.... my love..

  • i wish i was around in the 80s.

  • When she sings "I would like to climb high in a tree" it reminds me of one of Michael Jacksons favorite things to do. Sort of makes me sad for him. I wish that where ever M.J. is now that he's happy.

  • This video is the quentisential (sp?) 80's video...please advise on how to spell quentisential or call me a dumbass, whatever

  • @killerbacteria1" "quintessential" Dang close! and also the perfect word. Nicely done. :o)

  • Why aren't their songs played on 106.9 The Point?? D:

  • OMG!! I want 2:55 as a T-shirt so bad! :O

  • 80'S WERE THE BEST!

  • Absolutely delightful!! I remember this very well. It was one of those songs that progressive rock fans like me weren't "supposed" to like, but I adored it. Still do. An innocent and welcome breath of fresh air in what was a wonderful period for British pop.

  • i shit my nappy i shit my nappy

  • @TheBruzzy quality that will stick in my mind forever

  • *The* Manic Pixie Dream-Girl o' the '80s, no doubt about it.

  • there's an american commercial right now copying Altered Images

  • bonnie scotland, im at home at last.

  • I love the lion... it's so random.

  • great song, but, yes, sound and video quality are lacking majorly.

  • Shit sound quality and out of sync, dont post it if its shit you WANKER

  • And we think all these cloned skin and bones r&b "Divahs" are hot? Sexy? Unique. BULL! Give me Claire!

  • another great bass line

  • I love and adore the 80s, especially the great New Wave music. My favorite decade.

  • This must be the cutest song I have ever heard.

    Fun Times...

  • Great, but I preferred her hair in Gregory's Girl. Her management must have thought it was too Goth, and Siouxsie Sioux -like. Shame.

  • One of the best 80s songs in my opinion.

  • What a gorgeous pixie she was - anyone remember Gregory's Girl?

You look at the 80s now and think 'wow, that looked bad' but I'd love to go back and visit. Just for a day lol

  • @trooperJac People who think the 80's looked bad are apparently under the illusion that things look great now!

  • AAAAAhhhhh - brings back such fond memories!!

  • Is that the Lion from the Banana Splits?

  • whats up with the lion??

  • Ah! The 80s. Welcome back to those care free days. Beatiful synthezized & guitar music.. Great fashions. Clear cut. Lots of colour. (possibly best fashions, certainly most interesting hairstyles) Rubix cubes, Logo T-shirts. The 'beatutiful decade'. It was. Yuppies. Still big and chunky mobile phones (owned by rich businees people). There was a certain kind of optimism having left the 'sorded' 70s. So much was to happen in this decade too, music and politicaly speaking, just like in the 60s

  • @Regalseven Well said, well said.

  • Well said Regal7!

  • @regalseven - there was anger (its easy to find 80s hardcore videos), but still a lot of this joie d' vivre that is missing nowadays. youd be committed nowadays if you ran around singing a song like this. or mugged or shot.

people werent entirely cold and plastic - not to the extent they are today with their noses pressed into their personal communication devices.

  • @Regalseven meanwhile your parents lived in constant fear of nuclear annihilation

  • @Regalseven don't forget studio 54 and the powder people in their spandex....

  • @Regalseven Totalmente de acuerdo contigo. Al igual que los 60s los 80s trajeron muchos cambios en muchas áreas. El siglo XXI le debe a los 80s muchas cosas.

Totaly agree with you. Like 60s, 80s bring us many changes in all areas. XXI century doubt many things to 80s.

  • @Regalseven the 80's...so much fun!

  • @Regalseven Great post!!!

    i

  • @Regalseven the early 80s were good in music human leauge, soft cell, Madness, Gary Newman but the late 80s wernt all that the charts were dominated by stock atkin and waterman. But strangly as soon as 1990 came the whole vibe changed again Aceeeeid and "Madchester"

  • @Regalseven You're wearing rose coloured glasses. the 80s brought us Reagan-Thatcher, Joy Division, the Clash apocalypse and Whitney Houston. Cor Blimey.

  • @Beelzubub13 Actually, 1976 brought us Joy Division. 1980 ended them.

  • Thank you for posting this. I love Altered Images!

  • WHAT A CLASSIC SONG...1981 I BELIEVE ALL OVER AGAIN....I am very happy.

  • Happy 80's new wave. I love it. Vintage guitar tones too. :-)

  • Clare Grogan, the original & best Kristine Kochanski!

  • Clare - you didn't ought to have done it, baby.

  • @1lazybarsteward dae it noo !

  • @BaddaBigBoom done.............jobs a good un.

  • one of the guy is in texas

  • the bass player, Johnny McElhone

  • lol at the mascot from 0:59 to 1:14. looks like a skinny version of the world cup mascot. btw, i love altered images! :D

  • I love you Chrissy Kochanski!

  • hahha

  • @bumboyish awa an bile yer heid ya daft gowk

  • Thanks a lot for the new link...

  • wish the volume was much louder,,like the memories in my mind "back in the day"

  • This song is cool because it shows how we hide our feelings about love with activities and crazy things...the pain of loving is so big that better no see it

  • You get it. Thanks for your words. Sometimes it´s really important to HEAR the songs.

  • ahhhhh them were the days,,,school ,,no worries no money ,,but happy, then my dick grew ,,bills came and grew, and so on,,,ahhhhhhhhggg get me out of here take me back to long hot summer days ,,chopper and tomahawk bikes, bag of chips cut knees dens ice berg pops and rather big head teachers

  • you and me both 45 now still with my head in the clouds still miss my chopper and yes i did break my handelbars lol

  • lol priceless hey mate

  • WHAT ADVERT WAS THAT FROM?

  • We were all "cute" in 80's ; now where just cynical bastards! lol!

  • I mentioned in another post of this video that this group had a fantastic ability to create great melodies. Their melodies were very catchy and very memorable. Sometimes, I hear a lot of AI in a band like The Strokes. Great clip and thanks for posting.

  • I got a gf that looks like that.

  • Had such a huge crush on Clare. Still do really.

  • The 1981 version, I agree

  • My bedroom was plastered um um with posters of this lassy back in the early 80s .she replaced Olivia Newton John ! My dad went mad i tell you he needed a scraper to get those posters of the wall (LOL) !!!

  • haven't heard this song in almost 30 years wow she is hot

  • Sounds like The Cure + Missing Persons :)

  • She was cute in Red Dwarf too. The '80's hair is coming back.

  • I Could Be Ha-pp-ie

    :(

    Love this, i think

    Run away far Away

  • pure mint thats all i can say xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Hang on, so there's a 2% chance that you got a Clare Grogan autograph from a woman that wasn't Clare Grogan?

  • I used to dance at school dances to this...

  • loved this band from their conception fancied clare since 1st sight am 98% sure i saw her on a tube train got a personalised signed pic am 1 happy man

  • Claire > Kylie forever love it !!!

  • Only a Scot could rhyme 'tree' with 'holiday'!

  • lol :)

  • @Houseof80s these guys are Scots? Must've gotten in a lotta fights man poor guys! Now I know what this song is about lol

  • Comment removed

  • She reminds me of Shirley Manson from Garbage!

  • Clare is the epitome of a New Wave babe.

    Wow.

  • they weren't reallllllly "new wave" tbh

  • me too :)

well young folks stole it more than a little if you ask me, they should really admit that

  • add me to that list

  • me too!

  • same here haha

  • I was looking up the video for Peter Bjorn & John's: Young Folks and someone had commented on how that song sounded like this song and I had to agree that there are a lot similarities! I do like both songs even though I've never heard of this song up until today! But I guess that's what the music industry has been doing for so many years which is biting off of each other! Or should I say artists that have been inspired by one another!

  • Haha thats why i ended up here too. From young folks to here.

  • i just watched something scary, and i thought this music video would cheer me up... but it didnt :(

  • ah i love thisssssssssssss :)

  • This song should count as one of the best New Wave hits of the early 80s

  • Before there was Shirley Manson there was Claire Grogan!

  • When I first heard this song, I thought it was by an 80s Korean band. (:

  • same!

  • Clair was hot!!!!! she still isn't too bad looking now!

  • Ah! The Scottish "Missing Persons." ;)

  • Alot of scottish bands have got that jangley guitair sound big country franz ferdinand and these .

  • the best of their singles...great song. stil...tough to watch. all that annoying cutsy new wave fashion is anathema to me.

  • its making a comeback too...notice all theese little fags on MTV dressing like its 1985?...This shits gonna be cool again for a while

  • I believe as a single this came out in the fall of '81? I could be wrong. Pinky Blue the album came out in 1982. The American version of the album had an extended remix of this song. Not sure about the UK version.

  • Us English call it the 'autumn'

  • What year was this?

  • about 82..roughly
